Steam event at Mount St. Helens visible at web cam link above. It was also shown on cable news earlier this morning.
SHe's rumblin bumblin stumblin.
Notice that you can now visibly see the uplift of the crater floor/dome area. Compare today's cam shot to pictures from when this event first started. The
I thought scientists were convinced it was going to blow within a 24 hour time frame last week. What happened?
Yes, a couple more months of this, and she'll be as tall as she used to be (minus any explosive eruptions, of course).
The fact that the Crater floor has uplifted of 300 ft since wednesday while quake activity has been sparodic at best indicates that the Magma that is rising and causing the upwelling is finding very little resistance.
As long as she keeps steaming as she is it is like a the lid of a pressure cooker. the interior is boiling, but the release valve is keeping the pressures in check.
If she stops steaming and quakes start up again, that will be an indication that the system is blocked up again, that will lead to another steam/ash eruptive event.
Scientists don't see anything that indicates anything near a 1980 level event though.
when she finally blows it'll be Bush's fault! LOL
Thanks for the update, commish.
Looks like a beautiful day in WA. If you go to this site you can look at previous pics. Put in 7:41am and you'll get a shot of the sunrise hitting the steam/smoke plume.

I remember back in 1980, the press made somewhat of a big deal about it, eveybody thought "this aint no big deal" it shook and grew for a couple months and then......seems like about the same as now, except there are many more Monday morning quarterbacks,,,,
We should encourage Republicans in Washington state to vote absentee. The aftermath of an eruption could hurt turnout.
There was a 7.1 off the coast of Nicaragua a couple days ago. That is a major earthquake in an approaching new moon. New moon on 12 Oct. If Mount St Helens is going to let go soon it might be then.
Place bump.

I see there is a new blanket of snow this morning as well, unless it's newly fallen ash. :)
