Oh, goodie. Gonzalez hasn't even warmed the A.G.'s chair yet, and he's already playing word games with the Constitution. Not a good sign.
I just love it when politicans bandy our God-given rights about like a 2-bit poker chip.

Attorney General nominee Alberto Gonzales told the Senate on Tuesday that he supports extending the expired federal assault weapons ban. Then to hell with this RINO.

" The debate has turned our way: we have passed CCW all over the place,..." Playing devil's advocate for a moment:
How does telling the government that we (likely) are carrying a concealed weapon work in our favor? Vermont carry would be a move toward freedom, not de facto registration via CCW.

Which I'll wager is not what Mr. Gonzales is doing. Absolutely correct, judging by his record in the Texas court.

Attorney General nominee Alberto Gonzales told the Senate on Tuesday that he supports extending the expired federal assault weapons ban. Gonzales also said he wants Congress to get rid of a requirement that would eliminate part of the Patriot Act this year, despite complaints that it is too intrusive. And yet Bush's legions will fawn all over this guy because Bush says he's a good guy.
Just like those fools Assa Hutchinson and Norm Mineta.

Tom can't do didily if Bush uses an Executive Order to enact a new AWB. That would be an extremely dangerous precedent for him to set.

Calm down. Politics. There is zero chance of Congress renewing it, which the president knows.
Disappointing, but acceptable under the circumstances.

Of course they will. I voted for Bush, but his second-term nominations have not been good.

we don't need another Dave Souter Left-wacko Molly Ivins grudgingly approves of the way Bush moderated the Texas courts. The Texas trial lawyers' association similarly approved.
It's hard to change the courts by changing the judges; it would be easier to change the court by modifying its jurisdiction, as congress has the power to do.

"There is no stomach for gun control legislation in Congress, nobody's even talking about gun control legislation, yet you continue to bait with one statement that Gonzales made in a throw-away line." You may have been right BEFORE the election. The shiite always hits the fan AFTER elections giving the great unwashed time to forget any transgression by the time the next election rolls around.

I would have just one wuestion for Mr. Gonzalez: Does the 2nd Amendment guarantee an individual RKBA or is it a "collective right"?

Exactly. -- We can only surmise that Bush & Gonzales discussed the AW controversy, -- and agreed that what Gonzales said today was still the Administrations position.

They are playing a dangerous political game, imo. A game where they can prohibit so-called assault weapons, without 'infringing' on our basic rights.
It won't work.

What you advocate is losing no matter how you try to spin it it or redefine it. Yes, winning with your mouth shut is losing and losing with your mouth fully engaged is winning in some people's surreal world, we have established that.
