A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar"... required reading... English Lit... high school. I hated it; it was boring; it happened a gazillion years ago. Yet, bits and pieces of Julius Caesar have remained *seared* (shades of kerry LOL) in my memory all this time - not the least of which are the words, "Et tu, Brute?", which Caesar uttered as he was being stabbed to death, when he noticed that his friend Brutus was among the assassins.
In Shakespeare's play, "Julius Caesar", a soothsayer tells Caesar to: "Beware the ides of March." The astrologer had warned Caesar days earlier that on the ides of March he would be in great danger and he should take every precaution for his safety.
Caesar, mindful of what might happen, had planned to heed the warning and stay home from the Senate on that day, but his "friend" Decimus (Albinus) Brutus (not Marcus Brutus) convinced him that the warning was foolish, so he decided to attend the meeting after all. On his way to the Senate, Caesar happened to meet up with the astrologer and informed him, "The Ides of March are come." The astrologer answered, "Yes, they are come, but they are not past."
Later that day - on March 15, 44 B.C.E - Caesar's enemies assassinated him, at the foot of Pompey's statue, in the Pompey theater, where the Roman Senate had held its meeting earlier.

Oddly enough, though English Literature - and Shakespeare in particular - was never one of my favorite subjects, I've never forgotten these lines from Shakespeare's "Macbeth" either (it's the only part I remember):
"Is this a dagger I see before me, The handle toward my hand? Come, let me clutch thee. I have thee not, and yet I see thee still...."
Don't ask me why! I STILL don't like Shakespeare! :)
Wishing all a Happy Tuesday

Ah, another sweet compliment from Miss Dolly. Thank you. :) I would say, why are you still up at this awful hour, but I see by the rest of your post that you're up because you're sick, doggone it. And I'd say you need some chicken soup, but it'd have to be without the chicken. :)
Take care, dear dolly. You're special to us.
I'm going to 'turn in' now. Hope you can get some sleep, too.

TITLE: Brush Up Your Shakespeare
[Kiss Me Kate]
The girls today in society go for classical poetry
So to win their hearts one must quote with ease
Aeschylus and Euripides
One must know Homer, and believe me, Beau
Sophocles, also Sappho-ho
Unless you know Shelley and Keats and Pope
Dainty Debbies will call you a dope
But the poet of them all
Who will start 'em simply ravin'
Is the poet people call
The Bard of Stratford on Avon
{Refrain}
Brush up your Shakespeare
Start quoting him now
Brush up your Shakespeare
And the women you will wow
Just declaim a few lines from Othella
And they'll think you're a hell of a fella
If your blonde won't respond when you flatter 'er
Tell her what Tony told Cleopatterer
If she fights when her clothes you are mussing
What are clothes? Much ado about nussing
Brush up your Shakespeare
And they'll all kow-tow
{Refrain}
With the wife of the British ambassida
Try a crack out of Troilus and Cressida
If she says she won't buy it or like it
Make her tike it, what's more As You Like It
If she says your behavior is heinous
Kick her right in the Coriolanus
Brush up your Shakespeare
And they'll all kow-tow
{Refrain}
If you can't be a ham and do Hamlet
They will not give a damn or a damlet
Just recite an occasional sonnet
And your lap'll have honey upon it
When your baby is pleading for pleasure
Let her sample your Measure for Measure
Brush up your Shakespeare
And they'll all kow-tow - Forsooth
And they'll all kow-tow
And they'll all kow-tow
{Refrain}
Better mention "The Merchant Of Venice"
When her sweet pound o' flesh you would menace
If her virtue, at first, she defends---well
Just remind her that "All's Well That Ends Well"
And if still she won't give you a bonus
You know what Venus got from Adonis
Brush up your Shakespeare
And they'll all kow-tow - Thinkst thou?
And they'll all kow-tow - Odds bodkins
And they'll all kow-tow
{Refrain}
If your goil is a Washington Heights dream
Treat the kid to "A Midsummer Night's Dream"
If she then wants an all-by-herself night
Let her rest ev'ry 'leventh or "Twelfth Night"
If because of your heat she gets huffy
Simply play on and "Lay on, Macduffy!"
Brush up your Shakespeare
And they'll all kow-tow - Forsooth
And they'll all kow-tow - Thinkst thou?
And they'll all kow-tow - We trou'
And they'll all kow-tow

Neighborly Love
Love your neighbor as yourself. -Matthew 22:39
The Carnegie Foundation discovered that to be successful on the job, relational skills are far more important than knowledge. Its research found that only 15 percent of a person's success is determined by job knowledge and technical skills. Eighty-five percent is determined by an individual's attitude and ability to relate to other people.
Scripture commands us to "be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you" (Ephesians 4:32). In fact, it tells us to love our "neighbor" as we love ourselves (Matthew 22:39). And a neighbor is not only someone who lives near us or works next to us, but anyone we meet on life's journey-especially those in need.
So having an attitude of courtesy, care, and concern for others is a basic spiritual principle. It is also the most important guideline for congenial and happy relationships. Indeed, it is even the golden key to vocational success.
Our purpose for modeling a Christlike spirit of neighborly love, though, is that we want to obey God, not just to achieve success at work. After all, our supreme vocation as believers is to embody and practice the neighbor-loving character of our Lord. -Vernon Grounds
Who measures how we've done in life
And judges our success?
Our God, who gives rewards to those
Who live in righteousness. -Branon
Those who love God will love their neighbor.

Beware the Ides of MarchI don't have time to "beware" anything!
Can you imagine how busy this time of the year is for Me?
Can you imagine how many corned beefs and cabbages I have to supervise being cooked by the 17th?
Can you imagine how many committees I have just decorating the eggs for Easter?
What if you were in charge of the Easter Parade?
And I have to find a bonnet!!
And you want me to beware!

Love it (((((Billie))))) - another outstanding and *timely* thread. Brought me back to centuries ago when I studied Shakespeare in HS. My teacher's name was Mr. Cannon ("Boom Boom" as we fondly referred to him) and he would become so animated and excited when discussing Shakespeare it was difficult not to be interested in it.
Have a wonderful day! Can't believe that March is half over (where is the time slipping away to?).
((((((HUGS))))))) to all at the Finest! :-)
