Pablo ran inside the house and brought back the best thing he had-a pinecone. He set it down in the same spot and ran off with the sheep. That toy lamb became his most cherished possession. The exchange brought home to him a profound yet simple fact: To know that you are cared for by someone is one of life's greatest gifts. "This small and mysterious exchange of gifts remained inside of me," he said, "deep and indestructible." Reading this story made me think of God's gift to you and me-His hand reaching out to us with His love that sent His Son Jesus to die for our sins. Salvation is the "deep and indestructible" gift of God, received by grace through faith. What should our response be to our God's infinite love and grace? Let's give Him in return our very best-our heart. -David Roper
Yet more and more of that great love of Thine; That day by day my heart may give to Thee A deeper love, and grow more constantly. -Mountain Jesus gave His all for us; are we giving our all for Him?

Town rallies to help renovate home of soldier who lost legs
Family has had share of hardship
JACKSON, MISS. - A National Guard soldier who lost both legs in an explosion in Iraq will return to a completely renovated home after being released from a military hospital, thanks to an outpouring of community support.
Spc. William E. Brooks of Southaven, a 23-year-old Mississippi State University student, lost both legs above the knee when a roadside bomb ripped through his Humvee on March 29.
Southaven-based Reeves Williams Builders planned to begin a free renovation of his familys aging home on Tuesday to make the house handicapped accessible.
"Its a very small thing for us to do for him," said Martha Fondren, Reeves Williams vice president. "We could never repay him for what he has done for us."
Even before the explosion that injured Spc. Brooks and three other members of the Mississippi Army National Guards 155th Brigade Combat Team, the Brooks family had seen its share of hardships. Two years earlier, the soldiers father, Larry Brooks, was left partially disabled in a car accident.
The soldiers mother, Carolyn Brooks, a former algebra teacher at Southaven High School, now takes care of her husband full time and tutors students on the side to help the family get by.
When word spread about the familys struggles, and their enduring faith that they would persevere, the small community of about 28,000 people in north Mississippi rallied together.
"Eight or nine years have passed, but we knew each other for the brief time I lived in Southaven," wrote Beau Dorning. "Its not shocking to see the support you have from the hundreds of well-wishers, family and friends on this page. Youre a commodity to those around you and an awesome friend . . . you were even nice to the skinny new kid from California; me."
When Ms. Fondren heard Mrs. Brooks on a radio show discussing her sons situation, Ms. Fondren knew she wanted to help. She said she approached the owners of Reeves Williams and was given their full support.
"I got calls from everyone from electricians to roofers wanting to help," she said. "It really is an extreme makeover."
One man donated two portable storage units, and members of the Brookses church Trinity Baptist Church in Southaven emptied the house so construction could begin this week.
Ms. Fondren said she expects to complete the project in a few months before William Spc. Brooks is fitted with prosthetic legs and completes rehabilitation at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington.
We can never do enough to repay the sacrifices of those
who defend our values and principles, and America itself.
