VANITY: There's still a conservative solution to the filibuster sellout by the Gang of Fourteen
Vanity ^ | 5/24/2005 | LibertarianInExile

The three nominees that the RINOS allowed through are the most telegenic nominees, the ones that the Rats fear the most because they cannot make the 'Republicans are about being white' claim. Losing them as the faces of the filibuster is a complete sellout by the RINOS so that the Rats get their way and shut down the other appointees. They also keep the filibuster in place for the Supreme Court nominations to follow.

Those of you who miss the fact that this is really about p.r., and see this as a victory, are too busy celebrating minor battles won to realize the appointments situation is a WAR, and we can only win it if we fill ALL the vacancies with conservatives.

But I think I have a conservative solution to this issue.

We know who's going to vote to end the filibuster on Owen and Brown. The RINOS have made it clear they are 'with us' until the white male nominations come up.

And we know that we need the filibuster ended before the Supreme Court nominations come up. This is unlikely to happen when Rats claim nominee Whitey is a racist and RINOs back them up.

Here is the solution: some conservatives, as many as necessary to counteract the sellouts, need to vote FOR the filibuster, to make it a tie again on Owen or Brown's cloture vote. And then object when the chair starts the constitutional ball rolling. And then we go through the filibuster-breaking process, as previously stated, with the RINOS on record against Brown or Owen.

The sellout can't stand this way.

I'm not sure if I understand. What happens when they go on record?

I don't think the numbers would work.

Republicans have 55 in Senate and need at least 50 of those to vote out the filibuster (with VP Cheney's deciding vote), so I can not see the 6 RINOs voting to end the filibuster if it comes up for a vote tomorrow.

Right now, under their deal, the RINOS go on record as FOR the minority nominees.

If the filibuster continues on the Brown nomination or Owen nomination, the RINOs have to vote to back the rules change or face the fact that they voted AGAINST minority nominees in elections. And the Rats lose their p.r. opportunity to claim the filibuster is about stopping racist Whitey nominees later.

"I can not see the 6 RINOs voting to end the filibuster if it comes up for a vote tomorrow."

Maybe. But they would at least have to face that now instead of getting to weasel out of it with a white nominee the Rats painted as racists and the RINOs piled onto.

We must force the issue now, with a woman, if we ever want a male conservative judge confirmed without being slandered on the floor of the Senate. It's that simple.

The RINOs have no balls. This is a parliamentary trick. If the GOP wants to play hardball, they can still do it this way. If they don't, then I'm with you, brother.

This despicable sale out by the Republicans leaves me disgusted with anyone who supports it.We should have shoved this issue down the demorat's throat, just as the will do to us.

My support of the Republican Party depends upon the appointment of judges, more than any other issue.

Republican will not get another dime out of me until they show backbone and see to the appointment of the President's judicial nominees!

I like it. The RINO betrayl may still win in the end, but it will force McLoser to go on the record against Brown and Owen. Maybe that would be too much for the the Dem wannabes to stomach.

Ever hear of the Tariff of Abominations? These kind of cute tricks don't work.

We will get our judges and I'm betting that within about two weeks the Dems shut up entirely about the judges because they are getting creamed.

As a Pennsylvanian, I am offended that you left out Arlen Specter in a discussion of snakes and the appointment of judges. I resent the implication that McCain is a bigger snake than Arlen.

I might agree with your sentiments if they don't try turning the parliamentary trick on the RINOs, but until then I'll reserve judgment. The RINOs sold us out because the GOP has been dancing. If they skip this chance to play hardball, I'm through with them. I voted for Bush and Republicans to get a national defense that mattered and a conservative bench. I don't have the patience to hold Republicans feet to the fire for everything else they screw up, but they will stand up for a conservative judicial nominees or be booted out, as far as I'm concerned. There is no point to having RINOs in the party if they aren't with us on the most crucial issue in government, ending the judicial activists' reign of terror. And I won't back a 'conservative' party that doesn't care about standing up for the constitution 100%, especially when they have the soapbox to themselves as they do now.

It maybe late for me too, but that's not a bad idea. force the RINOs to stand up or sit down. Lindsey Graham, my senator ran as a conservative supporting the President, and I am highly disappointed in him. He lost my vote the next time around. Too bad for him the NY Times doesn't vote in SC, because that's who was wooing with his actions.

I agree it looks like Frist never had the votes, but the only Job McCain has ever got done is betray the constituancy he claims to represent. He didn't lose the republican primaries because of some push poll in SC, he lost because he doesn't stand for conservative principals. I mean there is a reason he was Kerry's top pick for VP. He is just so full of himself now, that he thinks all he has to do is lock up the mushy midle.

McCain is going nowhere in 08. I wouldn't vote for even if...make that unless his opponent was Hilary.

The RNC fundraising letters have been piling up waiting on this vote, they will now continue to gather dust.

The average gelding has more testicular virality then these self-serving media mad housemaids pretending to be Republican Senators.

I wish they had half the guts of either Giacomo or Afleet Alex today.

Giacomo didn't know he wasn't supposed to win. So he just ran and won the Derby
Afleet Alex was bumped by Scrappy T and went down on his knees. But he just jumped up and won the Preakness by 5 lengths.

The rinos don't even have the class of cheap maiden claimers in a 4k race.

I would write some more but since all I can think of would get me banned I think I will go and handicap wednesday race card.

Better to get rid of the filibuster now with Brown or Owen. Paying off one or two RINOs to get a Supreme Court nominee through is a lot easier than paying off a slew of `em.

I agree we'll win in the end, but I can't back a party that doesn't have the balls to try now. This is a way to do something NOW that will help us later.

I second that....not one more dime from me either. I wrote both my Missouri Senators and let them know I feel betrayed by the Republican Senate.
