11 FORMER AND CURRENT US AND UK GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES ISSUE LETTER
SUPPORTING DANISH WHISTLEBLOWER FRANK GREVIL

Frank Grevil’s press contact is: Tom Clark tclark@tiscali.dk
home (+45) 4444 1343
work (+45) 4452 6447
mobile (+45) 4095 0574 or (+45) 6062 1763

OPEN LETTER TO THE DANISH GOVERNMENT AND PUBLIC:

We, the undersigned citizens of the United States and the United Kingdom, have recently come to learn of the criminal proceedings against our Danish fellow truth-teller, Mr. Frank Grevil.

As his case has been presented to us, Mr. Grevil is formally being accused of leaking three classified “threat assessments” to a Danish newspaper in January/February 2004, in order to substantiate claims made verbatim to the same newspaper. These documents demonstrated that his employer at the time, the Danish Defense Intelligence Service, provided unbalanced intelligence on Iraqi weapons of mass destruction prior to the decision of the Danish Parliament to join the so-called "Coalition of the Willing" in March 2003. These documents also showed how the Service—due to its lack of sources—based its threat assessments almost entirely upon similar assessments provided by intelligence agencies in the United States and the United Kingdom, the content of which later turned out to be based on bad intelligence and in some cases even fabricated information.

We have learned that the Danish Parliament has recently taken actions to enhance parliamentary control over the intelligence service, which are clearly attributable to Mr. Grevil's revelations. This lends great credibility to his claims, which deserve in our opinion credit for serving the public interest rather than punishment.

What Mr. Grevil has undertaken reflects in many ways what we have done in our respective countries. With this letter, we want to draw attention to the important role that unauthorized truth-telling plays in a democratic state. In our experience, the proper chain of command often does not work to correct corruption, crimes, lies, cover-ups, or incompetence within state agencies. Disclosing documents without authorization is frequently the only way to expose these abuses or to substantiate verbal allegations about them to the press.

We strongly recommend reevaluating Mr. Grevil's case on the basis that his deed was done unselfishly and conscientiously, in order to strengthen democracy, and government transparency, and true national security.

SIGNATORIES

John H. Brown, Former Foreign Service Officer

Edward Costello, Former Special Agent (Counterintelligence), Federal Bureau of Investigation

Sibel Edmonds, Former Language Specialist, Federal Bureau of Investigation

Daniel Ellsberg, Former official, U.S. Departments of Defense and State

Katharine Gun, Former translator, GCHG, UK

Larry Johnson, Former Deputy Director for Anti-Terrorism Assistance, Transportation Security, and Special Operations, Department of State, Office of the Coordinator for Counter-Terrorism

Lt. Col. Karen Kwiatowski (karen@militaryweek.com), recently retired from service in the Pentagon’s Office of Near East planning

Ray McGovern, Former Analyst, Central Intelligence Agency

Coleen Rowley, Special Agent, Federal Bureau of Investigation.

(Clarification of Coleen Rowley's Signature: "I have signed this letter in support of Danish Major Frank Grevil in my personal capacity and not as a representative of the FBI. I wish to further clarify my view that the propriety of 'unauthorized disclosures,' such as the one Major Grevil made, is limited to only the narrowest of circumstances, to dire situations involving truly unlawful, unconstitutional or deceptive actions on the part of higher government officials entailing life and death consequences, for example, the My Lai massacre or the Abu Ghraib torture incidents. In less serious situations, I believe that the proper and most constructive way of bringing concerns and problems to light is through chain of command and other institutional mechanisms such as Inspector Generals.")

Philip G. Vargas, Ph.D., J.D., Former Director, Privacy & Confidentiality Study, Commission on Federal Paperwork

Ann Wright, Retired Army Reserve Colonel, Former Deputy Ambassador, Mongolia

Mark Steyn has written about this as well. As far as I know, the customs agent's instincts saved the day, with no help from Rowley, the FBI, or any other government agency.

Is she not the one who got the terrorist coming in at the Canada/US border to bomb LAX?

No, she had absolutely nothing to do with that. The so-called millenium bomber (sentenced to 22 years today, coincidentally) was stopped by an alert (female) customs agent at the border.

she may be the one who was nagging her superiors about Moussaoui's activities and the FBI rebuffed and ignored her .. and treated her shabbily

I wouldn't expend much energy on sympathizing with Crowley; the FBI was totally impotent regarding Islamic terrorists before 9/11, thanks to Congress, Clinton, Reno and Gorelick. Crowley managed to parlay the "noble whistleblower" routine into quite a gig. She's running for office as a Dem, or course.

I remember being stunned at Mueller's actions .. but that was the 9/10 mindset.

Considering Mueller started work as Director on 9/4/01, yeah, it was really, really 9/10.

Facts are our friends.

Gee, I just don't know what I would've done if you hadn't given me that insight. Read my post thoroughly .. I admitted I confused the two events in my fatigue.

Think about what they are doing. They are advocating that someone in Denmark violate Danish law. Maybe they can be extradited to Denmark. Suits me ;-)

"As far as I know, the customs agent's instincts saved the day, with no help from Rowley, the FBI, or any other government agency"

That's right. The catch did happen on Clinton's watch so IMHO he does have the right to share the credit....his problem is/was that he and his administration don't share the credit. Instead, they insinuate that their daily terror briefings are the reason Ressam was caught.

Democrats stoop to a new political low

snips:

There hasn't been much in the mainstream press about a Democrat-written document, "The Treason Memo," aptly named because it appears that Democrats seem willing to sacrifice both bipartisanship and national security in their attempt to use the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (SSCI) as a political weapon.

This memo is one of the unsolved political mysteries of 2003. Who drew up the plan for Democrats to abuse SSCI as a stealth weapon to undermine and discredit President George W. Bush and the U.S. war effort in Iraq hasn't been released, other than Vice Chairman of the committee, Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.), defending his staff and the outrageous document itself, calling it a "private memo that nobody saw expect me and the staff people that wrote it for me."

Senator Rockefeller has rebuffed calls from Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) who, after reading the memo, ordered an end to cooperation with Democrats on the Iraq investigation. He also wants the responsible staffers to be exposed.

It centered on duping the panel's Republican chairman, Pat Roberts, into approving probes that, in actuality, would just be fishing expeditions inside the State Department and Pentagon, and its authors hoped to dig up and hype "improper or questionable conduct by administration officials."

The committee would then release information during the course of the "investigation," with Democrats providing their "additional views" that would, among other things, castigate the Republicans for seeking to limit the scope of the inquiry. They would "manufacture and denounce" a cover-up where none existed.

They intended to drag the issue through the 2004 presidential campaign by creating an independent commission to investigate, according to the memo.

Fox News made the plan public on Nov. 6, 2003 and said the Democratic Committee members would launch the plan "when it becomes clear we have exhausted the opportunity to usefully collaborate with the majority." This plan wrecked more than two-and -one-half-decades of unique bi-partisanship on the SSCI, whose job is to oversee the CIA and the rest of the nation's intelligence services.

This all started when the Democrats demanded that the committee staff be split, instead of reporting directly to the chairman, it now is bifurcated, with Republicans reporting to the GOP chairman and Democrats working for the Democratic vice chairman.

Mellon has worked at the Department of Defense (DOD) and civilians there have complained about Mellon, as he tried to keep conservatives out of key Pentagon posts and to undermine (tough) anti-terrorism policies after 9/11. He has worked for the late liberal John Chafee (R-R.I.) and for George Tenet, a Democrat and CIA chief.

He was a former SSCI staffer under Clinton (you might know) when he went to work as a deputy to the assistant secretary of defense for C3I (Command, Control, Communications and Intelligence). There he held a civilian rank equivalent to a three-star general.

This gives a pretty good idea of the possible person behind this plan to highly abuse the SSCI committee.

Even revealing intelligence is part of their plan. No wonder those in the know feel this "dirty trick" is so close to treason

I had not thought to connect that memo to what we have seen transpire over the last few years.

Silly me.

I think there is almost certainly a connection. And the DNC (Soros, and other anti-Americans) are behind this clearly concerted effort.

I've been reviewing files I've had since 2003. I added "MEMOGATE" to the keywords entry of this thread.

and yes, I agree with you -- it's all connected and a concerted movement by the left. The "Rockefeller" memo.

RE: THE INTERNATIONAL BUSYBODY ASSOCIATION

Canada is full of them.

The USA draft dodgers and their left wing allies wield their money and influence in many many aspects of life in Canada.

And of course the Liberals and NDP (socialists) strident propaganda constantly accuses Conservative PM Harper of being a poodle to the Americans and President Bush.

Geez, I just read that Pres. Clinton is having his 60th birthday party in Toronto.

Perfect./s

I can only hope that The Clinton Curse holds and this event signals the downfall of Liberal control in the Toronto and Ontario governments.

The Canadian Conservatives have to fight a long hard battle to return their country to its former ideals of standing on guard for and carrying the torch of freedom.

Many many of the people that have worked tirelessly to swing Canadian politics to the far left are Americans.
