A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. She considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, but her father was a staunch Republican. One day she was challenging her father on his beliefs and his opposition to high taxes and welfare programs. He stopped her and asked how she was doing in school.
She answered that she had a 4.0 GPA, but it was really tough. She had to study all the time and never had time to go out and party. She didn't have time for a boyfriend and didn't really have many college friends because of spending all her time studying. On top of that, the part-time job her father insisted she keep left absolutely no time for anything else.
He asked, "How is your friend Mary?"
She replied that Mary was barely getting by. She had a 2.0 GPA, never studied, but was very popular on campus, didn't have a job, and went to all the parties. She was always complaining about not having any money, but didn't want to work. Why, she often didn't show up for classes because she was hung over.
Dad then asked his daughter why she didn't go to the Dean's office and request that 1.0 be taken off her 4.0 and given it to her friend who only had a 2.0. That way they would both have a respectable 3.0 GPA. Then, she could also give her friend half the money she'd earned from her job so that her friend would no longer be broke.
The daughter angrily fired back, "That wouldn't be fair. I worked really hard for my grades and money, and Mary just loafs. Why should her laziness and irresponsibility be rewarded with half of what I've worked for?"
The father slowly smiled and said, "Welcome to the Republican Party."
Definition of Liberal
Conservative who hasn't been mugged yet.
Excellent!
--"Welcome to the Republican Party."---
Well, to part of it, anyway.
Must be. Obviously every single person receiving any sort of government assistance is a lazy, worthless bum.
You need to talk to your liberal kids. Their heart is the right place, but they need the counsel of their parents to understand the world. It isn't easy overcoming the propaganda they get at school, but with time you can do it.
Revelations come at strange times and places, but one day you wake up and they get it. My son had a prof that was so liberal and abusive that he felt he had to defend the others..and found himself defending his own ideals.
No, of course not but the lesson is one of work and responsibility. It is NOT saying that everybody on "programs" is lazy. It is at root taking a shot at the communist idea of equal outcomes versus American style equal opportunity.
The otherwise "normal" ones subsequently grow up when they realize they must shoulder the costs of supporting free loaders who are the base of the democrat party......There is hope.
The kind of freeloaders you refer to may be somewhat of a problem. After welfare reform, it's hard to know. It seems like the worst problem is freeloading by the rich or fairly well to do through things like the recent Highway Bill and Energy Bill. Tax and spend and then tax and spend some more. The Republican Congress is almost as bad--maybe worse--than the Democrats. We need to hold these guys feet to the fire.
Every April 15, I am reminded of my annual mugging.
The one of the local Memphis news stations is running a series of stories about a welfare giveaway program. It seems the Federal Govt. has a program to pay the utility bills for those who qualify. People can get up to $500 for that purpose, but they supposedly have to prove that they are low-income, etc.
Every morning this week, people are lining up at a couple of sites in Memphis to get this money. It just so happens that one of the sites is across the street from a temp. employment agency. This agency is needing laborers and warehouse workers.
The news reporter has approched those in line for the handout and asked them if they want a job. Some on camera have said flatly, no. One young able-bodied man was interested and was taken to the employment agency. On camera, the agency person told the young man he could go to work almost immediatly. All he had to do was fill out an application and submit to a drug test. With camera rolling, he mumbled something, and then turned and walked quickly away.
Bottom line, almost no one over a two day period would take a job. They would rather stand in line for free money.
Democrates all want to hand out what republicans make.
That makes too much sense for liberals, they'll never understand it.
LBJ and his war on poverty...
