Hurricane Katrina, Live Thread, Part V
NHC - NOAA ^ | 28 August 2005 | NHC - NOAA

Posted on 08/28/2005 9:35:34 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico. Mandatory evacuation of New Orleans is finally underway. Louisiana officials are warning of complete failure to levy systems, and pleading with people to leave low lying areas. For those who choose to stay, they are recommending picks and axes for breaking through to access their roofs during flooding.

Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be rushing hurricane preparations to completion.

I'm not advising anyone - however, I suspect I am as qualified (or better stated - as unqualified) as you to make predictions:) This being said - just as I can't say it will, you are not in a position to say it won't.

the "NEVER MIND!" near miss to the east...

I haven't heard that, but even if that happens, it won't make a difference; the winds on the back side will push the lake water into NO.

From the old thread.....

No, not Algiers. Near and East of the Industrial Canal towards Chalmette.....the other side of the river from Algiers.

Mercy Hospital is where I was born. Hotel Dieu? See? That is "uptown!" :-)

How chilling.

yup , a teaching veterinarian once told me that the low barometric #'s trigger a primal instinct to get to higher ground,... even before the storm arrives

Anyone know the specs of the Super Dome. How much wind can the roof sustain? With Andrew F5's were in the hurricane. NO way that roof can sustain a F5.

The Dome is reinforced concrete; I don't know what the wind-specs are on it, but I would suspect that it'll survive. The catch is that the floor of the Dome is at street level. The floor of the Dome will flood in this storm.

I never liked crossing the Causeway for that very reason. If anything happens to the bridge, and you're in the middle of it, you've got an eleven mile swim in either direction.

My daughter is driving south on 75 between Brooksville and Tampa. She said she has passed so many utility trucks, water trucks and ambulances all heading north. They are probably heading for New Orleans. Americans racing to the aide of their fellow Americans that is what makes this country great. May God bless all those in harm's way and those who are there to help.

Thank you--I thought I recalled it being fabric or plastic when it was built (yes, I was living there at the time), but that was a long time ago and I might be remembering incorrectly.

It amazes me that the left

thinks that Pres is so powerful

that he can make a hurricane happen

to take the eyes off of the war....

what a bunch of nuts!!!! I told that

moonbat that the Pres is suppose to

make a comment when the lives of his people

are in jeopardy..something that his group

would never understand!!!

"Look for significant increases in gasoline, heating fuel, natural gas prices."

And don't look for the government to do anything about it (like, um, reduce some of their cut from each gallon...). :-<
