I was never offended....a little humour break is ok IMO. I'm sure some are just really tired and uptight (rightfully) because they are near the storm (or in it) or have friends/family involved.

Everyone needs to lighten up a little.

I went to bed last night KNOWING that New Orleans was going to be destroyed. That last minute jog and decrease of intensity appears to have saved it. If the levees hold for another couple of hours, which they probably will, the city will have escaped a death sentence.

It's not over yet, but I am so elated at the moment. I guess I now know what it must be like to be bi-polar, because I can't imagine a more significant mood swing in the past 12 hours.

You mean they HAD one??

Not really. But there were hedges in back of the end zone and many wide recieversa ran into them after scoring.

Trying to get this thread back on topic.

Looking at the Pensacola radar, the eye is now entirely on-land. The western half of the bottom part of Mississippi (not sure if it's a bootheel or panhandle or whatever) is getting raked - the eyewall is bright red.

Winds now look to be out of the west over northern Ponchatrain - which will push the surge out. Surge danger should drop off quickly now.

However, there is a nasty-looking band south of NO that will probably hit within an hour. The TV talking head idiots will convince folks that the worst is over, they'll start going outside and that band will hit with enough force to blow debris around.

Shut down to ride out the storm - too early to determine damage.

MSNBC just switched from Channel 16 in Jackson to their live feed (sans commercials).

The hole in the middle of the dome that was reported is in addition to the original two holes.

Jim Cantore changed his mind about bugging out yesterday. Hopefully, the residents of the Retirement Home were evacuated to a safe location prior to the storm.

I was watching those guys last night. My wife noticed that the reporter looked spooked, but the nurse was calm.

That's old masonry that fell, and the high rise behind it is still standing and wearing its skin.

Brick walls fail because mortar has no tensile strength.

.......

especially when they are weathered and over 50 to 100 year old brick buildings. Many of these historical buildings most likely haven't been tuck pointed(re-mortarted) over the years, left with gaps through the brick walls.

Unfortunately, many deaths occur after the bulk of the storm has already past.

Wow. I was watching that Jim Cantore this morning. They were pretty sure that they were completely safe. It has hit them hard and fast. They were so sure they were safe they didn't bother evacuating anyone from the Retirement home.

Does anyone know how to get current zoom shots of affected areas

Join the military, get into an intelligence unit, then after years of rising up through the ranks, perhaps you'll have access to a live satellite. :)
