WASHINGTON President Bush will hold a press conference on Tuesday in the Rose Garden at 10:30 a.m. EDT.
The issue that most likely will dominate the event is Bush's Monday pick of White House counsel Harriet Miers (search) for Supreme Court justice. If confirmed, Miers would take the place of retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor (search).

I honestly don't have a problem with what some would call "cronyism", if the person being nominated is qualified.
There's something to be said for knowing the person you're nominating; do we expect the President to nominate people he doesn't know to such an important post?
That's the $64,000 dollar question.
Rolling eyes, happy hour started early for you didn't it.
Will the Conservatives in the Senate vote for her?
Thought they would have a freebie "gotcha" question about the big spending. The MSM forgets Bush has an MBA. He's no slouch when it comes to economics, and I love it when he proves it.
Oh goodie, Bob Franken oldie goldie CNN reporter gets to ask a Plame question. Swatted down deftly by the prez.
You sound like you came to the wrong website. Arn't you suppose to be over at DU or moveon?
That's what they said about Abe Lincoln, Newt Gingrich, and Ronald Reagan (how many times were the words 'lightweight' thrown in with his name?) 'Less qualified' and 'not as intelligent' are two of the first knee-jerk canards thrown out at conservatives.
I still am not positive what I think about Miers, but correct me if I'm wrong, she was involved in the vetting process for each of these judges?
Seems Cheney started off as a sounding board for a hopeful President elect looking for a VP candidate. Seem to remember that after all the discussions that Bush asked Cheney if he wanted it. I will trust Bush (although a bit nervous about it) on his instincts.
He's got my support, but I will admit it gets shakier by the day.
Trust me Owl....lol....what a joke....who would have thought Bush would have nominated two folks that he would have to explain and defend to his base.
Incredible
The Dims are going to start thinking they've been had...you watch, Reid is going to start back tracking.
I give 50-50 odds Reid votes for Miers.
Reporters are so concerned about what the base thinks, yada, yada, yada.
LOL
When did the pressers jump ship to be VRWC and become their advocates?
Cronyism = Clintonism
There we had a sterling example.
LOL - Someone asked Bush if he is still a conservative. Hard to believe these people get paid to come up with the mind numbed questions.
Dane, lots of drunks on this morning. Don't worry, they will soon pass out.
You could be right; I just don't know enough about the importance of that to make a decision. One of the reasons I'm pretty neutral on this nomination.
I really do not recall all the uptight evaluations and fears about nominees in the years before we had all the 24/7 "news" networks and the Internet. Did it exist? Certainly not on this level.
Truth be told...most of us prolly still cared...but information was just not easiliy available about the nominees...we had to depend on the MSM, we don't anymore...and thats a good thing. I suppose most people (back in the day) solely relied on the notion that the political officers we elected would make informed and intelligent choices that were good for the justice system and good for the country. But anyway...people should care IMHO. These people have a great impact on our country. We should care. We need judges that interpret the law based on the Constitution...not "creating law" based on personal agendas and "buy offs"...like what we've had for the last 20-30 years...(Scalia and Thomas excepted)
Apparently there are some here who would rather let their minds be made up for them by Krystol and Coulter etc - it's the rock star mentality on the right.
For now, I am confident that Ms. Miers is the right choice.
I hate to correct your grammer, but conservative shuld not be plural in the context of your question :)
"Clinton who is touring the Gulf area today
He is? LOL!"
You should have heard the tone of voice on CNN - she sounded like this is the first time someone really important is visiting Louisiana after the hurricanes.
