IRAN: Bad Moon Rising (Vanity)
All living former Secretaries of State and Secretaries of Defense have been summoned to a meeting tomorrow (Friday, January 6, 2006). To the best of my knowledge this has never been done before.
Our current Secretary of State is on a whirlwind tour of our allies, but will (presumably) be back in time for this meeting.
Why? Why NOW? Is something up?
These facts are not in dispute:
1. The current leadership in Iran is religiously determined to exterminate Israel, and to spread Islam to all the world. They have expressly stated that Allah would be please if Israel were nuked, even if every Muslim capital were destroyed in retaliation. They are psychopathic.
2. We must take action VERY soon or Iran will have nukes.
3. Iran already has the almost certain ability to retaliate against the U.S., using unconventional weapons of mass destruction. (I also thought Saddam would retaliate against us. I hope I'm wrong about this too.)
1+2+3=Bad Moon Rising. Trouble on the Way.
The Iranian people do not support their insane government. But they have not been able to overthrow that government, and there is almost no chance that they will be able to do so in time.
The stakes could not be higher. An attack on Iran could throw the whole world into turmoil. No one can be sure how something like this will turn out. It could even be the trigger that starts a generalized war between Islam and those parts of the rest of the world that still have the will to fight.
And yet, if the U.S. does not eliminate the Iranian threat, Israel will HAVE to. It is a clear matter of national survival for them.
An attack by Israel is quite likely to spark general war in the middle east. Although it is fraught with peril, the less risky course is for the U.S. to do the job, not Israel.
The Democrats know action cannot be delayed much longer. And they are intensely opposed. Is it a coincidence that, right NOW, an all out attempt is being made by the media and the Democrat party to destroy the President and cripple our ability to fight the war on terror?
I believe President Bush knows all of this, and has the courage to do what is right in spite of the political consequences.
Side Note #1: The Howard Dean/Nancy Pelosi Democrats and their allies in the MSM and academia are certain to go even more berserk. I'm not sure we have the national unity we will need to overcome their intense hysteria. But if Iran responds with an attack on the U.S. with WMD's, the nation may come together in spite of the Democrats' screams that it's all Bush's fault.
Side Note #2: A major Muslim feast associated with the end of the Hajj is next week. The annual Hajj pilgrimage climaxes on Monday with the Eid al-Adha, a four-day feast. At least 2.5 million pilgrims are expected to be in Mecca.
An attack on Iran while millions of Muslims are on pilgrimage in Saudia Arabia could easily result in such unstable conditions in Saudia Arabia that the kingdom would fall. Hence I do not expect to see anything until the annual pilgrimage is over and the crowds have left Saudi Arabia.
No one will buy their oil because no one will have the fuel to deliver it anyway. Destruction of the oil fields is one of the worst scenarios imaginable. You can't even begin to realize the panic that could ensue if Saudi taps were shut off, or Iranian for that matter. What would China do? Russia? Every country for themselves? Imagine this clown in Iran holding the Saudi oil fields and a gun pointed at the head of Europe in the form of a nuclear weapon or two or three. What are you going to trade for Saudi Arabia? Rome? Paris? Berlin? London? What I don't think many people are appreciating is the fact that Mutually Assured Destruction does not apply here. They will sacrifice their own to destroy us. They DO NOT CARE.
You took the words right out of my mouth. This is exactly the scenario I envisioned.
Is it likely? I don't know. Is it possible? Absolutely. And I guarantee the Pentagon has war-gamed this over and over and over again. And frankly, I don't see how any of the outcomes are good if Iran has a nuclear weapon in its arsenal.
Bottom line: If Iran gets nukes we have big trouble. Exactly what they will choose to do I do not know, but you can bet the ranch they will do SOMETHING.
We really have no choice. We cannot let them get nukes. And it could get VERY ugly when we make our move.
still think our observations are funny
Interesting conversation we are having here.
I think Iran will attack Israel first, because they believe that will unify the Muslim world.
They are not afraid of Europe, because Europe is impotent.
They know that we have our own leftists problems here.
Just my opinion, but I am interested in what everyone else thinks here.
sorry we disagree
lets see, why would someone tell us the future? so we can prepare. why would someone give you a roadmap? to help you get to where you need to be. i doubt god wants us to collectively roast in nuclear hell. if he did, he would have allowed it to happen long ago.
god also had enemies as he pointed out. he talked of satan. others talked of the antichrist.... which I believe is the collective soul of islam. the ANTI Christ is personified in their actions.... and walks the earth with us.
guaranteed if we let them continue with their actions there will be a nuclear hell on earth
if god wanted us to collectively roast in hell he would have done it himself, along time ago (and we wouldn't be waiting for some 1,2,or3 thousand years) but he is not that kind of god.
but i believe he does have adversaries who would like to see a roaster of anthing realated to god or christ.
All that you say is true except for one problem. There is no reason at all for Iran to attack and try to destroy Saudi Arabia. That's why I think it is an autistic fantasy. Yes it could be done but it has no tie to the real world.
Exactly my point. To believe the US and the rest of the West by extension, would not retaliate and seize control of the situation is totally unrealistic. By launching at attack, Iran basically could take a giant leap into the abyss, but after that holds no cards at all.
We can clean up oil fields, as we showed in Kuwait, and since the whole world runs on oil, we will not be alone if Iran tries to derail the global economy. There may be an economic black hole out there somewhere, but this ain't it.
