Who is the Greatest Conservative Debater?
Posted on 01/17/2006 6:33:21 PM PST by Jungle Fever
Can't think of any that particularly impressed me, with the exception of a few quasi-conservatives. Who really knows how to shake up the rats?

I'd bet he was an honest lawyer. He's a psychiatrist by training.

I disagree with Buchanon, he has some skill speaking but not in the top tier of debaters.
Keyes is an excellent pure debater, but is too cold for my tastes.
I remember watching oxford society debates, and Buckley seemed to hold the floor there, but that is Oxford, they are kind of stuffy.
If I had to pick a person to debate on my side, with an audience deciding the winner, my choice would be:
Ben Stein.
Smart as a whip, but very personable.

Alan Keys.Met him once.He does have attitude but I give him credit for banging on a door at a meeting he was locked out of.He is the best and forget about the rest.

After I posted my list, I immediately thought of Charles K. as one I should have included. In addition to having been a lawyer, he was also a doctor (the physician type). He has great grasp of the issues and a lot of knowledge of many subjects which he artfully combines to generate cogent and reasonable conclusions. As interesting to listen to as he is to read. He also has an ability to flit away counter arguments with a single sentence (often dispatching the likes of Juan Williams with a crucial fact that obliterates liberal arguments with ease).

I thought he had a physical problem, but I did not want that discussion to interfere with my opinion of Charles as a very smart man.Notice how people who have to fight to overcome real hardship are usually not liberal.

Met him and he is very good.I have a quiet admiration of him.

I did not know Chrales' background. My opinion/assessment was based upon his knowledge and commnication skills.

Eddie Van Halen is unbelievably awesome! No, you aren't on that "greatest guitarist" thread anymore. This is the "greatest debater" thread. "Greatest guitarist" is down the hall to the left.

"...has to fight to control his stuttering."
This is the first I've heard that Krauthammer has a problem with stuttering. I've never noticed that. I'm wondering where you got this information.
Whether or not he does, I listen up when he speaks and appreciate his articles.

He's a psychiatrist by training. I did not know that. Now I think I know why he studies remarks from his sometimes out-of-control adversaries; and subsequently calmly responding. My wife and I like and respect Charles Krauthhammer a lot.

Not all blonde's are dumb. Probably the dumbest statement i have read on FR in a while. Agreed, my wife is a PhD, one daughter is a JD, the other has an MS, but is working on her PhD. Blonds all.
And granddaughter Miss V is blond too... Strawberry Blond, we think.

Although I don't listen to his radio show any more because he devotes hours and hours of air time showcasing liberals and radicals, Michael Medved is an excellent debater.....one of the best....with a deceptively calm equanimity as he draws his guests into a trap, and then snaps the trap shut.
However, Medved doesn't realize that his leftist guests don't give a damn about how good a debater their host is.....they just want the air time to get their evil messages out to the audience, and they do. They play along with him in order to do so.
Michael is a useful tool, a very nice one, of course, but still a dupe.......and an unthinking player and naif over his head in deadly propaganda games.
He hasn't yet awakened to the fact that liberals, radicals and traitors have to have their air hoses stepped on and life supports yanked. They cannot be allowed to regularly flourish over the airwaves.
Wake up, Medved, for crying out loud.
Does the canny Rush ever make these errors? Did you ever hear a RAT expounding at length on his show?
Short answer, "NO".

Notice how people who have to fight to overcome real hardship are usually not liberal.Yes. Charles is a Prince in my book.
BTW> My Mom had polio when she was carrying me and when I was born, she never blamed me.
Today??? We're seeing this "blame game" all over the USA.

I'm a big Krauthhammer fan. He has a great mind. Just chews up liberal arguments like they were nothing more than hot gas.
