(That probably wasn't necessary. But., you never know, a newbie might take me seriously.)
This is the paradox of the unborn. The Courts extend some protection in some circumstances, but not all the rights all the time.
I know in my home state of WI, some moms have been charged with damaging their children while they were still pregnant due to alcohol or drug abuse.
I find this very concept to be insanity, and nothing else. How anyone has the twisted mind to say that the unborn deserve to die is beyond all understanding.

Technically, there are no substantive cases, even for the mother's life. The baby can be born via C-section without general anesthesia and also without pain to the mother. Even for the mother with heart disease, they put them in bed and keep them off their feet until they come to the point that the child is fully viable. Rape, nor incest, is any reason for abortion as there are other ways to deal with this. While I would be more lenient with these cases, these children can be given up for adoption and the adoptive parents pay all expenses for the pre-natal care. This is the usual, anyway. Just over 1% of all abortions are performed for rape, incest, or mother's life being threatened. So, this is not a big factor. It has become the most convenient form of birth control available.

Abortion is murder. Murder is a sin. Murder-by-abortion is one sin which Jesus died on the cross for. Those murderers who come to Him by faith, believe in His death and resurrection, His atonement for that sin (and all sin, save one) are cleansed, redeemed, justified, and declared "righteous."
The stripes I deserved for aborting my own child fell on Jesus. The sin I committed came under God's judgment onto Christ Jesus at the cross. By His stripes I am healed. Every sin a man can commit has been covered by the blood of Jesus, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world (except one sin which is not forgivable, see Mark 3:29).
The apostle Paul was a murderer, and so were David and Moses. All these were reconciled to God and cleansed of their sins. They became New Creations.
Matthew 18 in context speaks of "little-ones-who-believe-in-Me" (See Matthew Henry's commentary). A baby in the womb cannot believe and cannot be made to stumble. A "little one" in Christ, however, a Newbie in the Faith, can be made to stumble, when confronted by a lie of the evil one which declares untruthfully that there are some sins that are worse than others--"God grades on a curve!" Satan says.
We will be judged for every careless word we have spoken (Matt. 12:35-37). We must guard our mouths very carefully (James 3).
Women who are in a crisis pregnancy need mercy, not judgment. God has shown us what He requires: "Act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God" (Micah 6:8). Women (and men) who have made the decision to abort a child or children may or may not some day be convicted by God's Holy Spirit--conviction is the job description of the Holy Spirit. He may speak through a member of Christ's Body. Amen! He speaks the truth in love, to lead the humble to Christ.
I speak as a woman who has murdered her own child by abortion and later received the conviction of that sin and the free offer of grace found in Christ's Sacrifice at the cross. I speak on behalf of those women (or men) who may be lurking over this thread, that they will know that there is forgiveness even for the sin of murder which is called abortion.
I did not escape the consequences of my action of abortion--I am to this day infertile and childless. Others have lost their lives. Some experience no physical side effects whatsoever. By God's grace I was spared to live and 10 years after the murder of my child came to Jesus Christ, the Savior, my Redeemer. He set me free of the eternal consequences for that sin and every sin, and He walks with me through the temporal consequences I currently face here on earth. He is my Refuge, my Friend, my Counselor, my very Life. His mercy may someday grant me a child, even a pregnancy if He so wills. I have heard such testimonies!

Indeed, ultrasound has shown the truth of the baby hidden in the womb to many women who had believed the lie that "it's just tissue." By the kindness and mercy of Christ demonstrated through His workers on the harvest field of the CPC ministry many women are coming not only to choose life for thier children, but to receive for themselves The Life, Jesus Christ.
Lord, raise up more workers!
I'm sickened by the idea of an abortion at all (being 9 weeks pregnant myself), but I don't know how a woman could live with herself after murdering a child she felt moving only a few hours before.
I am appalled beyond words, to say the least.
Why allow it in the first trimester?
I think it would be a good first step towards changing minds on the subject and it will take some more time to get to a total ban.
Hopefully, your nephew has learned a lesson. You sleep around with women who are willing to lay on their backs for you without benefit of marriage, don't expect the quality of those women to be very high.
I read an article in my local paper from an older woman who wrote of a classmate in college who had recieved an illegal abortion and died. She said she was a life long Demo. and was pro-choice. She said she was too old to have an abortion and looked to the younger generation to fight the 'good' fight. Not once in the article did she make reference to the fact there were '2' deaths that day. SAD!

You'll notice that it is almost impossible to find any statistics about how many women have died as a result of "legal" abortion, and this doesn't even take into account the subsequent suicides. The left goes on and on about the "dangers" of "back alley" abortions with "coathangers" but fails to realize that the decline in deaths from abortion was totally due to advances antibiotics.
The left is totally unwilling to even discuss the fact that nearly 50 million babies have been slaughtered. Statistically, about half of these babies would have been female, and many of them would have been mothers by now. It becomes almost incalculable to determine how many lives have actually been lost. Whenever some leftist starts telling me how Social Security needs to be fixed because there are going to be more retired people than workers in a few years, I always point out that this would never have been the case if the abortion holocaust hadn't occurred.
If Democraps could find a way to make sure that every fetus would vote for them, abortion would be illegal in the twinkling of an eye.
