The Star

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran will teach any attackers a "lesson that will last throughout history", a senior commander said on Sunday, reinforcing Tehran's defiant stance after being reported to the U.N. Security Council.

"We are not seeking a military confrontation, but if that happens we will give the enemy a lesson that will be remembered throughout history," Abdolrahim Moussavi, head of the joint chiefs of staff, was quoted as saying by the ISNA students news agency.

"This nation has proved its will many times to its enemies. Why do they want to test this great nation once again?" he said, addressing a meeting of troops.

Iran was reported to the U.N. Security Council on Saturday after failing to allay suspicions that it is seeking nuclear weapons. Iran denies the charge.

The United States and Israel have said they prefer diplomacy as a means to solve the dispute over Iran's atomic programme but have declined to rule out military options. Iran is armed with an unknown number of Shahab-3 ballistic missiles that could reach Israel and U.S. bases in the Gulf.

I guess we're in for another "Mother of all Battles" that will "Unleash the Gates of Hell".

It's time to clean out this festering boil on humanity.

For their own internal reasons they want an attack to happen, unfortunatly Bush outsourced the Iran problem to Europe and the UN and they're not cooperating.

LOL!

I hate to keep re-posting from an older thread, but it is important that Freepers know and understand the reasoning behind Iran's actions:

The problem is not really linked to Israel or any western nation directly, on the contraary, in a speech on November 16th, Iranian President Ahmadinejad spoke of his belief in the return of the Twelfth Imam.

One of the differences between the Sunni and Shi’ite Islam sects is that the latter, who dominate Iran and form the majority in Iraq, believe that Allah shielded or hid Muhammad al-Mahdi as the Twelfth Imam until the end of time.

Shi’ites expect the Twelfth Imam, which Jews and Christians would recognize as a messianic figure, to return to save the world when it had descended into chaos. Shi’ite orthodoxy has it that humans are powerless to encourage the Twelfth Imam to return.

However, in Iran a group called the Hojjatieh believe that humans can stir up chaos to encourage him to return. It seems that the esteemed President of Iran is a firm believer in the Hojjatieh. The Ayatollah Khomeini banned the group in the early 1980s because they rejected one of the primary commitments of the Iranian revolution: the concept of Vilayat-i Faqih (Guardianship of the Jurist). In other words, they opposed the notion of an Islamic republic because it would hinder the Twelfth Imam’s return on account of it being too just and peaceful.

Today, in addition to Ahmadinejad himself being a member, the group has connections to the holy city of Qom's ultraconservative cleric Mesbah Yazdi whom Iranians frequently refer to as the "crazed one" and the "crocodile." Four of the twenty-one new cabinet ministers are purportedly Hojjatieh members. Some reports state that cabinet ministers must sign a formal pledge of support for the Twelfth Imam.

THIS, more than anything else is the root cause of the current hijinx in Iran. As I stated before, it will get a lot more interesting as the Iranians push for worldwide chaos to invoke the return of the 12th Imam. Don't write this off as looney-tunes. Remember, no-one ever thought that they would be crazy enough to crash a plane into a building either!

We are not seeking a military confrontation

That is Iran for the first time blinking. They are scared of what their rhetoric could bring about.

They aren't blinking, they are just puffing out their chest a little and crowing.

Hey Iran, you fought Iraq for 8 years, lost a million people, and barely managed to pull off a draw. We annihilated them in less than 3 weeks.

Thank you for the excellent comment on why AhMADinejad must be taken seriously. I can easily see how someone like him could "feel" like he's being "used" to bring on that 12th Imam. And the more chaos he can cause, the sooner that 12th Imam arrives. And what excitement it must give him to picture the 12th Imam "thanking him" for helping to bring his return to fruition.

BINGO! We have a winner.

the Hojjatieh is a SERIOUS threat.

WIth the devout mooselimbs drooling and slathering for their "religion" to be taken serioulsy, coupled with the Quaran dictating the establishment of a worldwide caliphate, Iran is seeing itself as a catalyst in the return of the Mahadi.

I think Ahmadinejad believes the the Twelfth Iman is here now. His delusion, if that's what it is, has taken on a "real" feel. He's acting as if he knows it happening. Why would that be unless he has met the person he believes to be the one. Is that possible?

The Hojjatieh have always believed that the 12th Imam walks the earth. that he is a timeless being that is being "hidden" by Allah until the appropriate level of chaos on earth is underway and the Mahadi steps forth to calm all. The Hojjatieh believe that they can stir up emough hate and discontent to force this to happen.

Just a few more questions - is the Mahdi a human who becomes inhabited by the spirit of the 12 Iman? The Mahdi is supposed to be a direct descendant of Mohammed and have a broad nose. It sounds like the person is born, lives here and is overcome by the spirit of the Mahdi... is that close?
