I just returned home from shopping at Wal-mart Salem NH. with my son. I couldn`t believe my eyes. The hunting department was gone. Fishing supplies where still there, however the gun racks where empty. I inquired with one of the store clerks as to what was going on , and was informed that it was a corporate decision to phase out hunting at this store. At that point i informed her that i would not shop at walmart again. I immeadiatley went home and banged out an e-mail , snail-mail, and phone call to the corporate offices of walmart. I hope many more of you will do the same. Below is the letter I sent and contact information. Feel free to copy and paste it or just write your own. But if you are a hunter or shootist then stand up and be counted.
April 3, 2006 Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Bentonville, Arkansas 72716-8611. Dear Sir or Madam: I just returned home from shopping at walmart in Salem NH. I was informed by one of the employees that they have phased out hunting equipment and guns and that this was a corporate decision. Well my decision is to never shop at walmart again. And thats a promise that you can take to the bank. I have been a member of the NRA for many years, and come in contact with many hunters and shootists. I intend to start an e-mail campaign to BOYCOTT WALMART. Lets see if e-mail gets around the way its supposed too.

No problemo. Let them lose the sales. I buy from gun show and the internet.

Southern NH is being infested by liberals from Mass. They come to NH because there's no income tax, and immediatly start campaigning for higher taxes. Go figure.
Good for you! Since Wal-Mart caved on this, what will be the next thing they cave to!
"...and immediatly start campaigning for higher taxes."
Same thing with the Chicago libs moving into NW Indiana where my mother-in-law lives. "OH isn't this quaint. Oh aren't taxes low. But you know, we need this, and this, and this, and this...."
BTW, I buy my firearms at a local shop (keep the little guy going where I can) and my lead at the gun show.
I have been looking for gun shows to go to in my area. Can you give any tips on where to find gun shows?
There is this person at forums I go to and he is really anti-hunting and condescending. I am sure here he was at FR and got banned.
The New Yorkers have done the same thing to CT... They moved out for the low taxes and then raised taxes.
"Contacting Wally Worlds home office is a waste of time. I have emailed, called, and written letters about their sorry customer service 2-3 times and never got a response. Taking the guns off the shelf should make the Wal-Mart worshipers on FR happy."
Nothing like throwing cold water on a guy's idea. Almost like a DU troll. I said almost in case you aren't.
I say still write the letters and call!

Don't know where you're at, but the American Rifleman NRA magazine lists gun shows every month. Beware, not all gun shows are created equally. Most I've been to have good eals on amm and lots of other stuff, but usually overprice guns.
You should also post this at some of the larger gun related forums. Here's a couple to get you started:

Just curious how you know this decision was based on "caving" in to anti-hunters. Are you certain it wasn't based on sales? Wal-Mart is all about maximizing revenues by the square inch. Were you told that this was a PR decision, not a business decision?
lol, well i guess gunshows won't be my thing then. Before Hurricane Rita hit I bought 10 boxes of 30-30 ammo for my trusty rifle and I didn't have an opportunity to fire a single shot. oh well, maybe there won't be a limit on the amount of deer I can kill this year. east texas has been overflowing with them.
Here in the South, we've had folks coming down from up north (land of high taxes and excessive laws) for decades, and once here they try to make us do things like "They did back there."
Southernors are real tired of these folks.
Walmarts in my area suck big time. Employees are bitter (for whatever reason, I think part of it is the fact that they are bitter they have to work instead of collecting a welfare check)and hateful towards customers. People need to start supporting their small town local businesses and give Walmart the finger.
