Just a reminder: Free Republic is a conservative site

Posted on 04/11/2006 3:33:35 AM PDT by Jim Robinson

Just a reminder: Free Republic is a conservative site. We fight for conservative principles, values and causes. We defend the Constitution. We defend our borders. We defend our God-given rights. We are opposed to the liberal/socialist/Marxist agenda for America. We do not willingly give up ground to the Marxists.

It's true that the illegal immigration issue is very discouraging, and I don't know if anyone has a solution that will appeal to conservatives and yet manage to get by Democrat obstructionism, ie, a filibuster, but I don't see that as any reason to give up everything. We should not allow it to rip us apart and destroy the movement. We fight on.

We hold the majority. We continue working as hard as we possibly can to elect as many conservatives as we possibly can. We build a conservative majority that can overcome the Democrats and the RINOs. We do not willingly give up any seats to Democrats. We add seats. Preferably, conservative seats.

I would also like to remind everyone, that Free Republic does not condone racism and does not advocate violence. We exercise our first amendment rights to free speech and peaceable assembly. We do not condemn people because of their race, religion, ethnicity, skin color, etc. We do not advocate civil war, anarchy, or an overthrow of the government. We do not advocate shooting illegals or mining the borders. We do not appreciate people coming across our borders illegally, but as conservatives, we do not issue racial epithets or threaten them with violence or bodily harm.

And, yes, we are at war. And we do support our troops and their mission. We also respect our commander-in-chief and are mindful that when people disrespect him, it hurts troop morale. We do not appreciate the mainstream media's attempts to destroy America's will to fight and we do not do anything to assist the Democrats and their accomplices in the media in their treasonous mission of undermining the war effort by providing aid and comfort to the enemy.

And despite our dissatisfaction and disappointments in regards to the illegal immigration issue, we recognize that it is not the last issue on earth and there are plenty of other reasons not to allow the Marxist Democrats to retake power.

I'll list a few issues (by no means and exhaustive list) that will be adversely affected by Marxist/Democrats in power:

Islamofascism/terrorism
National Security/Defense
The United Nations (as in their control over us)
The Supreme Court
The federal judiciary
The legislative agenda
The right to life
Marriage between one man, one woman
The family
Education
Health care
Private property
Taxation
Oil/energy
The right to keep and bear arms
The right to freedom of religion
The right to self-governance
All of our God-given rights
The Constitution
The Republic
Liberty itself

Do not get so discouraged that we give it all up. It could take generations to get it back. If ever.

"Securing the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity" is our duty.

If petulence is a point.

Jim is wrong on this one. You are wrong on this one. Capitulating merely makes it that much easier to capitulate the next time. The very idea that we should all pick our battles only in light of political expedience is silly (and wobbly).

I'm not suggesting we burn the place down. Just suggesting that if movers and shakers like Robinson are convinced we can't win, then we can't win. Game over.

There are two groups of people in this world.

Those that believe what they are told to believe,

and those that believe what their minds tell them to believe.

I like to think of the first group as liberals the so called free thinkers that are neither free nor think but are only led.

And the second group is of course, the conservatives whose opinions are formed into steel from thoughts in which they strongly believe, I count myself as a member of the second group.

If the 12 million illegals ever get citizenship (and I feel that that is inevitable--as democrats see a voter-GOLD MINE there), the 'conservative' agenda will get much, much tougher. We'll need sites like this even more in the future.

Thanks for your efforts here!

"Actually I meant that New Orleans didn't have enough righteous people in the city to do the right thing, and so the city couldn't be saved.

Same may be in the pipeline for SF."

Well see, I would not measure New Orleans about the number of righteous individuals with the place already below sea level and sinking, and only kept dry with levees designed for no more than a category 3 hurricane. We were given gray matter for the purpose of determining where we live to be survivable in the event of catastrophic events.

Interesting, as many of those that survived that wall of water, a good number of them came out praising the LORD for the miracle of their surviving.

This is the great flaw in our system. It is winner-take-all, with no room for proportionality. It kills third-parties much as the shade from an old, decrepit tree prevents new growth from sprouting.

Why are third parties such a great idea? I mean, does it really make a difference whether a candidate runs as a member of the Constitution party or the Republican Party if its the same guy with the same views? You'd still end up with the same spectrum of people in Congress -- just different party labels. Ron Paul is a pretty good example there. Does he vote any differently now than he did before?

"I don't see any reason to fear the evolutionists. I have faith in the Creator."

Who could argue that point, the Lord remains in charge, but the issue isn't fear.

Teaching evolution in school harms our children intellectually, and spiritually, while weakening our country in the same ways. A conservative site should not tolerate institutionalized ignorance of any kind; it's all equally harmful.

I don't care which group you belong to. In case you hadn't noticed, I've been hitting back with facts. Liberals can't deal with cold hard facts. Believe what you want, the facts are what remain.

Well said, and thank you for saying it (and for providing us with this great forum).

I hope more conservatives will be open-minded about President Bush's plan, rather than reacting emotionally against it.

And I'm as conservative as you can get. (To establish my bona fides: I was a Buchanan voter in my state's '92 Republican primary.)

Yet I think Buchanan is wrong on this issue. Much as I admire Senators Sessions, Kyl, and Cornyn, I think they're wrong too. (And much as I despise McCain and Hagel, I think they're right.)

I do not see President Bush's plan as "amnesty," and I think it's dishonest to portray it as such.

Nor is it honest to call all illegals "criminal." Our current law does not define illegal presence here as a criminal offense. And the recent Republican bill in the House --the one that attempts to re-categorize illegal presence as a felony-- has been an utter disaster.

I believe Larry Kudlow, et al, that trying to deport all the illegals is not only logistically impossible, but would be an economic disaster --for us-- as well.

Look, fellow conservatives, we ALL want border security.
We all want every alien coming into this country checked for criminal history or intent.
We all want immigrants to learn to SPEAK ENGLISH and to understand and respect our American system of government.

As I see it, the president's plan and the latest Senate compromise is the best one out there. Yes, it's easy to ridicule, and it will not work perfectly and will not make everything hunky-dory. But nothing will at this point. We have to do something, and the president's plan is a start.

In a hypothetical third-party system, you'd have a robust third party full of Ron Pauls (and, perhaps, Buchanan-brigaders and Tancredoites as well). Would this party be a majority? Probably not. But it could, under parliamentary practice, form a coalition with the mainstream Republicans and force them to adopt most of their platform if they wanted a majority. Ditto for the DemoRATS regarding any Green-type party.

"6.1billion"

These days, 6.1 billion is not so much money. I believe it is less than the current cost of one Nimitz-class aircraft carrier and its air group. It would be money well spent. And you are quite right about the long-run savings.
