New York Post ^ | May 24, 2006 | IAN BISHOP

- In a surprise move yesterday, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton called for "most of the country" to return to a speed limit of 55 mph in an effort to slash fuel consumption...

"The 55-mile speed limit really does lower gas usage.

And wherever it can be required, and the people will accept it, we ought to do it," Clinton said at the National Press Club.

I use cruise whenever it is safe to do so. It was HOT, so I had the A/C on the whole time.

The Camry was a 6 speed auto and the Highlander was a CVT auto.

Ozzy Osbourne is slated to be the national pitchman for this issue.

Dunno how people there feel about the double-nickel.

Ohio has a 60 MPH speed limit on most of the highways and the most nitpicky traffic cops you have ever seen.

I hate driving in Ohio.

Good observation! The environment is sure to be an issue in the next election. Hillary jumping on the bandwagon. She might just have to stop riding around in 10 car armored SUV caravans and flying on private jets before she has any credibility.

I'll bet that based on how people there vote with their right foot, there's a majority that can't drive 55.

Look, this thing is perfect for her. In 2 days, everyone will forget about it. She could claim to be for it if it's to her advantage or she could play it down if it isn't. It's the kind of thing to get her bona fides down for the moonbats without attracting too much attention from sane Americans.

Ten years ago that would have been true. Noithing gets lost in this media age. Everything is on tape with video.

I say one word concerning a return of the 55 mph speed limit. Bull$h!t ! Also, hell no !!!!!

I just did a trip from Colorado to Indiana/Ohio last weekend to go to the Dayton Hamfest and drop my Jeep off for the Summer since I will be there quite a bit this coming Summer. I drove mostly at 80 mph for almost the whole trip. If the limit was 55 mph, this would basically be called reckless driving even though it is a reasonable speed.

Hillary travels with a fleet of heavy, armored suvs.

She should get out and walk.

I am sure there would be a mandate that points have to be assessed for highway speeding. When Montana passed the wasting natural resources $5 fine, the people in the Federal Gov't was pissed about Montana thumbing their nose against the 55 mph idea. I am also sure that she also would require states to sign the AAMVA Driver License Agreement to ensure punishment for exceeding 55 mph out-of-state as well.

Part of my college years, there was a blanket 55 mph speed limit. there was no 65 mph limit and it sucked the big one ! Talk about breeding contempt towards illogical laws which I have as much contempt towards today as then.

The 55 mph limit might be reasonable for the urban East Coast but it is wrong for the Western states. This East Coast one size fits all does not work and it is arrogant.

BTW, dear Hilliary, I will NOT comply with this 55 mph limit nor will I respect it, like it, support it, promote it, period.

Pass your stupid back east type 55 MPH law again and we’ll quickly go back to our reasonable and prudent statute with a low fine and no points.

Thanks to you both for the information. I was wondering why a police cruiser pulled over to get out of my way on my one trip thru Montana. I was going about 90, and when I realized it was a police car I really panicked. Now it all makes sense....

Is this from Scrappleface? 55 is the lower limit already. You have to do 75 to 95 on the on-ramp just to merge safely.
