I’ve found God, says man who cracked the genome
Times Online ^ | June 11, 2006 | Steven Swinford

THE scientist who led the team that cracked the human genome is to publish a book explaining why he now believes in the existence of God and is convinced that miracles are real.

Francis Collins, the director of the US National Human Genome Research Institute, claims there is a rational basis for a creator and that scientific discoveries bring man “closer to God”.

His book, The Language of God, to be published in September, will reopen the age-old debate about the relationship between science and faith. “One of the great tragedies of our time is this impression that has been created that science and religion have to be at war,” said Collins, 56.

Sort of off topic, but a lot of scientists do seem to be very big on that unified theory thing. Yes, it could answer many things and give more understanding to the universe and the laws of physics.

in humans, and not through small incremental mutations of a net increase of genetic information from a unicellular organism.

No. They is a large chance that they will still keep their religious faith that true scientists cannot be Creationists. Furthermore, they will probably just find something to either deride about him or try to declare him to not be a young Earth Creationist. For von Braun they jumped on him for being a former Nazi and for supposedly believing in an old Earth. Has their been any mention of the mri man?

if you mean by macroevolution, you're wrong. The human genome was made when the first man was made. And the egg came after the chicken.

The basis for religious understanding, in my case, is knowing there is no division between external reality (i.e., objective physical universe) and internal reality (i.e., imagination, thought, belief, hope).

"It hinges on the fact that God broke into recorded history, in the person of his son, Jesus Christ"

Collosians 1:15. [Now] He is the exact likeness of the unseen God [the visible representation of the invisible]; He is the firstborn of all creation,

Collosians 1:16. For it was in Him that all things were created, in heaven and on earth, things seen and unseen, whether thrones, dominions, rulers, or authorities; all things were created and exist through Him [by His service, intervention] and in and for Him.

Collosians 1:17. And He Himself existed before all things, and in Him all things consist (cohere, are held together).

Collosians 1:18. He also is Head of [His] body, the church; seeing He is the Beginning, the Firstborn from among the dead, so that He alone in everything and in every respect might occupy the chief place [stand first and be preeminent].

Collosians 1:19. For it has pleased [the Father] that all the divine fullness (the sum total of the divine perfection, powers, and attributes) should dwell in Him permanently.

Collosians 1:20. And God purposed that through (by the service, the intervention of) Him [the Son] all things should be completely reconciled back to Himself, whether on earth or in heaven, as through Him, [the Father] made peace by means of the blood of His cross. Amplified Bible

.....or any other 'orthodox' version will give you the same info: The Son was Always extant.... without him, nothing exists...."He is the exact likeness of the unseen God [the visible representation of the invisible]; He is the firstborn of all creation"

"For it was in Him that all things were created, in heaven and on earth, things seen and unseen, whether thrones, dominions, rulers, or authorities; all things were created and exist through Him [by His service, intervention] and in and for Him."

The point being: Christ is God. He is the 'likeness of God. He did NOT 'break into .. history'; He CREATED HISTORY, (and everthing else that exists, including all the unseen dimentions of string theory) [wink, wink]

Let's not be inventing and Scripture here!

Look up the definition of scientist. Also, since you seem to be a macroevolutionist, how exactly has the scientific method been applied to the hypothesis of macroevolution, or Creationism for that fact? A proper experiment on macroevolution (including geological evolution) or Creationism cannot be done. Scientists cannot approach the scale of the universe, and knowledge of the early Earth is sketchy, moreso for the macroevolutionist, but also for the Creationist.

Romans 1:19,20:

because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.

For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.

This was a great article. Thanks for posting!

Look up the main developer for the mri scanning machine. His two macroevolutionist partners got Nobel Prizes, while he didn't. Furthermore, look at the macroevolutionist's side in any number of crevolists. There is a lot of disparaging comments for the Creationists (yes, there are some for the macroevolutionists, too, but count; they're much less). You'd figure that if laymen Creationists are mocked by laymen macroevolutionists then scientist Creationists are mocked by scientist macroevolutionists (there is already some of that on FR). A scientist who acknowledges Creationism would probably be insulted or at least alienated from his macroevolutionist peers, just as Creationist freepers are derided as being ignorant nutcases by their macroevolutionist peers.

A scientist can make an experiment to experiment if gravity exists, although he knows that it does. The scientist is still a scientist. Again, a suggestion, look up the definition of scientist.

Most of the macroevolutionists so far are old freepers.

How much knowledge have you on Creation science? You could go to www.answersingenesis.org and get some information about Creationism. Just a guess, but is your only information about Creationism from macroevolutionary sources? if so, you should see what Creationism is to Creationist organizations (as Creationists should go to macroevolutionist organizations (very easy to find, www.livescience.com for one) for their opinions on macroevolution).

But how did God create the human genome?

Dude, you can make just about ANYTHING with these suckers. #4496 "Creator" set...I think they even mention it in Genesis. ; )

God created evolution.
Evolution created man.
Man created religion.
Religion created God.

"God turning out to be a scientist means that God isn't omniscient."

He likes to keep you confused.

"Collins was an atheist until the age of 27....He decided to visit a Methodist minister and was given a copy of C S Lewis’s Mere Christianity, which argues that God is a rational possibility. The book transformed his life"

Collins is in his late 50's. So the Genome project had nothing to do with his religious conversion as is hinted at in the article. That is important, many people including scientists are believers, so what. The headline of this makes people think that research on the Genome had some special import for him.
