WEEK 24 - Olney, MD, 6-10-06: Operation Infinite FReep, Many Pleasant Surprises and Good Times
June 12,2006 | trooprally

Posted on 06/12/2006 5:33:30 AM PDT by trooprally

This FReep can be counted as one of the top couple of FReeps in Olney. After 23 weeks of standing on the corner in the middle of Olney, I think the Olney FReep is finally maturing. Next week will be the test to see if this week was not just an anomaly.

Pics are by [Mrs] Trooprally and iMacMan. Due to the numerous pics and the time to write this thread, I'm not going to identify who shot which pics.

So much happened today, I don't know where to begin this Report.

So I'll start at where we have been lacking for most of the Olney FReeps. We outnumbered the moonbats 2 to 1. We had 14 FReepers, Lurkers and locals to 7 moonbats. YES, you read it right, we had one local walk in and hold a sign. Another local stuck around talking to us to see if we okay. Both said that they'll be back next week.

Click HERE to see early panoramic view of our corner. Thanks to iMacMan for taking and 'pasting' pics together.

We had three surprise FReepers show up today.

[Mr] & [Mrs, our daughter] of Mr.Mrs.RedWhiteBlue (RWB) and family were visiting us today. So [Mr] RWB and 4 of our grand kids came out to FReep. [Mr] RWB and Lurker Marie have been there before, but it was the first time for the three younger ones who wanted to come out. [Mrs] RWB stayed at the house to watch our toddler grand daughter and to order pizza when the FReep was over.

The three younger ones started out holding "HONK, Support our Troops" sign and American flags. They got a thrill (BELOW LEFT) every time a car honked. That's [Mr] RWB and myself in the back ground attaching the flag to the pole. And we had more honks than ever this week. BELOW RIGHT: Grand kids, Lurker Marie, me getting sign, [Mrs] T with Lurker Bill behind her

BELOW: Unfortunately the youngest pooped out early. I think she was chilly with the wind and temps in the low 70s, and got distracted from the honking, but she still proudly held her flag up.

BELOW LEFT: Lurker Marie's originally held sign. BELOW RIGHT: Lurker Marie's quickly made sign that read "War is not the answer, But when people want to mess with the USA, Then It Is!!!".

After we got home, all four of the kids pleaded to come out again. They really had such a good time.

Did I mention that there was wind gusts up to 25 MPH, again, that the red banner was not put up, again. If I knew we were going to have so many supporters this week I would have put it up. With people holding it instead of using rebars, it is a lot more controllable.

The second pleasant surprise was iMacMan (iMM). He initially walked up to the corner without his camera, but soon went back to get it. Even with [Mrs] T's new found picture taking, no one out does iMacMan with his great picture taking. Besides, no one can see all that is happening, so the more cameras, the better.

BELOW LEFT: BMW, smoking cigar (yes, he also gave me one), holding one of the new signs and iMM. BELOW RIGHT: Myself, [Mr] RWB, and iMM with kids at bottom. With so many of us there, we did not need iMM to hold a sign all the time, so he was able to use two hands to take his pics.

The third pleasant surprise as you saw above, was that BMWcyle (BMW) showed up. I waved at a honking SUV as it went around the corner and I thought I recognized BMW. But I didn't see his sidekick, Apple Blossom. I mentioned to iMacMan that it looked like BMW. Then when he turned into the shopping center turning lane, I started to smile. Then I saw the front of BMW's SUV stopping by our cars and I really starting to smile. And then, ta-da, there he was. I was disappointed Apple Blossom & kids weren't with him, but over joyed that he made it.

BMW was looking good since this is his first FReep after his appendectomy of a week earlier. He's still recuperating, but he stood tall and proud today.

In summary, the list of FReepers in attendance included regulars Lurker Bill, [Mrs] Trooprally ([Mrs] T), Cindy_True_Supporter (CTS) and myself, and not so 'regular' iMM, BMW, [Mr] RWB, Lurker Marie and our three other Lurker grand kids by default.

While we had a lot of support this week, I need to thank the regulars for their weekend after weekend support. They hold down the fort and keep a presence on the corner until others come and help.

BELOW LEFT: Ever faithful Lurker Bill BELOW RIGHT: Myself, [Mr] RWB, ever faithful CTS, holding two signs in the wind, with iMM behind the billowing blue banner.

Another surprise was when Local Stu showed up, a little late, but there. He has been to 3 or 4 FReeps, but with family concerns, he couldn't make it for the last several months. Stu mentioned that after Al Zarqawi's great demise, he called the offices of Ted Kennedy, Harry Reid and several other pols, and gave his condolences. Most hung up on him.

We first met Stu during our September, 2005 Pro-Troop rallies, before we became FReepers. He saw our call for boots on the ground through the Montgomery County Republican Party. The Rep. Party mass emailing to their members about the Olney Support the Troops Rally. He and his son came out to help.

Another surprise was that two other locals came to stand with us. One is a two tour, Army Vietnam Vet. He was a Physic Ops unit for one of his tours. When he initially stopped by (BELOW LEFT), he had on his sun bleached Vietnam Vet cap on but went him. He left for a short period and returned (BELOW RIGHT), proudly wearing a new Army cap. He fell in love with Albion Wilde's sign from Walter Reed the night before. The other was a Coast Guard vet, (BELOW BOTTOM) with myself and CTS, during the Vietnam War, though he didn't see action in Vietnam. It turns out, these two recognized each other, but forgot each others name. So they got reintroduced to each other after a long separation. Both said that they will be out next week.

The last two surprises were that we had a lady stop by after honking and waving for us (BELOW LEFT). She said that her husband also honks for us and gets really upset about the moonbats on the opposite corner. They have a son in Iraq for his second tour. She promised that her and her husband will be there next week, and maybe her daughter. BELOW RIGHT: Lady talking to [Mrs] T while BMW gets new sign ready. We had to tape the new signs to sturdier signs since it was blowing so much.

Another couple took a pic of us while waiting at the red light. They then stopped to get a closer pic of us. They said that they have a son in Iraq. They want to show him that there are Americans out there that support the troops and their efforts in Iraq. He told iMM that he has FRee Republic bookmarked on his computer. He also told iMM that at age 70, he is against war. iMM told him we all are, and told him basically that freedom is not free.

So to all those FReepers who think that street corner FReepers stoop to the moonbats level, GO POUND SAND!!!! We will not let our troops experience what our Vietnam Vets did.

BELOW: iMM, being freed up with so many of us supporting the troops, takes an early group pic from the grassy knoll. Our corner actually got crowded once everyone showed up.

While we got more honks than usual, I assume it was the grand kids 'Honk' signs and the 'Al Zarqawi is dead signs'. But we also got more cat calls. They ranged from 'Bush is a criminal', negative head shakes, thumbs down, middle finger salutes, to Bush sucks/F###s. I again assume it is because of the 'Al Zarqawi is dead - Liberals Whine' signs.

If Al Zarqawi is still in the news next week, we'll use the signs again.

The below pics of supporters driving by are all by iMM.

BELOW: We also had a military support vehicle drive by from the local National Guard Unit. To see them wave and honk their horn was very satisfying. One could hear their horn for blocks around. I wonder if the daft moonbats heard it.

Other great pics:

BELOW: Wave from van driver stopped at light who then opens his door and yells "Go Bush!!" to the moonbats.

And of course, the moonbats.

BELOW LEFT: Peek-A-Boo caught peeking. BELOW RIGHT: Fashion Statement.

BELOW LEFT: Oops, there goes the sign again. Old guy "Whada we do? Whada we do?" BELOW RIGHT: "Maybe a little of this, a little of that" BELOW BOTTOM: And its back up again.

BELOW: "Hello, hello - moonbat cave - we are outnumbered!! We need help. Hello? Hello?"

BELOW: And remember the dateless Barking Waveman? As he was leaving BMW yelled something to him and he mimed giving himself a one handed self satisfaction act, right there on the sidewalk.

We need FReepers at Walter Reed. We need you to arrive before 7 PM so that we know how many of you are there in order to put up the MOAB.

Remember, we are there for the troops. The more they see on the corners, the more uplifting it is for the troops. Imagine the troops coming back from the dinners late at night and seeing almost us standing there, waving signs of support and American flags. American flags that they were wounded defending.

I can only imagine their feelings seeing us there so late on a Friday night, instead of being out on the town, at home watching TV, or in bed sleeping.

Join us between 6:30 PM til 9:30 PM at the main gate.

RE: Olney FReep - If you live in northern VA and want a short cut to Olney, contact us. It's an easy 20 minute drive from the American Legion Bridge.

I believe that it is a female who's implants migrated down to her waist, not a guy with kidney problems and the beer never left his waist. Since both her and Barking Waveman usually are the last two to leave, maybe she is his date. I wonder if he insists that she keep holding the sign when they have dinner in his car.

HOPE THE MODS DON'T REMOVE THIS COMMENT

Excellent Freep and report! Great turnout!

I still think sometimes that Waveman
may have a good point, however.

Now that deserves a ROTF LOL!!!! Also, good photoshop.

No wonder the moonbats like that corner - close to the traffic signal box.

Yea, the turnout was a surprise. Going by percentages, the more locals who say they will come out with us, the more likely a certain percentage will follow through. Our rule is plan for 50% of the people who verbally say they'll be there. Hope we don't have to revise our rule.

Stu is definitely NOT a RINO. I would like to get him into FR, but he's deep into family matters right now. Friendly guy who isn't shy about holding a sign. It was a real surprise and joy to see him after such a long absence.

Thanks for the compliment about the grand kids, not that we had much to do about it. Can you imagine my ugly mug on one of the twins?

The grand kids are better than cats, adorable, cuddly, and then they leave at the end of the day. :-))

But they don't leave before they help around the house, for spending money. Even the 3 year old gets out there. They have moved and stacked at least a chord of wood since last fall. They have a contest to see who can carry the most. They have also hauled a lot of branches deep into the woods.

Our kids did it 20 years ago, every weekend, and they still reminisce about it in a joking manner. It acted as a kind of a bonding factor. And they didn't get paid. Now it is part of the tradition of being at grandma & grandpa's house. All of our grand kids do it or help me outside in some manner.

Of course everyone enjoys the fires in the winter.

Time to call it a day. Hopefully we'll see you at WR again, soon.

[Mr] T
