This just in!
Err America radio, who has been paying WLIB-AM for 100% of its airtime, has lost its home. They found a new station, WWRL, has a transmitter located in New Jersey and is a 25kW datytime, 5kW nighttime station. The directional antenna patterns are very tight to the Southeast to cover NYC, with a lobe to the NW towards Paterson, NJ during the day that is eliminated at night.
WLIB is 30 kW daytime and 10kW nighttime, its daytime pattern similar to WWRL's but not as tight and with a lobe to the east that gets it into Long Island. WLIB's nighttime pattern is extremely broad to the NE, E and SE.
This will mean a massive loss of listeners in the NYC area as its station is far less in power, even moreso at night, and the pattern much more restrictive.
One can only wonder how much Err America is now paying for a far weaker signal.
Any viable, self-respecting syndicated radio show does NOT pay for its carriage on local stations. Broadcasters who have to pay for thei air time are referred to derisively in the industry as "brokers". This translates into "Pay us '$xxxx' and we'll put you on the air. The fact that Err America has has to pay for its airtime in NYC is an industry laughingstock for 2 1/2 years now.
I listened a couple of times, but they are UN-funny and UN-informative. It was just complaining and kevetching.

It sounds like a liberal radio station to me.
And, me thinks Err America is also liberal.
But what do I know about radio programs. I only used to listen to Bob Grant, a true conservative and American hero. I don't listen to the leftists now on WABC and WOR replacing the King of TalkRadio's hours.
Oh Drats , I am going to miss the Randi Rhodes show today, where they still try to prove a Pentagon cover up regarding NORAD's actions on 9/11 (said with much sarcasm)
The finest principle of the First Amendment demonstrated. They may have the right of free speech, but no one has to listen to them. And more importantly, no one wants to.
Yes, it is.

Too Bad So Sad
I had Nov 12 2004 in the pool.
Take your pick...
In their first year, there used to be nearly a dozen websites tracking and reporting specifically or mostly on Air America. As of last fall, there's only one left;
http://radioequalizer.blogspot.com/
The population inside the WLIB daytime city-grade contour is approximately 10.5 million, while WWRL's is approximately 9.5 million (a net loss of 1 million potential listeners).
The real damage is to their nighttime coverage. WLIB covers approximately 10.3 million people at night with a quality signal. WWRL only covers 6.4 million people at night, for a net loss of 2.9 million potential listeners.
That's gotta hurt.
You mean, both of them?
Errr, make that 3.9 million listeners (mathematically challenged).
And here is their night pattern:
What they fail to mention is that 1600 is on the poor propogation end of the dial for AM radio. The best signal propogation takes place at the low end of the AM dial.
I'll take the one on the...err...far left.
Good point. They are paid political programming.
The only thing that keeps the socialist talking points in play is big fascist money from U.S. enemies.

"NY is the nations largest liberal media market and they need to pay others to carry their BS?"
The New York metro area is also the nation's largest Conservative radio market. It is where Rush, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin and Bob Grant all made big names for themselves.
Rush, Sean and Mark all were NY radio regulars before they went to National formats.
