Committeewoman Norma Leggette (4th Ward) isn't sure what the Democratic Party
stands for anymore. She wonders how she's supposed to excite constituents in
her ward about November's elections.
Leggette said there are two Democratic parties in St. Louis - one that benefits
whites and another that ignores blacks. "At one time, Democrats were a solution
for us. I don't know when that changed or why that changed, but it
has," Leggette told me.
Her comments underscore a familiar complaint from blacks who claim the
Democratic Party takes them for granted.
Leggette voiced her concerns Tuesday during a rah-rah session with several
local elected Democrats, hosted by U.S. Senate candidate Claire McCaskill.
After reading the exchange posted on a local Weblog, Pub Def Weekly, I called
Leggette to confirm her comments.
The quotes were correct, the 40-year veteran of local politics told me. She has
no intention of voting for McCaskill's Republican rival, U.S. Sen. Jim Talent,
but, like me, she's grown bored with the dog and pony show put on when major
elections roll around. Democrats show up, throw out the "evil Republican"
mantra, ask for black votes, then disappear without ever addressing our
socioeconomic concerns or needs.
Democrats raise millions for major campaigns that rarely trickle down to
neighborhood committees, like Leggette's, charged with getting blacks to the
polls, she said. It's a "frustrating" experience, complicated by "clueless"
leadership and blacks seeking personal gain.
"My community has been affected by benign neglect. Black political leaders only
interested in lining their pockets with crumbs ought to get the hell out of the
way," Leggette said.
During the meeting Tuesday, Leggette said McCaskill dissed Talent's friendship
with President George W. Bush and criticized the president for letting poor and
black people die in New Orleans. That didn't cut it for Leggette.

I thought the same of the Jews, since Mr. Bush is a huge backer of Israel you'd think they'd vote in better numbers but they also are stuck at the hip- to the dems.
After being taken for granted for decades by the dems you'd think blacks would get tired of seeing these fools coming around only just before elections begging like dogs for votes.
I think the blacks will be smarter than the Jews.
I hope this will encourage the black community to lift up better leadership and start ignoring the rants and raves of self proclaimed leaders such as Jesse Jackson.
Dems don't take black votes for granted. They do all they can to keep as many people dependant on government as possible, and then tell them to vote for dems, since they're the ones who will give them "stuff."
The last thing they want to do is help people get out of a rut and start doing for themselves. Independant people don't vote for dems.

I think there may be two reasons why blacks may be disillusioned with the Democrats.
1. The Democrats are too concerned about trendy, academic ideological matters--things like pacificism, abortion, and gay rights--to bother about helping blacks with the bread and butter issues that concern them.
2. The Democrats haven't been sending much gravy their way recently.
Let's hope it's more of the first motive and less of the second. But this lady sounds like it's lack of gravy that disturbs her.

Actually, you are right. New Orleans Blacks get it. They know that the Democrat Party and the Congressional Black Caucus has done zilch for them in NOLA. MS, TX, FL & AL are leaving Louisiana in the dust. Until Blacks across the county dump the Democrat Party and their current Black leadership, they are going nowhere. Take my word for it, the cesspool cities of America, Detroit, Cleveland, New Orleans are all Black controlled and run. This is a shame because there are millions of Black citizens that could do a bang up job of leadership, if only they had the chance and opportunity. Black folk, the handwriting is on the wall. Best wake up folks and get with a program and folks that make progress, not racism.

My in-laws don't like Christians, and they think the Pubs are all Christians and want to convert them!!! LOL!! They aren't the brightest bulbs in the chandelier....but they THINK they are!! Sad......they also like abortions...even sadder that Jews would support abortion...of all people....saddest.
I had the pleasure of talking to Mr. Talent not long after he lost the MO governor's race. We were on the same plane to BWI. He's a good man, but he is not out of the woods yet against McCaskill. I've been sending money to him and to Santorum.
Talent is a true conservative, but not a firebrand. He's a regular guy, and really needs our support.
My friend, when you deal with a closed mind, you have lost before you have begun. American Jews will only wake up when they are being beheaded by the thousands, just like the Jews in Europe in the 1930s never thought Hitler would kill them by the millions. Poor souls are lost. I wonder what ever happened to the spirit fo the great Jewish leaders and warrriors like Abraham, Moses, Gideon, Joshuas, etc. American Jews need pity, not hate and dislike. And...the real facts are; The Democrat Party is the biggest Jew hater and anti-Israel organization in the country. Just think of names like John Dingell, John Conyers, Barbara Lee, Maxine Waters, Cnythis McKinney, William Jefferson, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, etc. to name just a few!!!
