Happy Anniversary and sincere thanks from the bottom of my heart. I'm only sorry that I was so late in discovering FR.

This site has been a life line for me. After lurking and enjoying the brilliance and wittiness of freepers for over a year, I 'screwed my courage to the sticking plate' and registered in '98....Never looked back! Thank you for this BEST of all web sites, Jim and John.

The early threads are not exactly compatible with the current version of FR.

Thanks for the ping.

Me and my trusty WebTV found it in August of 1997.

Registered at the end of Clinton's trial and Boston's Washington Times ad.

For those of you wondering how far Free Republic has come since 1996, here's the oldest surviving archve from the Internet Archive Wayback Machine (circa June 3, 1997).

"Support the Troops and Their Mission Weekend"
Will Spread Message of Victory-Not Retreat-in the Global War on Terror

Washington, DC-Military supporters from around the country will gather in support for the Second Annual Support the Troops and Their Mission Weekend in Washington, D.C. from September 22-23, 2006. The grassroots effort by military family members, veterans and other patriotic Americans will honor and celebrate the progress made by the men and women defending our nation in the Global War on Terror.

Events will begin on the morning of Friday, September 22 as supporters visit congressional offices to encourage congressional members to support America's efforts to defeat violent Islamic fascism in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world. That evening, at 7 p.m. supporters will gather at the main gate to Walter Reed Army Medical Center, 7200 Georgia Ave., NW, Washington, D.C., in a show of appreciation for the sacrifices made by wounded soldiers and their families to protect Americans from terrorism. The gathering that evening will mark the 75th consecutive Friday of the Walter Reed troop support gathering.

The Support the Troops and Their Mission Rally will be held on Saturday, September 23 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Sylvan Theater on the grounds of the Washington Monument. The speakers will feature Gold Star and Blue Star family members, as well as veterans and other notables. The theme of the rally will be victory in the Global War on Terror.

To date, confirmed speakers include:

o Larry Schweikart – co-author of Patriots History of the United States
o Mychal Massie - Project 21
o Richard August - father of Cpt Matthew J. August, KIA 1/27/04, Iraq
o Capt. Larry Bailey, USN Ret. – Vets for the Truth
o Ray and Becky Davis - Military Families Voice of Victory
o Diana Irey - Washington County Commissioner, Pennsylvania
o Nikki Mendicino - POW/MIA activist
o Kevin Martin - veteran, USN
o Eve Tidwell - God Bless Ft. Benning
o Frank Schaeffer – co-author of AWOL, author Faith of Our Sons-a Father's Wartime Diary

In the wake of the September 11th five-year anniversary, it is important that service men and women and their families are given the support, appreciation and gratitude they deserve.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MR ROBINSON

Wish you were here. (at the DC Rally)

Mr. Robinson, what can I say sir but that you are a patriot. America has benefited greatly from this website and I for one am profoundly and deeply grateful for that. God bless you and your family and may the Lord bless this site and the wonderful people that visit it everyday.
