House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., requested Sunday that the Justice Department conduct an investigation into former Rep. Mark Foley (news, bio, voting record)'s electronic messages to teenage boys — a lurid scandal that has put House Republicans in political peril.
"As Speaker of the House, I hereby request that the Department of Justice conduct an investigation of Mr. Foley's conduct with current and former House pages to determine to what extent any of his actions violated federal law," Hastert wrote in a letter to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.
If they have any brains between them, collectively- you're right- it would be STUPID for them to persue this in a self-righteous way.
However, these aren't people known for thinking first and acting second..
Why do you ask? Did Foley molest her? Is there a connection between Foley and Condit?

If Kos is careful and CREW boldly goes to the FBI with a BS story (assuming their original claim was to the salicious instant messages), all that proves is that George is schizophrenic.
I hate to tell you this...but this is NOT what the dems want..so NO they won't get credit for showing leadership.
You notice that this only askes Gonzalez to look into Foley's actions...NOT the actions of GOP leadership in the House, that may/may not have known for a long time...

Sloan, 39, is executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), a 3-year-old watchdog outfit that Republican congressional flacks commonly describe as a “Democratic front group.” With front groups like these, who needs moles?
Democrats say that they will mount a major drive on ethics heading into next year’s elections. Given that, you might think that CREW, an unabashedly liberal organization founded as a progressive answer to the notorious Clinton-baiting outfit Judicial Watch, would count among the Democrats’ closest allies in that fight. That it isn’t says a great deal about the vast amount of work the Democrats still need to do in seeking to replicate Newt Gingrich’s famed 1994 ethics-campaign strategy and spark a throw-the-bums-out electoral rout of the majority party next year.

Ms. Sloan was Minority Counsel for the U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee from 1995 to 1998. She worked directly with the Honorable John Conyers, the ranking member of the Committee.
CREW represents Plame and Wilson and Sloan is affliated with CREW, IIRC.

The majority of these people do not live loving faithful lives as they'd have us believe. They are promiscuous and spread diseases. They even invented a disease with their behavior but they try to pin it on heterosexuals.
Yes, this MIGHT look bad for the Repubs but let us keep hearing about Michael Jackson and his little boys, homos like Foley all in "love" with a freaking sixteen year old boy, all the same crap and they keep telling us that homosexuality is but another form of love. In the long run this is seriously going to damage one major faction of the Dem party....the homosexuals.
Right now the Dems are desperate to win the majority so they'll risk it.
They all make me sick. OUR KIDS ARE NOT THE SEXUAL PLAYTHINGS OF PERVERTS. If nothing else will rile the American people it is this sort of thing.

You are exactly right. This will boost the idea that homosexuals are sexual preditors. This will have the effect of blow back on the entire gay lobby. This is going to be a total disaster for the gays.
