My nephew has a friend who served on Marine One who says the same thing about President Bush, the Younger. He always recognizes their presence with a salute and knows their names as well.

I believe that deep down liberals hate the fact that they do not know how to earn the respect of those under command. They therefore have to demand respect, which of course leads to resentment. This attitude is on constant display in matters both public and private.

Thanks for posting this. Prayers & gratitude for our brave Secret Service personnel. Sounds like they had extra special reasons to celebrate term limits & Gore's defeat!

"Character counts!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Several things were drummed into my head as I was growing up. These lessons came from my Great Grandmother (Who lived to be 100 Years old) My Grandfather and Grandmother on my Mom's side and my Grandmother on my Father's side (My Dad's Dad died when he was very young) as well as my Mom and Dad.

Manners were the first and foremost teachings. My Grandfather told me NEVER trust anyone who is abusive to those around him/her and especially if they abuse people who are supposedly "under" them in stature. (Boss berating employees. A diner berating wait staff etc.)

To this day I thank each and every waitress or waiter who brings me my food, because I know my Grandparents are watching over me and will hold me accountable when we meet next. ( See you didn't want to get on the wrong side of Grandma Stover, she would have no truck with back sassing youngins. :-D )

Here, Somebody dug the blurb out for me the other day:

"U.S. President George W. Bush (R) stops to wave while being escorted by Chilean President Ricardo Lagos into La Moneda Palace, at the beginning of a state visit after the closing of the annual meeting of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in Santiago, November 21, 2004....Winding up a three-day visit, Bush spoke at a news conference as a new security flap surfaced following an embarrassing fracas on Saturday in which Bush intervened and pulled his Secret Service agent away from Chilean guards. An elaborate state dinner with 200 people Sunday was downgraded to an official working dinner, reportedly because Chilean President Ricardo Lagos balked at Secret Service demands for guests to walk through metal detectors. [Reuters ]"

While what you say is no doubt true, and not at all surprising, it still concerns me to hear of Secret Service agents gossiping this way. The safety of past, present and future presidents can easily be marginalized by their indiscretions. As much as most of us hate BJ and Hitlery, it would still be disasterous for this country if something happened to them as a result of a security breach.

Hmm - I guess I'll have to go back and read between the lines - I saw nothing that would constitute a security breach =

It has never changed since he began his Presidency. He always treats them with the utmost respect, kindness, and compassion.

President or no president, he's still a country gentlemen.

It does seem a bit unprofessional, but, what in here would possible violate security?

I was at marine Barracks, Wash. DC, during the 'toon's presidency. The same sentiments about the SR. Bushes and Clitons were echoed by the Marines on the Presidential detail and the Marines that gaurded Camp David. For the record, I was never on either of those details; I do trust the Marines that related this first hand, though.

The fact that they are talking at all is a security concern. If the protectees begin to feel that everything they do might get blabbed by the Secret Service, they will start trying to hide things from the Secret Service and this makes them vulnerable.

This was a key issue made by the Secret Service when they tried to keep from testifying about Monica Lewinsky and in my opinion, was the only valid one.

Nancy might have been, well, perhaps not quite as nice as Laura

Actually, I think Nancy was probably closer to Hillary then to Laura in terms of friendliness.

I have a sister-in-law, who retired from the LA Times. As part of her job she often co-ordinated special events or visits to the Times by dignitaries. Once she was coordinating a luncheon where Nancy was to be the guest of honor. The question of attire was broached with Nancy's people, who replied that Nancy felt the mood should be subdued, restrained and that dark colors would be appropriate. The word was spread to the attendees.

Nancy upon arrival was wearing a bright 'fuchsia' flower patterned dress. She stood out from the crowd and was, of course, very photogenic. Which was exactly her intent.

I was not a Reagan fan when he was elected, but developed into one while he was President. Nancy though is another matter and I never have gained any respect for her. However, her love and devotion to 'Ronnie' is admirable.

from 2002 to June 2005. He wasn't there during the clinton years, but many of his coworkers were and pretty much said the same things. He was assigned to Laura Bush a lot and just thought the world of her. It sure was fun going to DC for visits while he was at the WH.

None of this information concerns security information.

Just about the behavior of those served.
