|
You've been waiting for me....
#1 Feather.. Thank you!
Happy Military Mon everyone. Thanks for posting it Russ.
The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund
The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund helps Marines, sailors, and their families meet their financial needs during difficult times. The Fund works closely with the Marine Corps, the Navy, and hospitals nationwide to identify and assess the needs of specific families. The application is easy to complete, the evaluation process is thorough, and assistance is typically delivered within 72 hours of the request.
For more information or to find out how you can help, visit www.semperfifund.org
Few are prepared for the expense. Because of medical advances, Marines are surviving catastrophic injures that were unsurvivable in past wars. They face extended hospital stays and months, if not years, of rehabilitation. Even though the Marine Corps credo is Marines take care of their own, there is only so much assistance that DOD regulations allow. This is the gap that the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund is working to close.
Family happy to see soldier

Of all the gifts sent to Iraq and kind words from strangers in airports, Army Spc. Dannica Smith said, the prayers were what "touched me most" during a yearlong deployment.
"I'm just thankful to God that I made it back safely," Spc. Smith said shortly after arriving at Wilmington International Airport Monday afternoon.
On an otherwise mundane Monday at the airport, Spc. Smith, 23, received a hero's welcome from a small group that gathered to welcome her home. Such reunions happen from time to time at the airport, out of sight to everyone except the families themselves and those lucky enough to be in the airport at the same time.
Spc. Smith, who grew up in Columbus County and attended East Columbus High School, is the daughter of Richard W. Smith, pastor of the Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church on South 10th Street in Wilmington.
Her mother, Gwen Smith, who paced around the airport as she awaited her only child's plane, said her daughter's return marked one of the happiest days of her life.
"That's an honorable thing for her to even want to join the Army in this day and age," Gwen Smith said.
In Iraq, Spc. Smith worked in food service on two bases. She said she already missed the contract workers from Iraq, Sri Lanka and elsewhere who worked with her in base chow halls. They had great senses of humor and have similar dreams and goals in life, such as a desire to protect themselves and their families, Spc. Smith said.
Spc. Smith said she might have to return to Iraq or Afghanistan someday. But before returning to Fort Campbell, Ky., in a couple of weeks, she said she just wants to relax, watch TV and eat what she wants. She also will serve as a maid of honor in the wedding of a good friend who chose a date when Spc. Smith would be home.
Spc. Smith didn't cry - but smiled widely - when she embraced family members and friends at the airport. The Army made her stronger. But her cousin, Geraldine Armstrong, predicted a different reaction when she saw her father later that day.
"She's gonna cry when she sees daddy," Armstrong said. "That's a daddy's girl."

Military technology
As a member of the organization that installs computer systems aboard Navy ships, I am mindful of how important the off-ship e-mail capabilities are to sailor morale, especially when some vessels are deployed for up to six months. One day while shopping at the base commissary, I noticed another crucial aspect of my job.
I was behind a frazzled mother with two active children, and as I watched, she stalked over to where her young son had perched himself on the rail of the freezer case. "If you don't get off there right now," she commanded, "I'm going to e-mail your father!"
Why do you want to join the Navy
Having passed the enlistment physical, Jon was asked by the doctor, Why do you want to join the Navy, son?
My father said it'd be a good idea, sir.
Oh? And what does your father do?
He's in the Army, sir.
Two Arabs are sitting in a Gaza Strip bar...
Two Arabs are sitting in a Gaza Strip bar chatting over a pint of fermented goats milk.
One pulls his wallet out and starts flipping through pictures and they start reminiscing.
"This is my oldest son, hes a martyr."
"This is my second son. He is a martyr also."
After a pause and a deep sigh, the second Arab says wistfully,
"They blow up so fast, dont they?"

Good evening. What a mess this electoral season is turning out to be. It will mean Bush will be impeached if the dems take the house. Just a mess.
What a mess this electoral season is turning out to be. It will mean the Troops will be betrayed -- AGAIN -- if the dems take the house. Just a mess.
I just read where 700 Iraqi policemen fell ill within 2 - 3 minutes of eating a meal. It sounds like Ricin, a weapon of mass destruction. We will be reminded that there are not any WMDs in Iraq by the MSM. I hope our guys food supplies are well guarded. Water too.
