I just want to have a thread to discuss House Rep. Duncan Hunter who is going to be one of our GOP nominees. Seems as if a lot of people on FR are complaining about our choices for 2008 when this great man is going to be in the race as well. I just think he needs to get some coverage and wanted to start this thread.
He is the man conservatives should get behind and I think he deserves his own thread to remind us that we do have a great candidate this time if we'd only realize it.

Good point. They have nothing to lose and much to gain. But they won't do it. They'd have to stand up to the pimp media, and recent history has shown us they won't.
I think the answer is that the GOP Congress people are too fat and satisfied. And too afraid. The media would protray them as defeated usurpers who deserved prison...blah, blah, blah...Chrissy Matthers would pee his pants.
The Republicans just don't have the gonads to do it.
A Governor only sign bills and presents no voting record to determine their position on issues.
Well, your post only backed up the reality of what a McCain or Giuliani nomination will mean when we will NEED every vote in '08!! Yet because Hunter doesn't have the 'NAME RECOGNITION' or because he's only a 'REP', this quality man and candidate shouldn't have a chance. He IS the BEST. Too bad we are not into nominating fighters and quality candidates. The others are seriously flawed and I don't see them making much of a fight sadly.
The voting record goes for ANY candidate.
Just before the congressional break, the Port Security Bill was up. Frist snuck in an internet gambling ban to it because of course gambling is a part of Port Security. Not!
Anyways, if you voted yes, you are for banning gambling. If you voted no, you are against securing our ports. That is why sitting congressional members don't win the Presidency.

I should add that Governors have to take stands on issues too. It remains to be seen how good Romney or the other Governors you think should get the nomination simply because they are GOVERNORS compared to a mere REPRESENTATIVE pion are able to make effective candidates who are able to tell the people effectively. We will see. I just wish people would watch Hunter in this because he will.
I can see through this thread many share your view and I'd like an apology when you nominate less worthy candidates over him and we lose in '08 with the name recognition.
Guiliani will be the candidate, and Duncan would be a perfect Cheney-like VP choice. The word is he'll carry NY. It's embarrassing listening to freepers throw around McLame's name like he's to be reckoned with. His best showing will be a third place in a primary...he's embarrassingly irrelevant.
Likewise, Hillary is a joke. She can hide all she wants, but in the debates she will be exposed to the point of you hearing imaginary laugh tracks after each debate answer. She is one of the worst public politican speakers ever. She's condescending, inexperienced, shrill, when challenged goes into vein-busting PMS rage, she can't think on her feet, and isn't very smart. She comes across as a nervous, dumb first week used car salesman...completely untrustworthy, particularly during war. A rock has more charisma. One more thing. You can't even look at without your stomach turning. She has more baggage than Saddam. She will not get the women vote, and inspires more dislike in Republican voters than Bin Laden.

He may be very personable when you meet him one-on-one, and I'm sure he's a nice, polite and decent person.
But he comes across on TV as a dour personality, seldom smiling, usually in a tone of disapprobation about one thing or another. I see none of the sunny optimism of a Reagan or the self-deprecating humor of a W.
Add to this "personality deficit" the fact that he's a Congressman -- a category that hasn't produced a President in 130 years.
Bottom line: He doesn't stand a chance.
I don't care how nice, or how qualified he is; he needs one hundred million dollars! That's what it's going to take; along with moving to Iowa and NH for the next two years.
Does he have the money and the fire in the belly?

Goodness after the fattest guy on Earth just finished House Speaker and a pretty fat Vice President, I think the United States would ignore a candidate being fat. I don't think that would be an issue. In fact, wouldn't he fit in more than a skinny guy in the U.S. We are quite fat as a whole.
Sorry, that's my assessment. Same with the ex-fatty Huckleberry. Also both have Southern accents. The media finds this cute on a Democrat but an example of racism on a Republican. Sad but true.
He's got no chance. It's down to Rudy, McLame, and Romney.
Much of that baggage appears to be under her eyes.
Duncan Hunter is fantastic on paper..."a conservative's dream!" :)... but, I also thought Allen was the Messiah a few months ago! :)...
The right candidate will not only have all the qualifications on paper, but It will have the presence... and I pray to God, a bit of flair using the English Language... all those things will help catapult him to the top. 
Duncan Hunter, or someone in that mold is the only way to get me to vote Republican again, ever. No more RATpublicans for this ole boy. Blackbird.

Hunter knows that there are people like us who want a REAL CONSERVATIVE. When he went to Congress, no one gave him a chance because he was running against an entrenched fanatic Liberal that people had blindly voted for in droves in previous elections.

Throwing up your hands and saying it can't be done is what Manchurain candidate McCain and RINO Juliani wouls like.
