Not since Teddy Roosevelt took on Tammany Hall a century ago has a New York politician closely linked to urban reform looked like presidential timber. But today exNew York mayor Rudy Giuliani sits at or near the top of virtually every poll of potential 2008 presidential candidates. Already, Giulianis popularity has set off a stop Rudy movement among cultural conservatives, who object to his three marriages and his support for abortion rights, gay unions, and curbs on gun ownership. Some social conservatives even dismiss his achievement in reviving New York before 9/11. An August story on the website Right Wing News, for instance, claims that Giuliani governed Gotham from left of center. Similarly, conservatives have been feeding the press a misleading collection of quotations by and about Giuliani, on tax policy and school choice issues, assembled to make him look like a liberal.
But in a GOP presidential field in which cultural and religious conservatives may find something to object to in every candidate who could really get nominated (and, more important, elected), Giuliani may be the most conservative candidate on a wide range of issues. Far from being a liberal, he ran New York with a conservatives priorities: government exists above all to keep people safe in their homes and in the streets, he said, not to redistribute income, run a welfare state, or perform social engineering. The private economy, not government, creates opportunity, he argued; government should just deliver basic services well and then get out of the private sectors way. He denied that cities and their citizens were victims of vast forces outside their control, and he urged New Yorkers to take personal responsibility for their lives....

"Giuliani is hard-right on defense/foreign policy issues, "
Based on what record?
"If the Democrats win this election, America will lose in a big way that will make 911 look like a trivial event."
If the Liberals win this election, America will lose in a big way that will make 911 look like a trivial event.
There, fixed that for you.
Well...you can't blame the Media too much...Put Giuliani on your cover and you sell magazines put Duncan Hunter on your Magazine and you don't sell magazines except in the 52 Congressional district.
Glad you liked it! I wish some of these folks would actually read it. But that would be conservative :-)
I sure do and the trash talking bashers were on the wrong side of that issue too. Perfect track record. Batting average: ZERO.
You will be getting info shortly! I had to run our precinct meetings last night because our Chair went MIA and we had to slip them a week! Shortly may actually be after our Convention on the 17th of Feb when I finally get out of a County Party leadership position. I had the whole thing with nothing done dumped in my lap less than three weeks ago and been scrambling ever since.
The problem is, with Rudy, there ain't just one big issue - there are several.
Pro-choice.
Pro-gun control.
Pro-amnesty to the point of defying the Supreme Court that New York's sanctuary policy violated federal law.
And support of gay rights (which I don't care about, but I can see why others are concerned).
So for me, Rudy starts with three strikes. In political baseball, that mean's he's out as far as I'm concerned. You can't hit a home run when you've already been called out on strikes.
my main objective is to still have a country in 20 years
and if Rudy Guiliani is the best guy to protect us from from what I and all of the rest of you know is coming then the social stuff has to take a back seat
this is for survival of our kind folks.. this makes WW2 look like a side event
Get your bunkers ready people, we are certain to lose in '08! There will be a Socialism in this land like none of us has ever before seen.
The Islamofacist attacks come later.....
LBJ begat Nixon begat Ford and Ford begat Carter and Carter begat Reagan.
LOL! Got that right! That one night on the Recall threads I had a Freeper warn me to quit posting so I wouldn't get banned so he went and posted for me. Good Old Days are back except we have a ton more experience this time around!
"If someone is everything conservative but wants to ban hand guns does that nix them? "
Yes, because they do not believe in conservative/American ideals ... thus making them a non-American.
Answer me this ... should I have my guns taken away from me? Because this is what your boy Rudy would TRY to do to me and millions like me.
"my main objective is to still have a country in 20 years "
If we elect a Rudy, we may not have a country in 20 years. Not one worth having, at least. One overrun with illegals. One where the population is disarmed. One where it's "Rudy's way or else".
NO MORE LIBERALS!
Abortions in NYC declined under Rudy's watch
Pro-gun control.
Gun-control was the norm in NYC. Rudy cracked down on the thugs and gang-bangers. Name one law-abiding citizen who had their gun taken away
Pro-amnesty to the point of defying the Supreme Court that New York's sanctuary policy violated federal law.
Yes, and I'm discouraged by this. Please keep in mind, though that NYC is ground zero (no pun intended) for immigration. Perhaps Rudy didn't want to offend the citizens.
And support of gay rights
It's NYC, it is what it is.
So it sounds like Rudy is a solid traditional conservative on the Geopolitical, tax, crime, defense front but doesn't give a rat's ass about the culture war.
Hmm....When you get down to I don't give a rat's patoot about the culture war either. I want conseravtive Government that works isn't out to remake the nation.
i'm strong Romney right now
but Rudy isn't going to come get your guns
Rudy did cut the murder rate in half of murderous NYCity in the 90's and I doubt you will ever try to push that on the rest of the country especially now that he is running for President
if Rudy doesn't meet conservatives half way then he is an idiot,,, and he isn't
And Hillary begat Nukes in all our major cities.
