We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian... Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain "true to our native land," the mother continent, the cradle of civilization. God has superintended our pilgrimage through the days of slavery, the days of segregation, and the long night of racism. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community.

Trinity United Church of Christ adopted the Black Value System written by the Manford Byrd Recognition Committee chaired by Vallmer Jordan in 1981. We believe in the following 12 precepts and covenantal statements. These Black Ethics must be taught and exemplified in homes, churches, nurseries and schools, wherever Blacks are gathered. They must reflect on the following concepts:

Commitment to God Commitment to the Black Community Commitment to the Black Family Dedication to the Pursuit of Education Dedication to the Pursuit of Excellence Adherence to the Black Work Ethic Commitment to Self-Discipline and Self-Respect Disavowal of the Pursuit of "Middleclassness" Pledge to make the fruits of all developing and acquired skills available to the Black Community Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting Black Institutions Pledge allegiance to all Black leadership who espouse and embrace the Black Value System Personal commitment to embracement of the Black Value System. The Pastor as well as the membership of Trinity United Church of Christ is committed to a 10-point Vision:

A congregation committed to ADORATION. A congregation preaching SALVATION. A congregation actively seeking RECONCILIATION. A congregation with a non-negotiable COMMITMENT TO AFRICA. A congregation committed to BIBLICAL EDUCATION. A congregation committed to CULTURAL EDUCATION. A congregation committed to the HISTORICAL EDUCATION OF AFRICAN PEOPLE IN DIASPORA. A congregation committed to LIBERATION. A congregation committed to RESTORATION. A congregation working towards ECONOMIC PARITY.

We are an African people, and remain "true to our native land,"

and there is no way on God's green earth we would ever consider moving there.

Remember what Farrakhan said? They had everything in Africa before the White man came and stole it. They even had wings and would fly around the Pyramids until White invaders came and shot them down. Well, apparently one thing they didn't have was gunpowder.

I checked out the web site. Being a member of my church's choir, I checked out the Music ministry tab. Here's what I found for the Men's Chorus:

The Lord has blessed us with another exciting year for the Men's Chorus, and can you believe we are celebrating our 23rd year as strong African American men who are "Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian." It has been an awesome journey as we strive together as One Voice, One Choir.

I wonder - if I decided to join this church, would I be allowed to join the choir? Would they change any of the wording on their web page?

I was thinking the same thing. Their "black values systems" sounds divisive and racist.

Colossians 3:11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.

This a UCC church. They haven't been a Bible-believing denomination for the past 50 years.

The United Church of Christ also has a popular reverend. His name is Barry Lynn who is also the Executive Director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

And I thought the Episcopal Church was bad.

The United Church of Christ seems to be a very liberal church denomination. But it should not be confused with The Church of Christ which from what I gather is very conservative.

I kept on seeing Barry Lynn on TV enjoying using the title of reverend then one day got curious as to what church would except his philosophy so I looked it up.

Not surprising. UCC is way out in left field, has been for a long time.

What's troubling is people like Rick Warren (purportedly conservative?!) giving Obama such a good report and a platform at his church. I can't believe some 'conservative' people even on this forum can't see through Rick Warren's falsehood YET.

Update: Obama Site Removes Pastor's 'Endorsement' (Rick Warren)

How can a pastor justify continually "editing" what he's publicly said???

Why should they be ashamed and apologetic? Sounds like these folks have some mighty large chips on their shoulders.

No more so than any Evangelical church.

Interesting, a supposedly Christian has an entire web page where the word Jesus doesn't appear once. Shows you were their hearts are.

Their Black Value System seems at odds with Galatians 3:26-28:

They're "unapologetically Christian"... as long as that doesn't interfere with their "non-negotiable COMMITMENT TO AFRICA."

The fact that probably 95% of them have never set foot on Africa, and that America is their true native home, seems to be beside the point.

American blood paid for their religious freedom. American soldiers bought and paid for their right to meet as Christians without fear of extermination by Muslims. Do they even begin to comprehend the differences between African and American life, and why those differences exist??

I don't think so. They sound particularly embittered and that isn't Christian.

Re your post #35. It looks like you are claiming that all Evangelical Churches have "chips on their shoulders". Is that correct?

A fair question.

I'm an Evangelical myself - so my critique must be read in that light. But a lot of Evangelical churches speak with a confrontational swagger a lot like this churches. You basically have to go either theologically liberal or post-modern Emergent to find a church that doesn't proclaim themselves to be "unashamed" or "unapologetic."
