Rudy and the others are not offering 75 or 80% of what I'm asking for. Not even close. This is not about idealistic perfectionism, it's about having someone who is even on our side. And for electoral pragmatism, I think a liberal Republican is a disaster. He is likely to lose.

And then what happened? The RINOs took over the RNC and the government, and their sympathizers became more vociferous on the forum, so that many conservatives fled or went quiet. Now is a time of awakening, where the forum will become conservative again.

If you're going to be friends with RINOs and their supporters, be prepared to see their ideas vigorously opposed.

You were for Schwartzie only "because he could win," via "situational politics," or "the politics of expediency" right along with Fair Opinion and the rest of the celebrity worshipping crowd of CA Repellican crowd followers. Rudy is another "celebrity" that "can surely win" that you should be lining up with, yet here you are all confused supporting Duncan Hunter!

Lately, being the preferred Freeper candidate hasn't exactly been a good thing. Most of the Freeper favorites (Santorum, Allen, others) got obliterated in election 2006.

Soooo, what are you saying--we should stop boosting conservatives because they lose elections sometimes? It wasn't for nothing that the Democrats worked so hard and spent so much money to knock those two out. To be honest, however, I never really saw either of them as particularly strong presidential material.

Ok Paulat here goes. It is true that as mayor of newyork Mayor giuliani cleaned up crime and other good things. But newyork is not representative of the majority of the country. He had to placate different powerful groups in the city to maintain popularity amoung his constituants and I understand that. Some people in newyork may think of the mayor as conservative but I think that would be by newyorks standards as to what a conservative is. The rest of the country has a completly differnt take on what a conservative is. Right or wrong the term includes pro gun,pro "life",Pro straight marriage,security of our borders(enforce the laws on the books, and strong moral caliber(Bush comes to mind)The majority of conservatives hold these ideals very dear and are not likely to get behind the mayor once his true record and true positions are known to the base.

President has a habit of surrounding himself with people he knows well and trusts. He is NOT going to "dump Cheney" and try to install Hunter, to help make him better known.

To even bring this idea up, shows desperation on your and others' part and little understanding of politics, government, and President Bush.

And all VEEP replacements must be passed by Congress. With both Houses under Dem control, the Dems chaffing at the bit to shut down our actions in Iraq and to hamstring the president, not only would they NOT even bother doing anything about such a nomination; they'd stick it on a back burner and forget it. If this is the best that you can come up with, you need to do better.

That's a great quote and and awsome strategy. Sadly, with Rudy, we're getting 25% of what we're asking for at best--and we won't have the option of fighting for the rest later because a Giuliani victory effectively means that conservatives have no party at all.

Reagan had another quote about a party he belonged to that abandoned his principles. It went like this: "I didn't leave the Democrat party, the Democrat party left me."
