You know who I voted for in the last election? Tom Kean!!!!! I disagree with every word out of his mouth-—but he lost and we now have Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid. Could things get any worse? At least I didn’t stay home and don’t have the guilt of knowing my inaction is responsible for the current state of Congress.

And you're telling me this, why? You think I punched the button for Arnold here in CA last election with pride?

The general is about voting against the worse candidate. The primary is about getting the best candidate on the ballot, and avoiding the worst one from getting on at all.

I guess I’m just wondering how anyone could stay home or vote third party if the Dem choice is Hillary...I’ll never understand that.

Conservative Democrats in North Florida have no idea just how liberal Rudy is. At the end of the day, Florida would be a tough state for Rudy to carry, since he would need to do far better in Broward and Palm Beach Counties than your average Republican to make up for the lost votes among social conservatives.

Fred Thompson would carry Florida without a sweat.

What if we end up with a Clinton/Guiliani ticket? They are both pragmatic enough to see that it would be a good ticket and ideologically they aren’t that far apart.

On principle, I will not cast my sacred vote for anyone who is pro-abortion, anti-gun rights, pro-homosexual, not strong against illegal immigration, and not strong on going after our avowed enemies.

A simple as that. I hold myself accountable for that vote and if any candidate holds views that conflict with those issues, they simply do not get my vote...I dare not give them my vote. I must stand accountable before God one day for how I personally used the sacred liberty He has bequeathed upon this land.

Will I stay home? Absolutley not. That would be as repugnant as voting for any of those issues I described. I will find a candidate to cast my vote for who supports those fundamental core values.

I do not expect 100% agreement in the least on all of the myriad of issues, but on those fundamental issues...I demand it.

"but, with the exception of Bush 43 our pro life Presidents have done more harm than good on abortion."

Just imagine the damage a liberal abortionist President Rudy will do. The conservative movement will be dead. The GOP will be dead. The Culture of Death will rule over America with virtually no political opposition. With no major conservative party to block them, NARAL, NOW, Planned Parenthood, the ACLU, and the united associations of gays, lezbos, transvestites, transgenders, man-boy love association and pedophiles rules. The abortionists, feminists, environmentalists, homosexualists will be dancing in the streets. Talk about in your face? You ain't seen nothing yet.

I think one of the mistakes we make is in assuming that all independents will vote for a liberal.

Fred will attract voters from different ideaologies- and he’ll do it without selling out. Part of his strength comes from people sensing that he actually believes what he says, that he’s not double-dealing. That’s pretty compelling stuff- particularly in the age of sound-bites and advisors telling the candidate what to think. Fred already knows what he thinks...and he knows how to express it in ways that make sense to highly intelligent thinkers, and to ordinary folks like me.

There are a great many political advisors sitting around desks with calculators, looking at poll numbers, campaign coffers and the like...and making predictions based on what they learn from playing with those numbers.

They neglect one piece of data- because it never occurs to them. What would happen if a candidate decided to have a genuine conversation with America? What we seem to be watching is the beginning of Fred teaching Civics 101.

I believe if this continues, the numbers you refer to will change. In fact, I’d bet on it..

I decided long ago that Hannity was a moderate at best.

And Rush IS NOT supporting Rudy and has made that clear on many occasions.

I think all those groups have already won. The Supreme Court saw to it with Roe v Wade. No pro-life President has been able to change a single thing.

Nice of Guiliani to give his conservative opponents help in their “Guiliani for President NEVER” campaign.

I guess I’m just wondering how anyone could stay home or vote third party if the Dem choice is Hillary...I’ll never understand that.

Well, that's a fair opinion. I am both of that opinion, but am growing to appreciate the opposing view of it. Here in California, the GOP now stands for nothing. Zip, zero, nada. Maybe at best it is "not outright insane, compared to the Democrats".

"Not outright insane" was good enough to make me punch the button for Arnold. But I'm angry that my views now have no organized, funded voice in the state. (To be honest, this happened well before Arnold - like in the reign of Wilson and Bush 1.)

Imagine the Republican President of the United States of America, Mr. Rudolph W. Giuliani, leading the Gay Day Parade down Broadway. In a dress. With SMEARED LIPSTICK and RUNNERS IN HIS NYLONS! America will be the laughing stock of the world!!

I’m sure the dems would be happy with a Clinton/Giuliani ticket on the democrat line. It appears rudy would be happy with that as well. So let’s just allow them to do that.

But that’s not what you really mean, isn’t it? You mean, what IF rudy gets the nomination. I’ll answer your false dilemma if you answer mine.

Hildebeast is eminently beatable, this nonsense about rudy being the only one who can beat her is horse manure and impolite on this socon forum. For example, this article:
“Long Shot GOP Candidate Brownback Just Five Points Behind Clinton”
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1798666/posts
We know that it simply means it’s very early in the race and that even no-name candidates are only 5 points behind Clinton. So the rudybots should stop supporting a social liberal on this social conservative forum and pick a real winner, rather than a ridiculous loser liberal like rudy.

The 2 polls on Free Republic put forth an obvious SOCON (only Hunter fits that description given) versus a SOLIB (it certainly fits rudy).
http://www.freerepublic.com/perl/poll?poll=171
http://www.freerepublic.com/perl/poll?poll=172

Rudy splits the base.

I have noticed time and again that rudy supporters rudely send up the false dilemma of “who would you vote for, Hildebeast or Rudy”. This particularly impolite at this early of a point in the primary cycle. Since this is a socon forum (not even a GOP forum), it is very impolite to ask double-bind questions, especially this early in the race.

Since team rudy is so fond of its own false dilemma, I would expect them to answer this false dilemma.

My contention: If rudy gets the nomination, he splits the base, possibly splits the republican party, and loses the election.

Rudy followers’ contention: If Hunter gets it, he wins the base and loses the election.

Hypothetical to answer the rudy followers’ hypothetical. Both sides losing to Hillary.
Side A: The solib republican splits the base. The MSM turns on him the moment he is nominated. Hillary wins. Republican party is split.
Side B: The socon republican wins the nomination, loses to hildebeast in a tough fight. Republicans are united against the hillary presidency.

Which candidate is best for the republican party, Side A or Side B?

Win-Win false dilemma:
Side A: Solib wins presidency by ignoring the socon base and permanently splitting the republican party.
Side B: SoCon wins presidency by (obviously) relying on the socon base.

Which candidate is best for the republican party, Side A or Side B?

Regardless of who wins or loses, Free Republic and the republican party is better off with Duncan Hunter than Rudy as the candidate. This social liberal candidate is simply not healthy for the republican party nor for FR. And rudy followers are proving to be very impolite freepers.

No pro-life President has been able to change a single thing.

I guess you missed the news last week that the Supreme Court UPHELD the PBA ban?

One thing is certain, without a pro-life president, it will get worse. As it stands now, I think we are one case away from overturning Roe v. Wade (I firmly believe that if the "right" case comes before the Court, Kennedy will vote with Scalia, Thomas, Roberts and Alito, just like he did last week), for certain we are only one justice away. Rudy will destroy that forever.

Oh, yeah, the other thing I hated about voting for Arnold - my vote then got co-opted by him in his turn left as being support for his leftward policies, and not in it's intent as a desire to keep the crazies out.

If a vote for a rino gets used to help push leftwards policies, at least a 3rd party rebellious spit lets the GOP know in no uncertain terms that they screwed up, and might force them to corrective action in the next cycle.

Of course, you are right, you have to weigh that against the damage done by the crazies getting in for a cycle... and there's no guarantee that the GOP would catch a clue....

I expect when Fred announces, the money will be there. In no way am I implying a national campaign for the nomination of the GOP and subsequent general election can be won without raising and spending great sums of money.

It’s just my hunch that Fred will raise it and spend it in some unorthodox ways.
