It does no good to identify a journalist as “Asian”, as it unfairly portrays an entire ethnicity as being duplicititous, unethical, bigoted, race concious hacks, who could not earn a real degree.

No, the PC police have made an industry at raising race and ethnicity over national origin. Thus the abbreviated citizens (African-American, Japanese-American, etc.)

It is the PC police who insist that we call out every identifier that describes a person as other than white, Christian, American, male.

But, true to their PC BS hypocrisy, they only want such identifiers mentioned when discussing something good about the person.

When a member of a PC group does something bad, suddenly we’re supposed to genericize him/her with some non-identifying label.

They’ll simply prefer to refer to him as a “male” since that is one of their target groups.

Generally speaking, I think that when police are looking for a suspect or they haven’t IDed the guy, any description, including race and ethnicity, is fair game. And when they ID him finally, noting where he’s from is fine, especially if not native-born. But I see no reason to continue to ID him as Asian, just as there’s no reason to continue describing anybody as caucasian or black.

It interesting that you mention it (them), because it is the very reason I remember the lesson to this day. The teacher gave us (his class) a fact-pattern, and told us to write a hypothetical newspaper column about it. One of the characters was black, the other white. The rest of the "facts" were completely innocuous.

Everyone in the class included the race of the black character in their report, and no one identified the other character as white. He used the result (which he admitted was a "trick") as a springboard into a discussion of what constitutes a "relevant fact," and what is just "fluff."
