Will FR embrace socialism to make way for Rudy Giuliani as a Republican presidential candidate?
vanity | April 21, 2007 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 04/21/2007 6:42:25 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

We've got some real challenges facing us. FR was established to fight against government corruption, overstepping, and abuse and to fight for a return to the limited constitutional government as envisioned and set forth by our founding fathers in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and other founding documents.

One of the biggest cases of government corruption, overstepping and abuse that I know of is its disgraceful headlong slide into a socialist hell. Our founders never intended for abortion to be the law of the land. And they never intended the Supreme Court to be a legislative body. They never intended God or religion to be written out of public life. They never intended government to be used to deny God's existence or for government to be used to force sexual perversions onto our society or into our children's education curriculum. They never intend for government to disarm the people. They never intended for government to set up sanctuary cities for illegals. They never intended government to “rule” over the people and or to take their earnings or private property or to deprive them of their constitutional rights to free speech, free religion, private property, due process, etc. They never intended government to seize the private property of private citizens through draconian asset forfeiture laws or laws allowing government to take private property from lawful owners to give to developers. Or to seize wealth and redistribute it to others. Or to provide government forced health insurance or government forced retirement systems.

All of the above are examples of ever expanding socialism and tyranny brought to us by liberals/liberalism.

FR fights against the liberals/Democrats in all of these areas and always will. Now if liberalism infiltrates into the Republican party and Republicans start promoting all this socialist garbage, do you think that I or FR will suddenly stop fighting against it? Do you think I'm going to bow down and accept abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, global warming, illegal alien lawbreakers, gun control, asset forfeiture, socialism, tyranny, totalitarianism, etc, etc, etc, just so some fancy New York liberal lawyer can become president from the Republican party?

Do you really expect me to do that?

Well, just about anyone, since practically nobody knows what he looks like. Heh...

It's comments such as that I believe is what the owner of this site was talking about when he said liberal rudy supporters tear down conservative candidates. You've proven his point.

LOL, I would give that an emphatic NO. My time here tells me you'd wrap it up and flush it before you permitted FR to "embrace socialism".

But, hey, we're both getting older. Maybe you've mellowed. :-)

This thread perfectly illustrates THE problem within the republican party.

The only potential candidate I fully agree with (myself) isn't running!

In this election I will do as I always have done. I will work as hard as I possibly can to get a CONSERVATIVE the nomination but when the primaries are done and there is only the general election left I will support the nominee of the republican party even if that, God forbid it, turns out to be Rudy.

Jim,

Your opinions have a profound impact with me and bear weight on how I perceive the political landscape.

I do see differences between the Democrats and Republicans on some social issues. On the economic and legislative side, I see socialists battling communists. It’s not what comes from the mouths of those elected that have given me this view. It’s the collective works they have produced.

We have talked, you and I. You know how I feel about the Taft Supreme Court ruling that extended the limitations of the First Amendments onto the states and therefore local communities. It was this singular ruling that opened the floodgate to all other rulings that denied the states the right to govern such matters as religion, speech, press, and assembly.

We are far separated from the time of that ruling, yet we have the benefit of being able to look back over the decades since and weigh the impact. It has not been good. It has essentially moved control of government further away from the control of citizens at the state and local level to a centralized government.

You questioned me once if the Incorporation Doctrine of the Taft Supreme Court were set aide if I would accept Utah making the Church of Mormon the official state religion as it once was. I replied yes, because it would be a decision reached by the citizens of Utah. Their decision would not be binding on any other state.

On the economic and legislative front, both the Democratic and Republican Parties deeply trouble me. I see not an iota of difference between one party that taxes heavily and the other that forestalls the heavy taxation by way of deficit spending. Ultimately the citizens will pay.

There is no viable Third Party. I wont even go there.

I’ve been taking another look at The Constitution of the United States of America lately. I’ve asked myself what it is to be conservative in light of this document. My opinion is the document is a compromise document containing both conservative and liberal elements. If true, most conservatives today seek to conserve the conservative and liberal elements of the document, not simply conservative perspectives from a political science perspective. I am saying there are Constitutional conservative and political conservatives, and often they are not one and the same. That’s just my observation and it is open to debate.

I believe you are at a crossroad Jim where you may set a new clearer path for Free Republic. Know that I’ll respect your decisions and that I will always be counted among your friends. May God guide you.

Chuck

Part of the communist idea to infiltrate America was to get control of one or both parties. They have one of them, and I guess people like us want to keep them from getting both.

That is the nitty-gritty. Amen!

Oh please. A gentle joke about a candidate who is not known to the general public and not even included in most polls. Is all humor to be banned here?

There are still large swathes of the country where that’s not aberrant behavior. There are very few places where beating off in a public place isn’t aberrant behavior.

Whenever I hear that..."it hasn't worked"...I have to wonder what that means. Do it mean it hasn't "finished off the First Amendment" sufficiently? /s

Have you found anything of Thompson's position on the issues or his conservatism in general, that would lead you to think he's being disingenuous?

Look, conservative majorities are dead unless social conservatives don’t ask fiscal conservatives to support socially conservative fiscal liberals and vice versa. Thta’s the lesson that will be learned the easy way or the hard way. Either way, I won’t be voting for social liberals or fiscal liberals. That you can take to the bank.
