Will FR embrace socialism to make way for Rudy Giuliani as a Republican presidential candidate?
vanity | April 21, 2007 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 04/21/2007 6:42:25 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

We've got some real challenges facing us. FR was established to fight against government corruption, overstepping, and abuse and to fight for a return to the limited constitutional government as envisioned and set forth by our founding fathers in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and other founding documents.

One of the biggest cases of government corruption, overstepping and abuse that I know of is its disgraceful headlong slide into a socialist hell. Our founders never intended for abortion to be the law of the land. And they never intended the Supreme Court to be a legislative body. They never intended God or religion to be written out of public life. They never intended government to be used to deny God's existence or for government to be used to force sexual perversions onto our society or into our children's education curriculum. They never intend for government to disarm the people. They never intended for government to set up sanctuary cities for illegals. They never intended government to “rule” over the people and or to take their earnings or private property or to deprive them of their constitutional rights to free speech, free religion, private property, due process, etc. They never intended government to seize the private property of private citizens through draconian asset forfeiture laws or laws allowing government to take private property from lawful owners to give to developers. Or to seize wealth and redistribute it to others. Or to provide government forced health insurance or government forced retirement systems.

All of the above are examples of ever expanding socialism and tyranny brought to us by liberals/liberalism.

FR fights against the liberals/Democrats in all of these areas and always will. Now if liberalism infiltrates into the Republican party and Republicans start promoting all this socialist garbage, do you think that I or FR will suddenly stop fighting against it? Do you think I'm going to bow down and accept abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, global warming, illegal alien lawbreakers, gun control, asset forfeiture, socialism, tyranny, totalitarianism, etc, etc, etc, just so some fancy New York liberal lawyer can become president from the Republican party?

Do you really expect me to do that?

That means you voted a straight republican ticket, doesn’t it?

I guess that would depend on how Duncan Hunteris running. It may be a case where Duncan could do something similar to what Lieberman did....run as an independant who would caucus with his former party on most things.

To be honest, I have yet to vote a straight ticket in a general election. I don't vote party, I vote candidate. Now to be sure, most are Republicans, but an (R) does not gaurantee my vote unconditionally.

I will offer two examples for context. (1) Orin Hatch, he lost my favor when he said he would support changing the Constitution so a naturalized citizen can be elected President. (2) Arlen Specter would never gain my vote either because he sees the judiciary as above (read: more authority) the other two branches of Federal government.

Some would refer to these as petty issues. Some would say I hurt the party by discounting them for such things. I counter with the fact that it is their own positions that do the hurting. In my eyes, the Constitution matters and flouting it's meaning willy nilly, as these two examples do, means I won't support them with my vote.

In a nutshell, the Constitution means more to me than a party in power. You know, the opposite of today's Democratic leadership.

If not for Free Republic, I would have blindly supported Rudy Giuliani. Now I forward a lot of the stuff that gets posted here to family and friends - a lot of them are unaware of Giuliani’s abortion position. I think once some advertisments hit the tv airwaves, he will face some serious backlash.

The stuff here has turned a lot of people from supporting Rudy Giuliani. Like a stone thrown in a pond, the ripple effect will continue to spread. And as we take on a new mission of putting it all together and presenting it in a manner intended to "swift boat" Giuliani's primary campaign, that effect will grow even larger and spread far wider.

People are not being banned for being pro-Rudy. Fierce Allegiance wasn’t pro-rudy.

People are being banned for things they say. Many for being hateful to Jim, or using foul language about other freepers who support conservatives. Some for lying about conservatives, or posting repeated articles attacking conservatives from liberal media and blogs.

Rudy supporters who haven’t gone out of their way to antagonize the conservatives for which this site exists are still here (except those who said they were going away on their own free will).

The speculation (and it’s speculation) is that stuned beeber was a retread previously-banned poster.

Yea, your idea of a fight is backing an unknown milquetoast Congressman. ...

Hildy, please don't fall into the resentment trap. These pukes want you so alienated you will not vote for their (supposed) candidate. It is not the their candidate being disgustingly ugly, it is them.

Let me share an anecdote about Peach, if I may....

A number of months back she and I had a conversation about the continued infiltration of FR by DU trolls that began as a campaign in the 90's by Hillary.

She told me about the book "Hillary's War," and proudly told me about JimRob's introduction to it, and the references to FR in the book.

I hadn't read it, so she sent it to me to read, and was clearly very proud to be a part of FR in those days, and still was very proud JimRob and FR.

That was just months ago.

And now, the owner of this forum, which she was so proud of and honored to be a part of, has banned her and called her 'an idiot'.....among other things. And she has been ridiculed and personally attacked on this thread by many because of the political candidate that she chose to support.

There are a lot of us who are wondering what's going on here, Jim. A lot who are afraid to post anything on this thread, and some of us who are either brave enough, or stupid enough to stick our necks out and try to figure out what's going on.

Peach was a fine freeper, and IS a top quality human being. She just chose to support the wrong guy, and not back down from it. That was her grave sin.

I'm just wondering aloud here if she is really the kind of person you want to permanently remove from Free Republic.........one who loves this country, and despises the Clintons. Because if she is, then many others, who know her mettle, will always wonder if they (we) will be next.

I want FR to be a beacon of truth and reason, and to have a strong voice in next year's election, but I am wondering what damage will be done to its credibility by what has happened here.

The concept is only clear if you buy into your line that he “can’t win”. You present an assumption as fact and that makes the base of your argument unstable.

Today is not voting day and no votes have been cast. No debates have even taken place. Therfor a claim that he “can’t win” is nothing more than blind speculation.
Your premise is like a house of cards sitting on a unbalanced washing machine about to start it’s spin cycle.

I resent the entire concept of being a voter for one particular issue.

The Rudy Rooters are text book "single issue" voters -- the ONLY thing they seem to care about is the war on terror. Now, this would be important if Rudy was the only GOP candidate supporting the war, but he isn't.

Of course that's part of it, rintense. They have blindly put us all in a little box.

IMO, many Bush haters are incapable of reason, and therefore they adopt a template just like the left does.

If the facts don't fit, they throw them out. You'd better believe that that's what's happened to me here.

You are technically correct, the President signs off on all appointments. But it doesn’t mean he chose him.

And frankly, even if he did, being chosen by Reagan to an AG job is not an endorsement by Reagan of anything other than your ability as a lawyer (or, as I believe, the opinion of the person who told Reagan to pick you about your ability).

We had this argument last year in Virginia with lefties who wanted to claim Ronald Reagan would endorse James Webb because Reagan said nice things about Webb when Reagan put him in as Secretary of the Navy. So we are very familiar with opponents misusing Reagan for their own nefarious purposes.

In that case, Nancy Reagan complained about Webb using Reagan in such a crass, political way. But Webb still ran a commercial with Reagan’s public speech about Webb back in the 80s.

I presume Rudy won’t be that opportunistic, and hope his supporters can stop misusing Reagan (who is dead and can’t defend himself) by pretending that Reagan would support Rudy in any manner.

My speculation is that he was just a jerk noob who was a little too gleeful about the bloodletting of long-time Freepers.

What do I need brownie points for? Am I not allowed to express my support for this website for what it provides without getting snide, sarcastic remarks?

people here were singing accolades to stuned beeber, newbie that he was, for his ongoing stirring of the pot.

With all the "what did poor stuned beeber do?" questions, I was beginning to think I was the only one who had seen any of his posts.

I'm not going to compromise. Neither should you or any other conservative.

If Rudy is the GOP candidate, I'm voting 3rd party. Maybe the GOP will return to its conservative roots after 4 years of Hillary. Rudy's election to POTUS as the GOP nominee would have farther-reaching, and much more severe consequences.
