When The Stiletto spotted this headline in The Billings (MT) Gazette, "Anchor Failure Blamed For Deaths," she thought, "Wow. Katie Courics dismal ratings must have finally pushed some executives at CBS News to hurl themselves off the roof of Black Rock.
Yes, it really is that bad and worse: A Gallup Poll finds that 29 percent of Americans "just dont like" Couric. Negative ratings for NBCs Brian Williams and ABCs Charles Gibson were significantly smaller (18 percent and 16 percent, respectively). Courics positive ratings (51 percent) also lag, as compared to Williams (59 percent) and Gibson (62 percent). The Associated Press notes that the statistical difference between the two men in popularity is within the polls 4-point margin of error and "mirrors the competition between the anchors in the television ratings."
NOTE: In case I did not put all the links in correctly, this is the second item in a feature called The Daily Blade, and follows an article titled, "Which 2008 Candidate Would You Vote Off The Island?"
Couric is the “Hillary Clinton” of network news.
Yeah, and now that she’s 50 (or is she older?) she’s also lost her “perkiness.”
Yep, she turned 50 on January 7th.
Yup, “America’s Sweetheart” is definitely not perky anymore.
Thank goodness she signed a multi-year, multi- million dallar contract before they even knoew if she would work out for this show!!
I preferred watching the video of her colonoscopy to looking her in the face.
bump
Yeah, where can I get a job like that? Even after you work your butt off and turn in a stellar performance (i.e., “have proven yourself”) you still get the same BS 3% raise as everyone else - if you or anyone even gets one.
HA!
The thing that gets me about all of this is that everybody and their brother knew that putting Little Miss Perky into the anchor seat of an evening newscast was a recipe for disaster in the long term.
Williams at least tries to give some semblance of objectivity, and Gibson and Schieffer have a certain gravitas. Couric has neither. She’s fine for one of those mind-numbing morning shows and would’ve been an immediate improvement over Les Moonves’s wife, but let’s face it, she’s not a news anchor.
Another little aside here, I have to laugh when people say this criticism is because she’s a woman. That’s not true at all. While I’ve never been a fan of the “news bunny” whose only redeeming quality is their looks, there are plenty of respectable female journalists out there. For instance, Elizabeth Vargas was probably one of the best anchors on network TV during her brief tenure, and people like Diane Sawyer, Lesley Stahl and Meredith Vieira despite their flaws would be at least modest improvements over Couric.
What is 29% of basically nobody?....I think she is watched by grannys and old folks who can’t react fast enough to get out of thier chair to change the channel...
I know. It’s not that she’s a woman at all. It’s that she’s an empty-headed, shallow woman. There’s a big difference.
So true, so true. And they’re deaf too so they can’t get mad at her and dislike her for what she says on the air.
ROTFL! Great comic.
