Who are you to judge? Who are you to say that the more than slightly creepy 39-year-old woman from Arkansas who just gave birth to her 16th child yes that's right 16 kids and try not to cringe in phantom vaginal pain when you say it, who are you to say Michelle Duggar is not more than a little unhinged and sad and lost?
And furthermore, who are you to suggest that her equally troubling husband -- whose name is, of course, Jim Bob and he's hankerin' to be a Republican senator and try not to wince in sociopolitical pain when you say that -- isn't more than a little numb to the real world, and that bringing 16 hungry mewling attention-deprived kids (and she wants more! Yay!) into this exhausted world zips right by "touching" and races right past "disturbing" and lurches its way, heaving and gasping and sweating from the karmic armpits, straight into "Oh my God, what the hell is wrong with you people?"
But that would be, you know, mean. Mean and callous to suggest that this might be the most disquieting photo you see all year, this bizarre Duggar family of 18 spotless white hyperreligious interchangeable people with alarmingly bad hair, the kids ranging in ages from 1 to 17, worse than those nuked Smurfs in that UNICEF commercial and worse than all the horrific rubble in Pakistan and worse than the cluster-bomb nightmare that is Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise having a child as they suck the skin from each other's Scientological faces and even worse than that huge 13-foot python which ate that six-foot alligator and then exploded.

Someone should tell they guy if God doesn't want someone to have 16 kids, they won't have 16 kids!
Michael Irvin of Dallas Cowboys fame has 18 brothers and sisters. I wonder if this guy would write so scathingly about his family.

I come from a family of ten children, I'd love to send Mr Mofford a picture of our family, which now numbers 51.
I have seen the various Duggar family specials on TLC. Personally, I don't think I would have 16 children, but they seem to be loved and care for and wanted. My pet peeve (and I don't mean to offend anyone) is those parents who gives made up spelled names to their kids to match initials. Poor Jinger (pronounced as Ginger.) Otherwise, to each their own.
And Mr Mofford needs to come to Utah and visit. We have lots and lots of families with many children. Mofford did make one astute observation however. The religous people are out-reproducing those oh-so-enlightened souls who believe in overpopulation, the environment, and are liberals. I think Mofford should also be notified that Michelle Dugar is expecting her 17th baby in July 2007.
Only in San Francisco would a man named Mark Morford cringe in phantom vaginal pain.
On another note, it’s really none of his business, though I’m sure in his city, 18 partners would be much more socially acceptable. (Sorry all, but the busybody brigade has driven me to irritation today).
Yep. Jim and Michelle were real estate agents when they were first married, and apparently made a killing selling land.
I think big families are great. I met one blended family where the father had 10 kids before his wife died of cancer and he married a woman with 10 of her own. RATs hate these people, I think, because they hate, in general, the concepts of responsibility, faithfulness and dedication to family.
Two.
The SFGate is a homosexual newspaper
Homosexuals can’t have children.
Thus
The SFGate has to justify thier sour grapes for the deviant behavior which gives nothing to society...
My family is very small, and I would absolutely love to have a large family, not that large, but I really respect people who do. They are doing it on their own, and Americans are barely reproducing at replacement level, with Europeans below replacement level. We’ll need these children who will inevitably be productive citizens and further conservative families. One of the reasons this guy is ticked is because he knows that liberals are in homo relationships and aborting themselves into extinction. He knows that conservatives will one day outnumber the liberal population. That scares him.
Homosexual author who wants to create animostity to what they call “breeders” (aka NORMAL PEOPLE)
In SF they have had that many partners in an evening.
are all well fed
Very respectful
Homeschooled
Learn 2 instruments
Are responsible for themselves and each other.
Helped build the 7000 sq ft family home over 4 years (debt free)
Have good morals
Have good values.
This "author???" obviously didn't do any research on the family, because everything he said is an obvious fabrication. If he did do any research, then he's just an outright liar about this family. Doing an obvious hit piece on them because they don't embrace or emulate the values (or lack of) that he (someone writing for the SanFagsisco Chronicle) holds dearly (to his a$$)
I've watched a number of shows on Discovery Channel on this family. They are very inspiring.
I imagine that Jim Bob and Michelle get many letters from parents trying to arrange things between their kids, trying to set up their kids with the Duggar kids.
I bet the older kids, at least the oldest boy, get a lot of fan mail.
There are many parents of daughters praying for a man like this for their daughter.
Have you seen the tv show filmed by the oldest son? The family BUILT the huge house they live in, it was amazing. I am sure the writer of that article was disturbed most by how well they all seemed to get along..every kid seemed happy, healthy, smart. All the kids are in charge of duties around the house including teaching those younger than themselves. These people make everyone LOOK LIKE A SLACKER ..
Wives, I presume. But I guess this gal probably thinks Bach was weird, too, BTW, how many of his sons were composers?
what a jerk,he needs to go back & take writing courses,he writes like a hes in middle school.
i saw a special on the Duggars,it was very interesting.i admire them because they take care of their own & dont rely on state welfare,if they dont have the money to buy
something they wait until they can afford it (if you saw the show, you saw the pantry-these kids arent “hungry mewling attention-deprived kids”)
i bet this guy is on a waiting list for a sex change operation.
