"WHAT IS A MOONBAT?" the Student Journalist Asked: Wk 73- Olney,MD 5-19-7: Operation Infinite FReep
May 22,2007

Posted on 05/22/2007 5:30:21 PM PDT by trooprally

It was a very good and lazy, sunny spring day in Olney. Especially since only one moonbat showed up today. Also a good time to talk to a high school journalist for an article in her school newspaper. Last week she stopped by as we were breaking down and we did a brief taped interview. It appears she was asking questions from a list that the moonbats wrote for her. She was unsure of how to ask the question and also had to look over the paper to see what to ask.

FYI for FReepers from the area, she is from Sherwood HS.

Since we had to get going last week, I told her to come back this week. I also told her of FReeRepublic.com

Sure enough, as soon as we drove up, she was there. And she did look at our Olney AARs. She knew about our first several weeks where we mixed it up with the moonbats, before they retreated from the corner we currently occupy to their present corner. The first of many setbacks for the moonbat's "Cut & Run" mentality.

She interviewed our group for about 45 minutes and then went across the street to interview the lone moonbat that showed up. She soon came back with one more question, most likely from the lone moonbat - WHAT DOES THE WORD "MOONBAT" MEAN? I just chuckled to myself. Being called "moonbats" must be irritating to the moonbats, especially since they have no idea of its meaning.

BELOW LEFT: Last week, the moonbat writing questions for the high school reporter. BELOW RIGHT: This week, our high school student interviewing the lone moonbat before coming back to our side to ask the "MOONBAT" question

BELOW: HERE IT IS, "THE MOONBAT", especially for all those moonbats viewing this thread, and hopefully for our reporter, compliments of Sacredcowburgers.com

BELOW LEFT: Student interviewing GunsAreOK BELOW RIGHT: BELOW LEFT: Student interviewing CTS, with me and GunsAreOk talking, and L. Bill's daughter.

BELOW: Student interviewing John, a local who has been watching us for several weeks and finally stopped by. He has been to Iraq (he is not in the military) and talked to the student for about 15 minutes.

The school newsparer will be out in early June. She has promised to bring us some copies. We'll let you know when we get it.

In case you are wondering why the local paper, The Olney Gazette, has not done an article about our Support the Troops Rally verses their protest, it is because in September, 2005, I berated them for their biased reporting.

In late August, 2005, before we knew about FReeRepublic, there was an article about an antiwar protest planned for three consecutive Wednesday evenings in September. When I tried to have the Gazette give our planned Rally some space, they declined. But they did write an article about both sides. It was slanted (60%) towards the moonbats, but was fairly good overall. They got my quotes correct.

After that, the Gazette email me and said that they will NOT be covering any further rallies/protest. Something about it being national news and they are a local paper. That was fine with me. I would rather have no article written about either side, than a biased article about our troops and the success of their mission.

Our three simultaneous Rallies in 2005, opposite the moonbats, was attended by several locals and the local VFW and American Legion. While out numbered roughly 40 to 15, we showed the community that there is support for our troops. Legionaries Halsey, USMC - Korea, Frank, Army - Korea, and Glenn, USMC - Iwo Jima, still attend the Olney FReep on a regular bases.

FReepers and Lurkers in attendance today were Cindy_True_Supporter, (CTS), GunsAreOK, Lurker Bill and his daughter, (aka Lurker Bill from MD on Walter Reed AARs), the better half of the 'Trooprally' screen name, ([Mrs] T), myself ([Mr] T).

BELOW LEFT: Lurker Bill and daughter putting together a banner. BELOW RIGHT: With the banner up, Lurker Bill and daughter ready to FReep.

BELOW LEFT: Me, a Vietnam Vet who has briefly stopped by before, and GunsAreOk. BELOW RIGHT: CTS, with me in back ground.

BELOW: Some of [Mrs] T's pics of passing cars.

Lone moonbat lost among the school sign and banners.

REMEMBER
Next Saturday, same place, Georgia Avenue, MD Rte. 97 and MD Rte. 108 in Olney
NEW TIME - 10:15 AM to 11:45 AM

As always, the D.C. Chapter's rules for protesting will be in effect. Briefly, they are: No violence, no profanity, no racism, no provocations, obey the law and treat all law enforcement officers with respect. But VERBAL ENGAGEMENT is okay.

Moonbat started with the great science fiction writer Robert Heinlein. It was a term Heinlein used in his book Space Jockey to refer to the third stage of a rocket bound for the Moon. You can also find other familiar terms such as: Moonbeam (as in Gov Jerry Brown) and Space Cadet at the Heinlein Society website.

It would seem that Moonbat, Moonbeam, Space Cadet, etc. are terms that have become popularized by Heinlein fans.

I'm not a Heinlein expert. Just a summary of stuff I found on the internet. Maybe a big Heinlein fan will happen by and shed more light on this particular subject.

Awesome

I wished I could be there again. I was back in DC two weeks after the 17th. We burried a Soldier at Arlington. So, I can not afford to miss anymore work right now.

Thansk for being there for me though. Keep up the great work

Here's a prime choice moonbat at a pro-choice rally, making a whole lot of sense:

How do you know that is not a woman?

If that is a woman, she needs to get her priorities straight and worry about getting a date with a potential impregnator before worrying about getting an abortion.

The earliest references to "moonbat" in the political meaning, were either Jonah Goldberg, or a blogger, in having word play on the leftist British writer, George Monbiot.

Now I can reference Heinlein.

What is a moonbat? Someone who thinks that Humanitarian War (Kosovo) is great, but that Preemptive War (Iraq) is horrible.

Good thought.

We can’t have humanity as we want it without some battles, preemptive or not.
