President Bush has not been hindered by heavy criticism of an immigration bill that would legalize millions of unlawful immigrants. Instead, he pressed harder for its support on Friday ahead of his departure for the Group of Eight summit on industrialized nations next week. Conservatives and liberals, activists and analysts have all had their say on what is wrong with the comprehensive immigration bill before the Senate. Yet Bush remains steadfast in his conviction that despite its weaknesses the bill is still worth passing.
No matter how difficult it may seem for some politically, I strongly believe its in this nations interest for people here in Washington to show courage and resolve and pass a comprehensive immigration reform, Bush said on Friday, according to The Associated Press.
This bill isnt amnesty, countered Bush. For those who call it amnesty, theyre just trying to, in my judgment, frighten people about the bill. This bill is one that says we recognize that youre here illegally and theres a consequence for it.
No one will get everything they want, but everyone will get something, and in the end, what we come up with is better for the country, and we all have to see it that way, said Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez, who helped with the agreement, on Friday, according to AP.
"We propose that Congress pass comprehensive immigration reform that reflects the American commitment to the three formative pillars of our nation: the rule of law, our faith value system and the pursuit of the American Dream," (Rev. Samuel) Rodriguez (president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference) had said at the launch of the Christians for Comprehensive Immigration Reform campaign earlier in May. His organization, which serves 10,700 Hispanic evangelical churches with 15 million members, is America's largest Hispanic Evangelical organization.

We need to start asking the pro-amnesty pols this question--
"Mr. Snow, has the big Bush family every hired illegal immigrants to work for them?"
"Senator McCain, have you or your family every hired illegal immigrants to work for you?" (Wow, he'd blow a gasket!! But he has a palace in Arizona, he married big AZ money--I'll bet he expects to be cleaned up after and waited on by humble and underpaid servants...)
This is a very hard question to put to anyone who has grown up in the SW. It'd be rather difficult to answer in the negative--because then the digging would start. "I don't know" would be the safest answer, but it's still a bad answer. Of course, they could always admit to it.
Bush hinted that he's about to "take his gloves off" and start playing the race card, which he somehow thinks is unanswerable.
This question, or a threat of having to answer it, is OUR card.
Somebody has to be found to start asking this question.
Got asbestos?
"We propose that Congress pass comprehensive immigration reform that reflects the American commitment to the three formative pillars of our nation: the rule of law..."I'm having trouble getting from A to B.
There is one thing you can bank on. Jimmy Carter has never been right about anything. Ever.
A question for Constitutional Law experts: Is this an ex post facto law? I’m referring to the way it substitutes a $5,000 ‘fine’ for deportation for people who committed the crime before the law is enacted..
What I’m saying is that $5,000 ‘fine’ is what proponents are referring to when they say it isn’t amnesty. So, if that provision could be shot down, it would take away their argument that it isn’t amnesty.
To my way of thinking, because the illegals would have to pay the $5,000 as part of the process to obtain citizenship, the ‘fine’ is really a FEE, not a penalty.
Of course, either way, the bill is raising revenue and only the House can introduce revenue bills, so even if the Senate pulls the back taxes provision, the House could still blue slip it.
Well,I just got back from a breakfast with Senator Lamar Alexander and he got confronted by an angry voter over this immigration bill!!!It was not a pleasant sight.Lamar is up for re-election in 2008 and if he didn’t know how angry Tennesseans are about this,he does now.
Carter has done some serious damage and continues to try to cause this country even more, but after the time that has passed, we can, at least, judge the amount and kind he's responsible for. Clinton, we can't even guess how much damage and what kind, since the time interval is too short. If this open borders-illegal amnesty move of Bush's becomes law, he may singlehandedly finish us off before we even know how damaging Clinton was.
Me, too.
The answer to what? The one-worlders' prayers?
Clinton & Carter sold out our country both politically & militarily. But Clinton also egregiously debased our nation morally.
BTW, Bush is only guilty in one of these areas, so claims that he’s the worst President, ever, are way off base.
I guess we’ll see if others do as well. lol
I like your reply. However, it does not take into account the fact the population of the USofA is losing over a million potential citizens each year (abortion). The Democrap Party, the Feminazis, enviros, etc., have and are burning the barn. Can’t you smell the smoke? Bush has a plan that might work. With the distructive forces at work in the USofA, I see no better plan the Bush’s.
Carter hasn't singlehandedly surrendered our sovereignty and neither has Clinton. If Bush signs a Bill as bad or worse than the one making its way through the Senate, he will have accomplished the end of America, so my vote will go to him.
You, sir, are completely blind, not to mention deaf and DUMB.
Ya think? ;-)
I resigned from the Republican Party today. I told them why-Amnesty. Joined the “Declines To State Party.” I would urge all Republicans to do the same(Except the Kool Aid drinking Republicans, who are gone anyway). Such action may have sufficient shock value to jar the “Grand Old Party” back to reality.
Jorge Boosh wanted to fast-track this shamnesty bill years ago. The only thing that stopped it in its tracks then was 9-11. Now that this government is in “9-10” mode again, he is going to attempt to ramrod it through come hell or high water.
He is a pro-NAFTA, NWO fool who will sell this nation’s soverignty up the river!
