What has faith got to do with it? (Dems try to act sincere on religion)
The Washington Times ^ | June 8, 2007 | Cal Thomas

Posted on 06/08/2007 2:59:48 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

The top three Democratic presidential candidates participated in a forum Monday on the connection between their religious faith and political positions. The unusual gathering, broadcast live by CNN, was co-hosted by Sojourners, a Christian social justice network. The Rev. Jim Wallis, editor-in-chief of Sojourners magazine, and an organizer of the forum, has been telling Democrats not to cede religion to Republicans. He has spoken at several Democratic Party retreats, teaching Democrats how to speak about faith. Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York, John Edwards and Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois mentioned faith in a generic way, baptizing their liberal politics and suggesting God favors their positions more than those of the Republicans'. Republicans behave similarly, but they have been at it longer and perform better on the religious stage than Democrats. One shouldn't expect politicians to be theologians, but if they are going to talk about their faith publicly, more depth should be required. Mr. Obama said, "I am my brother's keeper." The reference is to Genesis 4:9. Cain has just murdered his brother, Abel, and God asks Cain, "Where is Abel your brother?" Cain responds with a lie: "I do not know; am I my brother's keeper?" Mr. Obama is applying that verse to government, which liberals often see as Godlike in its distribution of welfare payments and other goodies. Mrs. Clinton said her faith sustained her during Bill's extramarital affairs (a nod to the numerous biblical injunctions against adultery and infidelity). She also linked her faith to health care and in a twist on Psalm 139 and other verses that teach God knew us even while we were being formed in our mother's womb, repeated Bill's 1992 campaign pledge to make abortion "safe, legal and rare."

So the Dems AND CNN are no longer laughing at the religious voters, and are trying to suck up to those they've long considered lunatics and fools.

Remember, these are the same people who shun what's right, and who do not want to be held accountable for their actions. They want a purely securalist society, one in which when the country was form it's founders were TOTALLY against because they knew it could not work!

See, when you acknowledge a "Creator" in your founding and suddenly try to remove that "Creator" from the foundation, the building will crumble.

The only reason Democrats are interesting in faith is because it helps them to determine which oven to put you in.

We should encourage them to having a stronger faith in God. It is the tendency to trust in ourselves more than God that in the past causes us to build great towers, pyramids, roads etc as a testimony of our strength.

Today, those with little faith want to build great social programs that rely on our strength instead of God.

We should encourage these folks to truly discover that God is in control and that God will provide and that our efforts to “be our brothers keeper” will always fail because it is God who is our and our brothers keeper.

Some dems profess to have a religion. Some even profess to be Catholic. They use it to their advantage, but don’t let it interfere with their ultimate goal: turning the USA into a materialistic marxist paradise.

Speaking of Cal’s head, I hardly recognized him the other day.

He has dyed his hair and looks like maybe cosmetic surgery.

This was the first thing that alerted me to the evil of Bill Clinton. I listened to his acceptance speech at the 1992 Democratic Convention and he quoted scripture several times during the speech. What frightened me is that he twisted the meaning of the passages so that they conformed to the point he was trying to make. Many people with less knowledge of the Bible would not have noticed, but I remember thinking at the time that this was a very dangerous man because he had the audacity to remake the Word of God “in his own image”.

I did not put myself through the torture of watching the religious forum at which the Democratic candidates for POTUS had an opportunity to speak, but I heard some of the better audio clips on Rush the other day. IMO, you do not have to be afraid that someone who really knows the Bible and has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ will be fooled by these “wolves in sheep’s clothing”. Many of their words ring hollow and their depth of knowledge is very shallow. I do not mean to question whether they have a belief in God, but I do wonder how much time they actually devote to their relationship with Him.

She (Hillary) added, commendably, "The pro-life and pro-choice communities have not really been willing to find a common ground, and that is a great failing on all our parts." She offered to work with religious leaders to bring the two sides together.

There IS no "common ground" on abortion and embryonic stem cell research - one side is right and the other is wrong. This "bringing together of both sides" is empty rhetoric on her part.

think of religion, the Bible and the law.

This is a great point and one that democrats seem to forget. It reminds me of a comment Rush had on the radio the other day. I'm going by memory, but he reminded us that: "They [democrats] are courting you, but don't forget that any other time they would ridicule you."

This prevailing presumption that only liberals care about the poor is a blatant lie, one that's dangerous to leave unchallenged. Conservatives also care about the poor, enough to encourage their prosperity through solid educational opportunities through school vouchers, to discourage governmental handouts which tend to break apart families and to offer true prison reform through faith based initiatives. We also value every life, rich or poor, through our stances against abortion and euthanasia.

True Christianity is good for the poor. This politicized social gospel orchestrated to keep the poor poor has nothing to do with Christianity.
