One of Glenn’s main points about all of this - “The Perfect Day” - which about more than only attacks on schools - is that it is supposed to prompt the U.S. into all-out war against Islam, and that this would rally Islam as a whole (not just the jihadists) against us.

What I haven’t decided, so far, is if Glenn is right or wrong that we should guard against this reaction.

For my part - and most of us, I think - the natural reaction will be to turn sand into glass . . .

Calculate the response of it happening at the same time at 100’s of schools...up to 2,000,000 kids...I can’t imagine the response...

Today at her school, one of my daughter's teachers addressed this issue with the students. She told them they were to close the blinds, lock the door and pretend the room was empty. "It's statistically proven that terrorists will pass up a room with a locked door."

(I died a little when I heard this. These people have no imagination, no way of understanding what the enemy is capable of.)

I told her that if I ever see a news story about a terrorist attack on a school (any school in our country) I would text message her "GET OUT". At that point, she was to excuse herself and walk out of the building. We have a prearranged meeting point.

I'd rather her get shot in the back trying to escape than tortured and raped for three days before being executed.

(I can't believe that I'm actually thinking about the preferred way for my daughter to be slaughtered. What the hell have we come to?)

At the risk of sounding flippant, because I most assuredly am not being so, welcome to the world of "war thinking"... "War thinking" is thinking that which would be totally unthinkable, and grotesque in the extreme, in a time of peace. Alas, however, we are not *in* a time of peace, as you yourself have at least subconciously noted...

!

Question is, do we have the will to use our power?

Their was no “Day of Infamy” speech after 9/11. There was a “get on with your lives and go shopping speech”.

My pleasure, A-G .. I think that “Perfect Day” video is important for all of us to see ... these monsters aren’t going away.

“”... “War thinking” is thinking that which would be totally unthinkable, and grotesque in the extreme, in a time of peace. “

It’s past time the average American citizen became again schooled in the skills of war.

“...the great body of our citizens shoot less and less as time goes on. To meet this we should encourage rifle practice among schoolboys, and indeed among all classes, as well as in the military services, by every means in our power. Thus, and not otherwise, may we be able to assist in preserving the peace of the world. Fit to hold our own against the strong nations of the earth, our voice for peace will carry to the ends of the earth. Unprepared, and therefore unfit, we must sit dumb and helpless to defend ourselves, protect others, or preserve peace. The first step — in the direction to avert war if possible, and to be fit for war if it should come — is to teach our men to shoot.” - Teddy Roosevelt, in a message to Congress, 1908.

We did get Bush saying “We have heard them. Now they will hear from us” (paraphrased maybe) to the firefighters at the Trade Center. I think that will be what is remembered.

Small towns would be the most vulnurable. I live by an elementary and a high school nearby. Both are wide open no fencing. Parents line up morning and afternoon. It seems to me anyone could go in during that time without being stopped.

The larger city high schools are probably safer since they need to have more security to guard against their own students doing some kind of criminal activity.

My dad is 68 and offers his sniper services to the military every time he sees recruiters around. He can drop a groundhog at 504 yards. I’m not so bad myself...

“War thinking.” I think you just explained what the problem with half of America is today. They see that we’re at war in Iraq, but they absolutely do *not* understand that we’re at war here as well.

” I think that will be what is remembered.”

The “with us or with the terrorists” line will, unfortunately, be remembered as mere rhetoric of the moment that hasn’t gotten in the way of our government supporting the Saudis and funding terrorists groups like al Fatah.
