A HEARTLESS prank by two teenaged girls has devastated seven families who were made to believe their children had been seriously injured in car accidents.

The two teens allegedly called the families at random in the state's southwest, telling parents their children were fighting for their lives in hospital.

The two alleged pranksters, aged 18 and 16, reportedly posed as medical staff from local hospitals when they made the calls.

I raised 5 kids-——if one of mine had pulled a prank like this believe me it wouldn’t have been pretty.

Stupid kids. No cell phones for a few years.

First of all those two young girls should be given the maximum sentence for the crimes.

Then there is this little item :

Mrs St Baker said her daughter Tiana, 17, who had got her licence that day, was out with her brother Ethan, 15, when someone claiming to be a nurse from Griffith District Hospital telephoned about 10:30pm.

So can anyone explain to me why any parent would allow a teenager that had received their license that day would be allowed to be out driving at 10:20 PM.

The 18-year-old will face Griffith Local Court on October 10 while the 16-year-old will face charges under the Child Offenders Act. The maximum penalty is five years' jail.

...I hope around the third night of crying in their cell they get to actually think about their joke

So she would stop whining and interrupting her soap opera.

The media could help by not referring to this sort of thing as a “prank”. Short-sheeting someone’s bed at summer camp is a “prank”. Deliberately trying to convince someone that their child has been grievously injured and may die is nothing of the sort.

The girls should get a free trip to Singapore and a free flogging while there. A 10 year ban on cellphone usage would also be appropriate, and a couple of thousand hours of community service in the local hospital.

And what in the h*ll was so funny about this? What self-centered idiots. Ringing a doorbell and running away is a practical joke. Slipping a whoopee cushion under someone is a practical joke. Calling someone and telling her that her child is in critical condition due to a car crash is NOT. What if the parents who went to the hospital that night ended up in a wreck themselves because fear and grief distracted them from the road? What were those punks THINKING?

There is something really wrong with society when some kids think that this is funny.

The only possible good that I can see coming from this is that the "near tragedy" may bring some of the targeted families closer together.

Only five posts before we started blaming the victim this time. Quite an improvement.

I am not blaming the victim. I was simply questioning the logic of a parent that allowing a brand new(that day) driver to be out driving at 10:30 P.M.

She just got her license. Maybe they went to the store or something. What an awful thing for these girls to do.

I would and did. My son is very responsible and had proven to me that he knew the rules of the road and what to do if any passengers in the car got unruly (pull the car over and throw them out). He has a 4.0 and has never given me a moment's trouble. If he wanted to stay out until 10:20 pm on the day that he got his driver's license - so be it - he has earned it. Now, the idiots that pulled this stunt are not bad teenagers, they are criminals.

Does that imply that I am a new-fangled, negligent Mom?

Yes you are.

As a 17yr old I was routinely out past 10:30. I had a job. Maybe this girl and her brother did too? But that doesn’t occur to you.

But even so... That’s just not late for a 17yr old even just merely out for fun with friends, or in this case, a brother. That’s pretty common even just going to a movie.

Nope, we just have a difference in parenting styles.

The girl and her younger brother could have been at a Church function. Why are you assuming something negative?

Yes you are.

I really don't understand the logic of your post. I don't know about your 11 pm job or your brother or whatever. My son has proven himself responsible, he was home by 10:30 (just like these kids). He just wanted to experience the joy of driving a car without his mother in the passenger seat, as I had been for the last two years. I also taught him to drive a stick shift. If that is negligence, then you are a control freak.
