Excerpt from 2nd column: Are feds hiding crash imagery?

Posted: September 20, 2007
1:00 a.m. Eastern

Three weeks ago, I wrote about the FBI's unwitting revelation of a potential smoking gun in the TWA Flight 800 case.

I refer specifically to an amateur video shot five days before the plane's demise. The video captured an image, concedes the FBI, "consistent with the exhaust plume from a MANPAD [Man-portable air-defense] missile."

I argued that the suppression of this video for 11 years strengthens the case that other imagery – in particular an amateur video shot on the night of the crash, July 17, 1996 – might also have been suppressed.

This argument elicited some provocative responses from some very good sources. Let me cite a few. The first one comes from Atlanta, Ga.

If this info. was surpressed, then they must have gotten the perpetrator, likely the son of a rich oil sheik who was attending Yale or Harvard, out showing his friends how to use his toys at a Long Island beach party?

I’ve been flamed for saying this before, so here goes again...

TWA800 was BLOWN out of the sky that night. Our Government knows it, and many others, including myself, believe it to be true.

I don’t buy the crapcake explanation that it was a short on the wiring...blah, blah, blah.

Not many do. So, yeah, the feds have hidden the truth from us, imo. \hardhat on!

Kind of off topic, but ever wonder how often domestic airliners seem to crash less nowadays?

I was thinking about this the other day, we haven't heard of a domestic crash in some time...

After reading all the reports on this at the time and over the following years, it seems to me that the evidence was overwhelming that TWA 800 was brought down by a missile.

Several witnesses who had been airforce pilots testified that the explosion was the wrong color for a fuel explosion. And there were numerous other problems with the official explanation.

If it was a missile, then there were two possibilities raised at the time: terrorists in a small boat, or a stray missile from the US naval exercise in the area.

In my opinion, the second theory can be ruled out. If a missile went astray during the exercise, I doubt that it would be possible to keep it secret, since there would have been numerous witnesses on the ship in question, and keeping a secret among that many people just isn’t feasible.

That leaves the other alternative, and a plausible explanation for why it was hushed up: clinton didn’t want to have to do anything in response to a Muslim terrorist attack. So he ordered the FBI to cover it up.

Keeping that secret is far more plausible, because the clintonoids in the FBI who were responsible were at high levels and eminently blackmailable. An ordinary sailor wouldl have no strong reasons to keep the secret, but a high-level FBI agent implicated in clintonoid corruption certainly would.

If the fuel tank failed (and that is extremely unlikely, technically), then why wasn’t Boeing sued? The obvious answer is that Boeing refused to go along with a bogus story that discredited them until clinton agreed to hold them harmless.

We know for a fact that cameras and film were confiscated from many people on Long Island who took pictures of the explosion. I wish there were just ONE smart person who never mentioned they had such photos, someone who has kept them all this time to prove what really happened.

If such photos exist, the person(s) who has them should come forward.

I will always remember one of the side issues after the crash.

Clinton announced that he would be showing up at the airport to comfort the families of the dead.

Cardinal O Connor told him, if he showed up at the airport, he would leave.

Clinton backed down and did not show up.

Cardinal O Connor had to be dead for Clinton to show up at St Patricks.

When George Stephanopolis was already a network commentator after coming from the Clinton administration he was discussing the issue of terrorist acts. He rattled off a list of terrorist events which had occurred during the last 10 years. He included TWA 800. I did a double take, but nobody on the set challenged him or batted an eye.

I have always read the posts on this topic since I had taken flight TWA 800 in April of that year. I still have my seat assignment coupon on the wall of my office at work.

The NTSB witness group reviewed the summaries and determined that the documents contained 736 witness accounts.[6] Of these, the group determined that 670 witness reported seeing something that probably related to the accident, and 250 reported hearing something that was likely related to the accident.[6] 258 accounts were characterized as “streak-of-light” witnesses (”an object moving in the sky...variously described [as] a point of light, fireworks, a flare, a shooting star, or something similar.”)[6] Of these 258 witnesses, 38 reported that the streak was ascending vertically or nearly so, 18 indicated that it originated from the surface of the earth, and 7 reported that it originated at the horizon.[6]

599 witnesses reported a fireball; of these 264 reported seeing the fireball originate, 200 reported seeing the fireball split into two fireballs, and 217 reported observing the fireball hit the surface of the water, or disappear below the horizon.[6] 210 witnesses reported seeing both a fireball and a streak of light.[6]

We don’t keep secrets very well.

Something like this, impossible to keep secret.

So, 5 days before the airliner goes down, someone sees something that sorta looks like a SAM. So a SAM must've brought down the plane nearly a week later? Where is the logic in this reasoning? I'm sure in the week preceding the crash someone thinks they saw Elvis too. So does that mean it was obviously Elvis that shot it down?

A MANPAD (shoulder fired surface to air missile) has a solid propellant based rocket motor that fires for only 1 or 2 seconds. The remainder of the flight is then a coast starting at somewhat over Mach 1.

I keep hearing about a streak of flame approaching TWA-800. This is not commensurate with a MANPAD.

Also, such air defense systems would home in on the exhaust, resulting in an engine being hit and not the center of the plane. One such missile hitting a 747 engine might not be enough to bring the plane down.

TWA-800 was barely inside the range of such defense systems when the incident occurred.

I will listen to “conspiracy theories” if they seem to have merit.

In his book Cover Up: What the Government Is Still Hiding About the War on Terror, Peter Lance wrote that TWA 800 was blown up by a bomb intended to disrupt the trial of terrorist Ramzi Yousef, the nephew of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and planner of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Lance claimed that the FBI had prior knowledge of this plot from a prison informant, but did not act on it.[35]

While I was attending my va medical retirement classes in San Diego, there was a Navy diver who stated that he was there on the recovery site and there were SEALs there & they were moving the missile parts off into deeper water so no one could ever find them.

I did dismiss this as a “sea story” but it does make you wonder though.......
