So that works out to a little more than one case of beer a day in US terms. Pretty hard core.

(reporter) "Mr. Fields, what would your father say if he knew you drank a fifth of gin a day?!"

(Fields) "What would he say? Why he'd call me a sissy!"

"Pretty hard core."

Not for the house carpenters I had to work with when I roofed houses in the 70's.

Yes, they had beer for breakfast while waiting for the sun to some up on the job site.

Good stuff.

A friend of mine lived in St. Andrew's, Scotland for a few months and he says one of his most interesting memories from that time was going to the 8 a.m. Mass on Sundays and smelling the whisky on the breath of the old ladies who constituted about 90% of that Mass' congregation.

Another friend noted that a common pre-breakfast tipple in Normandy before one's cafe au lait and baguette is a quick shot of 80 proof calvados (known in the US as applejack).

I certainly hope he was drinking decent beer at the time. A nice Newkie Brown at least. One very troubling thing I noticed in my recent visits to the UK — Budweiser was considered good beer.

You guys don’t drink beer by the pint?

Never heard the saying - ‘mines a pint....’?

Oh man, certainly not. You must have been in a pub with a load of underaged drinkers.

If us Brits know one thing - it’s a good beer.

Now that his headache is gone, is he back at the pub?

My sister-in-law’s brother went on a drinking binge one weekend. He only consummed alcohol for three days.

He was found dead.

Later it was determined that he died of alcohol poisoning.

I’m sorry he died, but...

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Now that you mention it, a lot of the Bud afficionados were a bit on the green side. Lots of Burberry, gold and trainers, too, you catch my drift.

I miss my bitters over here -- that's one thing that's never caught on over here Stateside.

Twenty-four beers in a case,
twenty-four hours in a day.
Coincidence?
I think not!

Maybe by "lager louts."
