Probably a long shot, but perhaps he wasn’t used to drinking?

A better guess is that he was very used to drinking and his drinking was a major cause of the domestic crisis.

... Pretty hard core....

You obviously didn't grow up in a small town in the Midwest! Only a case a day?! Woos boy! The guys I partied with would have case races!

Delta House is making him an honorary member.

I think the term Chav applies nicely! (They said “Oi!” a lot...)

60 pints over four days is not enough to cause alcohol poisoning (it’s not much more than a drink every two hours), but drinking nothing but beer for four days pretty much guarantees dehydration.

It took more than six months of long-term blood-thinning treatment to restore the man's normal vision and to get rid of the headache, the doctors reported.

It's called a "hangover" and it would have gone away on it's own.

It’s definitely hard core but I have encountered more than a few people who put away 2-3 cases every weekend. Unlike this guy, though, for them the domestic crises do not precede the drinking, they follow it ;-)

Fifteen pints a day for four days straight? That’s a lot of God damned beer. Too bad they don’t disclose the man’s body weight. It would be interesting to know if he runs ten stone or thirty.

15 pints a day will not lead to alcohol poisoning in a healthy individual.

Agreed. You'll be drunk off your ass most of the day, but it won't cause any immediate health problems other than a wicked hangover when you finally quit.

If this guy had followed my rule, which is to drink a glass of water for every glass of alcoholic beverage, he'd have had no trouble.

...a quick shot of 80 proof calvados (known in the US as applejack).

Ach! That comparison makes me shudder. Is applejack a fine, aged apple brandy?

If I’m not mistaken applejack is what Americans call hard cider. The best description would be wine made from apples instead of grapes. Used to be very popular in Québec.

There are however a lot of these cases (I can recall several off the top of my head) where individuals have gone on ‘binges’ and have died as a result.

Too much alcohol in too little time - can kill.

He only consumed alcohol for three days.

That's no mean feat.

I think you meant "He consumed only alcohol for three days."

Good Calvados is actually pretty smooth and tastes much like Cognac. It doesn't have any tartness or other noticeable apple characteristics. The stuff is a favorite local specialty in Normandy. I've drunk it a few times and would do so again.

Yes, calvados is quite good. I’ve had it several times.

I have also had applejack (shudder).

There is something else wrong with him. Other than being a poser.

I've had binges that lasted longer and involved more potent booze.

Unless he's a pygmy there is another underlying cause that socialist medicine did not bother to find.

This guy can't handle a case per day? I can bet he never placed cement or framed a building! Hell, I'd wager everybody I pinged has done that without going to the hospital, well, except Grammy, who only drinks whiskey, and maybe Eaker following an unrelated deconstructive incident (and Mom and humble who had to drive). Well, and maybe Squantos and B4. Or Pete or Max. And tubebender only drinks wine, but I'm sure there's a grape story in here somewhere.

Actually, I did go to the hospital once after dropping a case of beer in bottles... and got three (count em) stitches in my pinky to stop the bleeding. No, it was a cute little spurting geyser. It just wouldn't stop. But anyhow, that's it. Only time.

It wouldn't stop. Really.

No, really.

A man stumped doctors when he walked into a hospital emergency room

After 60 pints:
1) he was still walking?
2) he knew where a hospital was?

Amazing
