Man's 60 pint drinking binge
A MAN stumped doctors when he walked into a hospital emergency room complaining of blurred vision and a constant headache.
The 37-year-old had swollen optical nerves and bleeding nerve fibres but doctors at the Southern General Hospital, Glasgow, could not tell what had caused it.
All became clear when the patient revealed he had consumed 60 pints in the last four days - prompted by 'a domestic crisis'.
His massive alcohol intake had caused severe dehydration which led to a rare condition called cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST).
A scan of his brain's blood vessels confirmed the diagnosis.
CVST - which can cause seizures, impaired consciousness, loss of vision and neurological damage - strikes three or four people per million, mainly children, every year in Britain. The cause is generally unknown.
It took more than six months of long-term blood-thinning treatment to restore the man's normal vision and to get rid of the headache, the doctors reported.

I guess one has to survive the more obvious symptoms of alcohol poisoning to develop CVST from the dehydrating effects?

Happens every time I have a “Domestic crisis.”
15 pints a day will not lead to alcohol poisoning in a healthy individual.

Now, that is a true professional! A knighthood is in order!
So that works out to a little more than one case of beer a day in US terms.
Pretty hard core.
I used to engage in similar behavior, but my binges were probably more appropriately characterized as having resulted from "import" crises.
Probably a long shot, but perhaps he wasn’t used to drinking?
