The Real Media Matters (Lies About Limbaugh)
The National Review ^ | October 4, 2007 | Byron York

Posted on 10/04/2007 10:43:36 AM PDT by khnyny

Editor’s note: The controversy over Rush Limbaugh’s “phony soldiers” remark has brought new prominence to Media Matters for America, the left-wing media watchdog founded by former right-wing media star David Brock. Media Matters is an avowedly political institution, part of a group of institutions the Center for American Progress, MoveOn.org, and others that have become increasingly important in Democratic politics. In 2004, Byron York revealed the origins of Media Matters and the big Democratic party donors who helped Brock bring it to life.

Susie Tompkins Buell was very, very impressed with David Brock. A California businesswoman who co-founded the fashion giant Esprit and went on to become a major donor to Democratic causes, Buell was in Washington last fall attending a meeting of friends and supporters of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton when she met Brock, the self-described former “right-wing hit man.” Buell listened as Brock, now a defector to “progressive” causes, presented plans for Media Matters for America, his new Internet-based project to monitor and criticize conservative media. In a short time, she was sold.

“It just made so much sense to me,” Buell recalls. “All this garbage that’s coming out of the Right is like the worst contamination of this country. . . . He brought so much understanding of what goes on over there. He’s very articulate, and very, very bright.”

This was a planned story to divert attention from Hillary Clinton’s connections with Hsu and other fund raising shenanigans, all of which were gaining momentum in the press just before this broke.

It was also timed to coincide with the release of her fund raising numbers for the quarter.

It was made to appear to by a diversion from the Moveon ad, but I think that is not the true motive.

The true motive is for the protection of the Hillary campaign. This keeps the eyes off Obama, also.

Folks, the problem with these people isn’t that they are feckless, cowards and liars.

The problem is this: MOST AMERICANS believe the crap they hear WITHOUT BOTHERING TO CHECK IT OUT. People who come here, and check other sites know the facts, or can easily learn them. MOST normal folks hear only the crap they are fed by the media and refuse to bother to check out the facts. So, the PROBLEM here is that Media Matters and MoveOn get AWAY with this stuff because only people who really CARE look up the facts. The rest of them ought not be allowed to vote.

You mean the truth that you feckless cowards choose to ignore? Wow, how delusional.

The loonie left succeeded in marginalizing the conservative/Christian voters with a massive all-assault against so-called MEGA-Churches, setting a pastor of a so-called MEGA-church with a sex sting--right before the 2006 election, and then via the MSM telling American the conservatives/Christians were going to steal that election...........then stealing that election from Americans right before out eyes, with a smirk, on election.

Think the left has a track record of success in going after Mr. Limbaugh...

donors to Media Matters include Peter Lewis, chairman of Progressive Corp., who has contributed more than $7 million to the 527s in partnership with his friend, the financier George Soros.

Anyone here have their automobile insurance with Progressive?

But the more Brock insists that he has lied, and lied, and then lied again, the more one begins to suspect Brock of being, well, a liar.

'Nuff said.

Hsu and other fund raising shenanigans

I don't think this bothers Hillary one bit. Why should it - no one is going to, or ever has, called her to account for fundraising fraud.

Very true. In their defense, I think most Americans are busy - busy working and trying to raise families, etc. They may watch the news or read a newspaper occasionally, and not have the time or the inclination to dig further.

John 18: 37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

Media Matters for America is yet another 501(c)(3) nonprofit "charity" that pays no taxes and simply should not exist unless David Brock wanted to go in to a business, collect money and then pay taxes for what they are doing.

This is another farce where someone forms a "nonprofit" entity to push their own political agendas and make some money. In 2005 according to their 990 media Matters For America took in $8,470,957. They paid out $1,379,765 in salary and wages. All exempt while Rush Limbaugh paid MILLIONS in taxes.

We need to reform these fake nonprofits in America. This is way past due! The idea was to allow poor groups to hekp poor people. How can it be that something like a soup kitchen, a REAL charity, who helps people can be the same exact kind of busness entity as Media Matters?

It's outragous when elected officials try to censor Rush Limbaugh. It's sickening that by allowing groups like Media Matters to exist as a "charity" as a taxpayer I'm basically paying part of their cost to do business. And because they can raise tax decuctible money as a charity they can afford to attack real businesses like EIB and Clear Channel.

There are about 1,500,000 so-called "charities" in America today. We are fools to allow some of these groups to have the same tax advantages as groups that help their fellow man.

I saw on another thread where “Media Matters” has been referred to the IRS for investigation.

Both Media Matters and MoveOn.org are Clinton organizations. MoveOn was designed during the days of Clinton’s impeachment (hence the name) in an effort to “move away” from his defilement of the Oval Office. Media Matters (and I think someone above me on this thread hit the nail on the head) is, I believe, designed to come up with stories whose primary purpose would be to remove Clinton wrongdoing from the forefront by manufacturing libel that the drive-by media picks up on because it ALWAYS involves conservative media organs. Certainly it was not Media Matters who broke the Dan Rather forged documents story, now, was it?

Media Matters should be sued by those individuals and entities which it has slandered and libeled. If the dinosaur media wants any of its credibility back (and good luck with that), they should slam Shrillery long and hard about Hsu and the Democrat Congress about their failure to obtain the facts of a story before slandering an private citizen on the floor of the Senate. Personally, I believe the odds are more likely there will be a Ferrari with a big red bow in my driveway when I arrive home tonight.
