At this point we dont know WHO the republican base will support. We know McCain is dead in the water as is Edwards. Hillary has NOT been really tested by conservative media, who will by the way not give Hillary a free pass. Also she is the most POLARIZING figure the Dems have at this point.
Also since the surge is working Iraq will probably not be the main issue. That cuts Hillary two ways: One- all the antiwar crowd wont forget her support of the war early in the game and will critize her triangulation on the issue. Two- the pro war faction will not support another vietnam defeat and retreat. I see this more like 1972 than 1968. The dems are setting themselves up for another McGovernization.
That leaves the economy and illegal immigration as the primary issue motivating voters. If the economy does not meltdown ( ie the media does not convienently create the perception of recession), the traditional message of class warfare and "worst economy since Hoover wont pass the smell test. The illegal issue also is a double edged sword that cuts both parties both ways. I dont think amnesty will help the Dems anymore than xenophobia will hurt the Reps.
Hillary will probably win the nomination with Obama as Veep against Rudy and Thompson. When you match those pairs up nationally ask yourself will the key voting bloc in America (white males) choose a female and an African American? This is not a racist question when you consider the track record of liberal northeastern candidates running for the White House. (The last liberal from the northeast elected to the WH was JFK and he would not be a liberal by todays standards)
Whomever the Reps nominate will face Hillary and whomever they pick as Veep. That alone will assure high turnout as they saw what happened in 2006 when you sit at home on election night. Remember, in historical terms their 06 victory was FAR smaller than what happened to Reagan, Nixon and other two term presidents in their 2nd term mid term elections. The other wild cards in this deck are guys like Rush Limbaugh and Karl Rove et al. Soros, Media Matters, Moveon.org and all the other lefties could not create a veto proof congressional majority and now they cant fly under the radar. The blogosphere and the pajamahadin more than counterweigh all the leftist 503 groups so my advise is check the fund raising after Super Tuesday. If the republican base is happy you will see a tidal wave of money like a tsunami that will mobilize their grassroots. Their grassroots WILL turn anytide the left can muster (the revolution wont be televised but will be on a web site near you).
Also we must consider the 4th branch of government the media. They are pronouncing victory for Hillary and I'm sure will give her checkered past history a pass. That will lead to overconfidence to the Dems and panic on the right. I doubt that the big three and the NY times will be able to sway opinion the dems way effectively as they have historically have done. FOXNews is killing CNN and Fox does not even have the same reach as CNN. It will make for a very interesting election.
The other wild cards will be how blacks perceive the treatment of Obama and on the other side the Christian Right on whomever the Reps nominate. If blacks think Obama did not get fair treatment (ie he is NOT the Veep or gets shafted in some smoke-filled backroom deal) there will be hell to pay on election day. Blacks see how the Dem party treats black candidates differently in single race or local elections than in national ones. They wont be happy with him just giving a keynote speech at the convention, giving Hillary a congratulatory handshake on the dais then happily marching off into the sunset. Note this... if Blacks dont show up at the polls in overwhelming numbers and cast overwhelming votes ( ie 90% of eligible black votes casting 90% for the donkey) its over but for the crying. We have already seen what happens when the CR stays home in 2006 (and 1992, 1996 also)
Most conservative don't have fond memories of the Clinton years and while many may be dissatisfied with W they would NEVER acquiesce with a 3rd Clinton term. Also this political environment is far more polarized and vitriolic than even 2000 and 2004. How will this play out? Simple, ask yourself have you seen any Million Men March against the war. If the war was such a hot button issue and if the dems claimed that they were going to end the war, how come they have not pulled the funding and ended it. The reality is that whoever gets elected in 2008 WILL NOT BRING THE TROOPS HOME anytime soon. Add to that a nuclear armed Iran making war noises and you will get the security moms voting conservative.
I know that the dems are hard campaigners and that Hillary has the tightest ship in the leftwing fleet, but that just means she is the front runner and could fall prey to hubris, a mis-step or even another bimbo eruption by her hubby. Don't think she has the female or even the Black vote locked up. We have seen how the DEMS eat their young during hard fought campaigns, after all Edwards, Richardson et al aren't folding up their tents and going home.
So ask me after Easter 2008 and I will have a better answer for you.
Be bold with her own comments in commercials about taxation and taking things from people.
Point out the danger of socialized Hillary Care.
Show she is not a feminist and in fact was an enabler for her husband who picked on other women.
She’s liberal, sleazy and very beatable.
Run Hillarious Run!
I have a one word answer for you right now:
Ohio.
As it goes, so goes the electoral college.
Hillary will not be elected President of the United States, ever. Not in a million years. When Americans walk into their polling places in November 2008 - - when it is time to cast their votes for real - - they will not be able to vote for Hillary Clinton.
I predict the biggest GOP Presidential landslide in history.
OHIO has always been the bellweather for Republicans
This one hasn’t even got that much in her favor - NOTHING in this one is above reproach.
Only with a stick.
quien ese chica que pinata... who is the chick thats a pinata LOL
There will NOT be a ticket with both a black AND a woman. I even agree with Bill Maher on that one one. He said it would be ‘too much too soon’ and laughed outright at whoever said it. He’s 100% right.
Hillary’s running mate will be Bill Richardson. That was decided a long time ago. Only a Clinton insider will be on a Clinton ticket. They don’t need Obama. Lastly, Thompson will be the nominee, because if liberal Rudy is, Hillary’s election is assured when the 3rd party Conservative candidate emerges. That is how it will be.
The Dems are slaughtering us on fundraising.
Hillary is a celebrity.
Americans want to change.
The Dems are going to have their candidate in place very early. The Republicans simply don't have the star quality the dems have, and we won't be united and enthused the way they are because they are so filled with hate over 2000 and 2004, and 2006 showed them they could win.
Americans don't believe the Republican talk about "fiscal responsibility" when they see them spending like any dem.
The media.
The desire to put a woman in the WH so we can seem non-sexist to the rest of the world.
Most important, people are sick of Bush, and want change. Electing someone from the same party isn't going to be that change.
People here often forget that the nuances don't much matter in the final election--it's about gut feeling.
Remember how we snickered when HRC did her hokey "listening tour"? Who'd fall for THAT? With all her negatives?
When we lost in '06, I was one arguing against those saying we needed to lose to recoup and come back.
I think that was wishful thinking on our part--that by '08 the RNC would see the light, start fighting against the libs, show Americans the Republicans are tax-cutters, budget-cutters, the Iraq situation will improve, etc.
So many haven't taken into account that the majority of Americans just want to put all of the 9/11 and Iraq stuff behind us--logic has little to do with it.
We have to fight back with all we've got, but I see nothing--nothing--that tells me she's going to lose.
BUT
Whatever group is running the present occupant in the White House wants her and that's all that matters. Again, I'm predicting Bush will do some more incredibly stupid thing to cause disgust amongst current loyal "R" voters.
I’m wondering how much of her having gotten so far is attributable to Bill. You know, the ‘life was so wonderful when Bill Clinton was president’ crowd. I’m going to go with Hillary being beatable, but not sure how much of that is wishful thinking. I’m certainly going to do all I can to make sure she’s turned away.
On other sites I’ve heard rumors that the Bush and Clinton dynasties have made some sort of secret deal starting with when GHWB was president that it would be Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton in the White House. I tend to think that’s tinfoil hat stuff, though.
wish I had your confidence in the American people to see through MSM and her corruption.
Even the rats are nervous about Hillary. That’s why you still hear rumblings about them trying to get Gore to jump into the race. I kid you not. The hysteria about “President Hillary” cracks me up. It will never happen.
Regards,
LH
P.S. No I don’t have a lot of confidence in the country’s chattering class, but this one will be such a rout it won’t matter.
Let’s face it. Hillary will be the next President of the United States. People want her in spite of the many criminal allegations; in spite of her questionable testimony when she said she did not recall; in spite of the missing records that somehow showed up in the White House; in spite of her hiring a disgraced burglar (or whatever his name is); in spite of her support of gay marriage; in spite of her support for abortion (murder of the unborn); in spite of ...
The questionable main stream media spins for her, asks her soft ball questions, and has ordained her as the next President. Her political machine is formidable. The Republicans remain clueless as they continue to treat the enemy within as their colleagues. Amazing to watch!

Amazing to watch it all unfold as our country disintegrates in terms of its culture, borders, and language! We are well on our way to being just another country among many ruled by the United Nations. Just wait to see your bill for past dues owed the UN under President Hillary.
