Thompson’s War Remarks Draw Fire
The New York Times / The NYT Caucus Political Blog ^ | 10/26/2007 | Marc Santora

Fred Thompson, already struggling to overcome perceptions of his lackluster start on the campaign trail and charges that he has not studied up on the issues of the day, is once again facing criticism for comments he made on Thursday about the war in Iraq.

At a campaign appearance in Bluffton, S.C., Mr. Thompson suggested that the enemy America faces in Iraq was little more than “a bunch of kids with improvised explosive devices,” according to CNN. (snip)

Senator Joseph Biden, a Democratic presidential candidate, was quick to condemn the remarks.

“If Senator Thompson believes that we are fighting ‘a bunch of kids,’ he is totally divorced from reality,” Mr. Biden said in a statement Thursday. “He should come back to Iraq with me and talk to our soldiers who are in the middle of a civil war between lethal militias or fighting the Bush-fulfilling prophecy of al Qaeda in Iraq or being blown up by I.E.D.’s.”

It is not the first time Mr. Thompson has drawn criticism for comments about Iraq.

Earlier this month in Iowa, Mr. Thompson told a crowd that Saddam Hussein “clearly had had WMD” and that “he clearly had had the beginnings of a nuclear program.”

Only when challenged on the comments did he try and clarify them by saying he was referring to Hussein’s use of chemical weapons in the 1980s.

Any article related to the New York Times is immediately suspect and Democrat-serving.

Fred's right on the money here. My cousin is now serving a 5th tour in Iraq. Most of the 'soldiers' he has seen killed or killed himself look to be early teens to early 20's.

One thing he did mention is the even younger ones used for observation and warnings.

NY Times I see......likely this is a partial quote and taken completely out of context, lets see the whole transcript of Fred’s remarks then decide. I don’t trust the NYT as far as I can throw them, expecially when they are commenting on a conservative and a threat to them like Fred is.

Go, Fred. I like anyone with the guts to belittle our enemies with a camera around.

In Fred’s defense, some of Hussein’s weapons during the first Iraq skirmish could be categorized as WMDs.

This is to offset Biden’s remarks (not quite so similarly covered by the NYT) about DC schools’ failing v. Iowa schools’ success being the result of the respective areas’ ethnic makeup.

Since the Dems think kids are 25 or younger, Fred is right, if this statement is true or even taken in context which is doubtful.

Of course were all Hillary's children.

Even people who don’t pay attention to the war that much has seen that the majority of the terrorists’ members are just kids who are willing to commit suicide for their ‘cause’—you never see the old guys strapping on belts full of explosives and walking into market places, do you? It’s always some young person—FRed is SPOT ON with his comments, and Smilin’ Joe’s attempt to twist his words around ain’t gonna fly with the majority of Americans. :-)

Love that FRed is getting more and more attention from the drive by media!! Now if we can get Duncan Hunter’s name out there too, we’ll have the best team for America in 2008!! :-)

Thompson/Hunter 2008!!

Hey, Biden, when are you going to get off the "civil war" mantra?

There is no civil war. If you don't believe me, believe your lying eyes and ears. Crickets in the MSM, CRICKETS!!

Senator Joseph Biden condemned Thompson for, in Biden’s words, “Comparing the fine Iraqi enemy soldiers to a bunch of ignorant African American kids in Washington D.C., it all depends on what you start with and there are no African Americans in Iraq, so naturally you see a high caliber of fighter there, more like you were recruiting from the white suburbs in Iowa”.

The Truth bothers the Leftists. They are a bunch of kids brainwashed into terrorists. Biden spoke the truth last week and was called a racist.

Pray for W and Our Troops

Of course the whole story is an excuse to repeat the opening lines, which are pure nonsense. And it's fairly unusual to build a republican primary story around critical quotes from a democrat, and especially to build one around Joseph Biden, who is not a factor in the race.

Most of our deaths are from IED's and most are planted by "kids". The criticism of Thompson here is a non-story designed to serve as a "basis" for the dismissive opening lines of the next non-story.

"Now if we can get Duncan Hunter’s name out there too, we’ll have the best team for America in 2008!!, Thompson/Hunter 2008!!"

But did you see this recent remark by Duncan Hunter about Senator Thompson?

Rep. Hunter explained , "I can tell you that my proposals to significantly increase and strengthen deportations, penalties, interior and border enforcement, and to curtail the incentives for illegal aliens generally had few vocal allies in the US Senate...Mr. Thompson certainly was not among them."

Hey Biden, since you think it's more than "kids with improvised weapons",.....

..... are you willing to admit that the advanced weapons the kids are using against us are from Iran and other despotic places and we are really in a war that is bigger than Iraq?
