NRA Aims mostly for money
Washington Post ^ | 30 October 07 | Jeffrey Birnbaum

Posted on 10/31/2007 4:54:17 AM PDT by RangerHAAF

In his new book, "Ricochet: Confessions of a Gun Lobbyist," Feldman accuses the powerful NRA of being in business primarily to raise money for itself and its executives, and of using self-defeating scare tactics to keep its coffers full.

Feldman was the man behind one of the few acts of compromise between gun lobbyists and gun-control supporters.

That's all I need to know about the author's views of the NRA. I don't pay the NRA to compromise with gun grabbers.

If a trigger lock compromise is this guy’s biggest accomplishment, he doesn’t have much to say to me. I think they’re a safety hazard. Nothing goes inside the trigger guard except my index finger, and it only when I’m ready to fire.

I see that the price of bird cage liners keeps rising - it costs more to pay so-called “journalists” to write crap like this in an environment where subscriptions are plummeting.

Of course, the Washington Post is in business to see that the American citizenry remains informed and has access to the Truth at all times...

I believe that the WP journalists actually donate their time to write for the Washington Post, and hold full time jobs elsewhere...

Well, the NRA won’t get a nickel from me until I make sure they won’t endorse anti-troop, anti-war, anti-USA John Murtha in ‘08 like they did in ‘06. And, if they do support Murtha, my membership expires in ‘09 and I won’t renew. Also, before anybody asks, his opponent in ‘06 was pro-gun Republican Diana Irey.

Typical divide and conquer MSM hit piece .
The article also mentions the NRA not getting along with “moderate” Dims and RINO’s ... It’s just another NRA hit piece designed at making the NRA look extreme .

On the flipside , there are some groups that say the NRA is too weak ...which is it ?

On the money issue , the NRA needs all the funding it can get , as it fights battles ranging from local municipalities all the way up to the U.N.

It takes a great amount of resources to fight on all these fronts , and it will only get worse .

How does Murtha vote on 2nd amendment issues??....because the NRA is not a political organisation per se as in the left, right thing....

They support and rate politicians on their second amendment stands period and will generally give their support based on actions not on the ideals of someone who ‘claims’ to be pro gun but has no track record.

You can support the NRA or not depending on your political beliefs on other things other than the 2nd Amendment, but that is not their stated goal, nor has it ever been.

I understand where you are coming from regarding Murtha . The NRA’s purpose is to elect as many pro-gun politicians as possible , from both parties .

Murtha has been a powerfully solid pro-gun stalwart over the years and it’s quite natural that the NRA would endorse him . Murtha’s other actions are horrible though .

Because of their stance on many things , including Murtha, the ONLY reason I pay the dues is that it is a requirement to have membership in the local shooting range . In New Jersey these are far and few between .

Same thing in my neck of the woods. They give "A"'s to some of the worst gungrabbers we have based on one token vote for a bill that eventually dies or becomes useless.

Try to even start a discussion about what it would take to repeal ANY Federal Gun Control-(19)68,86,33, 39 and you will find no support.

This article and book are nothing but counter-counter agitprop.

Best regards,

Did they actually endorse him or give him a report card.

It matters for organizations which are not allowed to endorse candidates.

A VERY sly attack on the NRA and some of its sausage-manufacturing techniques in DC.
As Bismark said, “don’t watch”.

How true this is. The NRA gave Bill Richardson(D-NM) and A-rating when running for Governor. Bill did sign CCW for the state and all the following modifications to the law, but now that he is running for POTUS, his views have changed, and for the worse.

Regardless of the stance, politically, of some of the candidates, the ratings are based solely on 2nd Amendment issues.

It will be interesting how the NRA grades the Repub candidates.

"Did they actually endorse him or give him a report card. "

They endorsed Murtha. His report card rating was the same as his opponents.
