Ramos, Compean feared for their lives

EDITOR'S NOTE: WND has obtained redacted copies of the appellate briefs filed in the case of convicted Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean.

The two men are in solitary confinement in federal prison, serving 11- and 12-year sentences respectively over a Feb. 17, 2005, incident in which they fired on Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila, an illegal Mexican alien who was fleeing back into Mexico after smuggling 750 pounds of marijuana over the Mexican border near Fabens, Texas.

In their appeal, Ramos was represented by attorney David L. Botsford. Compean was represented by attorneys Robert T. Basket and Edgar A. Mason.

The Ramos-Compean appeal is scheduled to be heard by the Fifth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in Louisiana next Monday.

WND was unable to obtain a copy of the government's brief filed in the appeal, and the briefs filed remain under seal, unavailable for public examination.

The copies of the appellate briefs examined by WND were redacted prior to being filed in the Fifth Circuit under seal. Removed were references to materials the District Court ordered sealed, which presumably included a second smuggling offense in October 2005 in which Aldrete-Davila brought another 750 pound load of marijuana across the border.

Aldrete-Davila evidently made the second smuggling attempt while he was under immunity from prosecutor U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton to testify in the Ramos-Compean trial. He apparently used a border-crossing pass issued by the Department of Homeland Security.

References to arguments in the Ramos-Compean brief are made without distinguishing which lawyer made the argument.

The appellate court is hearing the appeals together and will make a decision whether to reverse the convictions and demand a new trial.

This is the second of a three part WND series analyzing the appellate briefs filed in the case.

The prosecution of these two is a travesty. My “Free Ramos and Compean” homemade bumper sticker fell off. I have to make another.

Why hasn’t there been an organized effort to have these men freed? It is shameful. The idiots can get a concerted, “Free Mumia” effort together, but we can’t for these men?

We stopped SHAMnesty, we can get these men pardoned. They shouldn’t have to spend another Christmas away from their families. We have allowed illegal invaders to take over our country, yes we, and we should be ashamed. I will call, email and phone the WhiteHouse tomorrow. I will write a letter to the editor and encourage others to do the same. If enough of us do the same, we can effect a change. I feel like these men were used as pawns and treated unfairly for doing the job most Americans aren’t willing to do. That is, securing our borders and protecting our sovereignty. I feel this is the least I can do.....I wish I could do more.

Traitor Sutton should be in prison.

QUISLING: a synonym for traitor, someone who collaborates with the invaders of his country.

Poster WildcatClan is new to our ping list and has asked our attention to his post. Since we're all interested (indeed, invested) in immigration security, I believe his concern for action has merit. What can we do folks?...

Excuse me?.. Two American citizen Ramos and Compean are in prison and the US mis government case against them is under “seal, unavailable for public examination.

The bilge in this case soon will reach WACO proportions.

Something about this stinks and suggests that Ramos and Campeon are more political prisoners than they are regular prisoners.

The more we learn about this case, the smellier it gets.

The trial transcripts contradict this.

Compean had apprehended A-D and was holding him at gunpoint. If had been fearful he would not have tried to strike A-D with the gun butt, he would have put him on the ground for a search or waited for assistance from another agent.

What?

You have obviously never been a fight beyond the school yard. Never as adult for real, never alone where if you lose you die.

Tell some Illegal apprehended with narcotics to get on the ground and he knows by US LE doctrine you are not allowed to shoot him. He also knows he faces 10 years in prison at least.

He easily can bolt and show you his back secure you will not shoot him. Further running thru the back country you can chase him right into an ambush where you are the goat, you can break a leg fall in a ravine and never be found or get killed running off a cliff you don’t even see) He needs only to run out of your sight maybe go to ground and it’s for all practical intents and purposes over.

(You cannot call for a Thermal Imaging Helicopter for everyone you chase and they are not everywhere along 3000 miles of border)

A butt stroke will put him on the ground now, further, you do not have time to fool around with one person..Not when there could be 5 more in the woods or scrub around you. While you play by the Marquis of Qeensbury’s (lol) rules one or all of them may be preparing to murder you or in the process of murdering your buddy.. who cannot shout because 2
Smugglers are sitting on his chest while a third is kicking his head in.

So stop already.. Until you have been so scared the Black Dye from your gloves has leeched itself into your skin from sweating all night while people try to maneuver to hurt you.
don’t talk about it like it is cut and dried a “school solution”.

You wander around the forest, deserts and hills looking for Drug Smugglers and other desperadoes by yourself or in ones of twos..most days everything is ok some days everything goes to S*&.

Backed by a Justice Department that wants you in jail, the Drug Smugglers and illegals free to roam about to make the corporate contributors to the politicians that appoint them happy.

No thanks..

W

Free Compean and Ramos NOW!! (Oh and all the GI Political Prisoners as well)

Anytime there is significant and rapid expansion in a law enforcement group, there is always less training and fewer background checks, or a lowering of the standards. This always leads to more corruption.

When the BP moved to dismiss, or fire, the junior BP agents who were at the scene, those junior agent's defense was that they had to go along to get along. Or, that they had to participate in the cover-up to stay in the good graces of the senior agents, Ramos, Compean, and Vasquez.
