ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI-myFOXstl.com) -- Late Wednesday night, former New York governor and Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani went to Barnes-Jewish hospital after feeling ill.
Giuliani had traveled across Missouri Wednesday by car after mechanical problems on his aircraft left him without a plane for his stumping.
The statement from the Giuliani campaign reads:
"ST. LOUIS - Rudy Giuliani Communications Director Katie Levinson released the following statement this morning:
Earlier today, Mayor Giuliani experienced flu-like symptoms campaigning in Missouri. The symptoms worsened as the day wore on and shortly after taking off from Chesterfield, Missouri for New York the Mayor became uncomfortable enough that our plane returned to the airport in Chesterfield. To be on the safe side, the Mayor consulted with his personal physician in New York and made the decision to go to the Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis for routine tests.
"The Mayor will spend the night in St. Louis and we will provide another update in the morning."
That was well-written. Frankly, I think most of the candidates have looked tired lately. I’m not doing what they’re doing - and wouldn’t want to be.
In other words, a healthy beating. :)
I’d just wear a hazmat suit.
Like him or despise him, there is no reason not to offer prayers for a speedy recovery.
Nobody knows the severity of the symptoms, nor do we know what kind of bug Rudy might have picked up, and right now there is some nasty stuff out there that makes you feel like pure crud.
In the last 12 hours or so, I’ve seen Freepers offering up prayers for no less than Dennis Kucinich after his younger brother Perry died unexpectedly at age 52, politics notwithstanding.
We can at least put aside our rightful dislike for Rudy’s positions and conduct long enough to do the same for him.
And no, Rudy’s younger brother didn’t die (anticipating some wise guy cracking wise, lol).
Prayers up that the Mayor is back on the campaign trail soon and that this isn’t anything major.
Who knows, maybe it was worse than they say.

Influenza kills thousands every year in this country and around the world. I’m glad Mr. Giuliani decided to go to the hospital. There would probably be a few (thousand?) people still living today if they had gone to the hospital early when they first had flu symptoms. By the way, a lot of other illnesses can display “flu-like” symptoms. My bet is if the plane had to turn around whatever symptoms he was having were significant. And, as others have said, the former Mayor’s health history dictates caution even with seemingly “minor” illnesses.
God bless the Mayor. I won’t be voting for him but do not wish him harm. If I did, I should just go on over to DU and be done with it.
What if this had been Fred Thompson who also has a health history with similar implications? Would your reaction to similar news about him be the same as it has been toward the Mayor?
Prayers to you and for you Mr Giuliani.
Get Well Soon !
Hope he is back on the trail soon. You’d think all the candidates would be picking up diseases what with all the handshakes, hugs, airplane flights, ducking in and out of the cold, etc. that gets done during campaigning.
Rudy’s been rather quiet lately. I guess this explains why.

Bert Lahr! - EXIT MUCH FURTHER STAGE LEFT...
He's probably on his way right now in one of his private Grumman Gulfstream IIs!

If Rudy had to drop out of the race, which candidate or candidates would benefit?
Probably Romney or the Huckster.
you’ve got company...I love Rudy.
I understand all the policy reasons for opposing him, but one does have to admit: watching Rudy take on the media would be a blast!
Speedy recovery for Christmas, Mr. Mayor!
!!!!!!
Instant classic.
Texas Eagle,
Heh. Don’t let them get you down. I agree with every word you say.
In fact, my first thought was...how convenient...”some flu like symptoms and I get out of here and get home for Christmas early.”
But despite this forum abundance of wiseacres....if he really feels bad (and I think he probably does no mind the tongue in cheek), I wish him well.
I’m just sayin’ ...
